Furious - (vent sorry)

holley79 wrote: This afternoon I went for my follow up appointment from when I had flu last week, my gall bladder u/s and glucose testing. Everything is fine but I do have gall stones. I am so going to go get a second opinion on what to do about them though. This isn't the furious part. The Dr is looking at my chart. (Now mind you, this is the first time I have ever physically seen this woman.) She looks at me with this look and goes, "I see here you are still breastfeeding." I'm like yes. She asked me how old my child was. Proudly I told her 13.5 months. She goes on to tell me that nursing past a year is a comfort for the child and holding on for the mother. WTH!!!!!! I told her that I am childled weaning and that when my daughter is done then we will be done. She goes on to tell me there are stuff animals that my daughter can use for comfort instead of me. I can't believe a person of the medical profession would say all this. I proudly told her that my daughter made it till she was 11 months old without so much as a sniffle and that I'm a firm believer that BF was the best choice for my child. I then exited stage left. dry.gif

Thanks for letting me vent.

Insanemomof3 replied: I would have been soooooo angry!!! Good for you for standing up to her, and I think it is great that you have been nursing this long!!!! thumb.gif

amynicole21 replied: Aaaargh! growl.gif I can't believe that. mad.gif

luvmykids replied: growl.gif What an ignorant *&^#$. Glad you laid it out for her!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Oh wow!! How ignorant is she??? mad.gif mad.gif

BAC'sMom replied: ohmy.gif Unbelievable

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Good grief - what business is it of hers anyways?! dry.gif I would be finding a different doctor. dry.gif

Paprikash replied: I would tell her thanks, but I don't go to my daughter's pediatrician for advice about my gall bladder, and I won't be needing your advice about pediatrics.

hopefulmomtobe replied:

I love what you she said!!! And I say....Ditto to that!!!!...So cleaver!!!

Boo&BugsMom replied: I think she holds the right to have her opinion, but it is totally unprofessional of her to go and actually tell you her opinion without you asking her. The way she conducted herself was not very professional at all, especially when you weren't there for advice on breastfeeding. Having an opinion is one thing, but giving that opinion when it's unsolicited is totally another. I'd be peeved too.

3_call_me_mama replied: What an ignorant !@#$%^ and I'll leave it at that.. Apparently she doesn't research beyond her speciality, to see that breastmilk doesn't magically stop being beneficial nad healthy after that 12 month mark! Some people really shoudl think before they open their mouths! Sorry you had to deal with that Holley!

holley79 replied: I am getting a new Dr. I called my insurance company today to change Drs. If I had been asking her about BFing then I would have welcomed her opinion but to look at my chart and inquir about it is no concern of hers. The only reason it is in my charts is for medication purposes. I want to make sure they don't perscribe something that will effect BM. She's not very nice anyway so now worries.

CantWait replied: mad.gif

Good for you Holley. Unreal.

PrairieMom replied: Working in the medical field I see things every day that make me go blink.gif . (Not that BF a one year old would make me do that... ) my point is, you don't judge people for making the decisions they make, you just treat them for their problem. She was VERY unprofessional, and good for you for taking a stand and going else where for help. horray.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: blink.gif blink.gif OMG how could someone say something like that! #1 it's your body! #2 it's your decission and #3 it's none of her darn business how long your breastfeed! I'm appalled! You handled it so well, good for you! thumb.gif

blissfulecho replied: blink.gif WOW! I can't believe someone in the medical field, let alone a ped would discourage you from breastfeeding beyond a year! Especially since the World Health Organization suggests that mothers breastfeed for at least 2 years! Good for you for standing up for what you believe in and consequently, changing your care provider. hug.gif

Nina J replied: What an idiot. She should've been congratulating you. I'll do it for her, well done thumb.gif hug.gif You're doing awesome.

A&A'smommy replied: hug.gif hug.gif I'm sorry honey, she was NOT a very smart woman!!! Good for you for standing up for yourself and for Annika!!! thumb.gif
