Forgot to tell you all... - about Ethan's first day

He did SO incredibly well. We showed up about 10 a.m. (45 mins early) and just sat around and talked and let him play a bit in the floor. Then he wanted his banana so we went into the kitchen. He caught eye of the dog from the kitchen table and wanted nothing more to do with that banana. So, while he played with the dog (golden retriever behind a gate in the laundry room) I snuck out. I know a lot of people don't agree with the sneaking out thing, but it always works best for me.

Meanwhile I went to lunch with 10 wonderful, sweet ladies from Maddie's school. It was so nice to interact and talk with other moms. I signed up to volunteer at Maddie's school on Fridays (will get back to this)

I got back to Mary Eileen's house a couple of hours later and Ethan was just running around having a BLAST! He was laughing and cutting up. He had really taken over the place. Mary Eileen weighs about 80 pounds soaking wet. I bet she had quite a time with him. Her mother lives with them and they both just adore him. He is never alone for one second. I feel so lucky.

We worked out a schedule and a pay plan ($10/hr) just whenever I need her, but for certain every friday. I really think that is fair. I wouldn't sit for $5/hr I don't think and it isn't very often...just a couple of hours a week (if that).

He is her only and probably will be. It isn't like a home day care or anything. I was so relieved that he had fun. He was SO happy there. And she said he never noticed I was gone and didn't even look for me. That actually makes me feel so good.

Okay, more on the volunteering....Maddie has "centers" everyday at school and the teacher asks that a mom volunteers one day a week to help her out. They get to do fun stuff with the kids. Lots of cutting and pasting type stuff, etc. So, I volunteered for Fridays (now that Mary Eileen can watch Ethan). When I picked Maddie up from school on Monday I told her that I would be at her school on Friday helping with centers. She was SO excited!!! She said "My friends are going to LOVE you!! I"ve already told them all about you and they can't wait to meet you." I thought that was so sweet! Then I started to wonder if she would always love me this much and be happy to see me at school. Probably not. But, I can enjoy it while it lasts, right? I'm so glad I decided to go up there and volunteer. I never knew how important that was to her.

It will last quite a while longer. I imagine girls want their mom's involved a bit longer than boys. My son, of course, doesn't want me around anymore... but I am hoping for a few more years with DD.

That is what I was telling DH. I can remember being in high school and not caring that my mother was up there. She worked in the office and I'd go in with my friends and visit with her. Even in Jr high I was always happy to see her.

Kaitlin'smom replied: oh that is so wonderful. I also had to sneak out a few times with Kait when she was having issues with me leaving her, just made it eaiser for all of us.

I am so glad you can volinteer at her school I so hope I will be able to do it.

As for Maddie always wanting you at her school....lets just say Robbie is 10, and he still loves me to volunteer at his school and cadets, and he isn't embarrassed to give me a hug in public still either, you have lots of time till that happens yet.
