Frustrated - Hanna's ear infections

My2Beauties wrote: My poor DD got another ear infection over the weekend, this makes #5 and she is only 7 1/2 months old! What to do? We had to take her to the ER Friday night and they put her on Omnicef. Over the weekend she got worse, started getting a runny nose and a cough. Her regular pediatrician wasn't in on Monday so DF had to take her to see another doctor in that practice (that I do not like very much by the way) who keeps saying she's wheezing (and she's not) and says she has croupe. I may not look like the smartest but she doesn't have croupe. She isn't hacking up her lungs and doesn't sound like a barking seal when she coughs, plus her cough isn't dry it's full of phlegm (I know TMI...sorry)!! So she put her on albuterol and over the counter Triaminic. Which is funny because when Hanna was about 3-4 months old I saw this same doctor who pretty much put her on the same thing, Albuterol and that time she said PediaCare and my poor daughter stayed sick for 3 more weeks, I took her back and she kept saying let them cold run it's course it will go away on it's own! Well finally I got to see her regular ped. and he said she had an infection, put her on zithromax and she was better the next day!! GO Figure! This time she has the same symptoms and that stupid woman is telling me she is wheezing and has Croupe. She doens't wheeze by any means, you can't hardly hear her breathing (even when she is congested) and she definitely doesn't sound like she has something as bad as croupe. I think this Dr. is nutso blink.gif and I am really frustrated with this whole thing.... mad.gif ! I'm thinking about switching pediatricians seriously! OK I'm so sorry I had to vent!

Question: Has anyone of you guys had a child that got recurring ear infections? Did they do tubes? I'm pretty much at my wits end and I am so tired of my poor baby getting these terrible ear infections, I feel so sorry for her because I know they hurt really bad! What to do??????

amynicole21 replied: Oh no!! Poor Hanna... I hope she's feeling better soon.

We just scheduled surgery to get tubes for Sophia. She had been on 9 different types of antibiotics since November... not good. sad.gif

You don't need a referral to see an ENT, I would just make an appointment there to talk to them. You don't want to have to get her tubes unless it's totally necessary, but there is always an ENT that will be willing to do the surgery (hey, it's money in their pocket, right rolleyes.gif ) Explore all of your options first... my suggestion is to find an Osteopathic doctor to see if some massage therapy will help her.

Good luck, and tons of sympathy coming your way grouphug.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: grouphug.gif Poor Hanna! I hope she feels better soon! We had to have a referal from our family doctor to see the ENT. You guys are lucky! We had to wait 3mths before we got in and the only reason we got in so soon, was because he had a cancelation. I think if she continues to have ear infections, it might be worth it to make an appointment just to rule anything out! Sending ~G~E~T~W~E~L~L~ Vibes your way! grouphug.gif

My2Beauties replied: I heard a lady say that they usually have to have 6 ear infections before they contemplate tubes...well this is her 5th! If she gets one more after this, or this one doesn't go away with antibiotics, I'm definitely going to an ENT! I don't have to have referrals with my insurance so I better take advantage of that huh?

Mom2Boyz replied: awww poor Hannah wub.gif I hope she is feeling better soon.

A&A'smommy replied: Poor baby! we haven't had any of those yet so I don't know what to tell you, as far as changing pediatricians I say go for it don't let him treat your sweet girl like that! sad.gif I hope that she is feeling better! (((((HUGS)))) for both of you!

MommyToAshley replied: Aweee, poor baby! I thinks some kids are just more prone to ear infections... I sure do hope she is feeling better soon. I don't have any advice, but wanted to offer hugs and some GET WELL, STAY WELL vibes!

CantWait replied: I'm so sorry she's got another infection. Robbie had a ton of them when he was little and I know how heartbreaking it is. Hope she's feeling better soon grouphug.gif

coasterqueen replied: grouphug.gif I hope Hannah feels better soon. grouphug.gif

My2Beauties replied: Thanks guys! She is feeling much better now...I think your GET WELL VIBES worked!! biggrin.gif She is in such a better mood and now she just has a little cough that sounds like it's starting to break up, no more ear infection neither...YEA! groupwave.gif

kimberley replied: wub.gif glad she is feeling better! thumb.gif
