For those who send their kids lunches to school

coasterqueen wrote: I need your help! What kind of juice/drink bottle do you send your kids to school with for their lunches? We've tried just about every kind out there and they all freakin' leak after a handful of uses. It's driving me batty!!!!!!!!!!!!!! growl.gif It's happened 3 times now that Megan has come home with her lunch bag and I go to get it out of her bookbag and everything in her bookbag is soaked with milk or juice. growl.gif The teacher told me I have to start ziplocking all her drink cups because they keep leaking. That's a very huge problem for me because we are trying to limit our use of plastic bags AND she takes two drinks to school daily so that would be two ziplocs daily, every day. wacko.gif I know you can rewash them, but she has a habit of tearing them somehow, so I would have to use new ones every day. I wish I could just have her buy her drinks at school, but she can't have their milk due to her lactase deficiency and we will not let the girls have juice from school because even though it's "100% juice" it's full of sugars.

I'm frustrated and I need help. tongue.gif Pictures of what you use would be great, too, because a lot of them really don't have name brands. I've tried the metal kind from places like TRU and Target. I've tried plastic ones where you have to push a button to get the little hole to open up to drink from from Meijers. I tried one plastic brand from Target as well. I've tried so many and spent so much money on them it's unreal. wacko.gif

luvbug00 replied: I just send your average adult thermos. mya can drink more then anyone i know, we used to send her in with 2 capri sun packets and it broke my bank so we switched to a thermos. we honestly only use nalgene. My Opa (grandpa) was a engineer for them and so we trust them. Never had a problem with their stuff.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I suck it up and send them to school with juice boxes. dry.gif

Nalgenes are awesome, though. They're all the rage here. rolleyes.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Hmmmm, I may have to try these then. Thanks Naydia! I was paying $15 for some of the metal ones I got so those prices aren't bad at all. thumb.gif

Kylie would take juice boxes any day, but Megan isn't a juicebox fan. rolleyes.gif And Kylie drinks a lot, too, so I'd have to send her at least two of those as well, lol.
Megan likes koolaid powder mixed with Stevia so I send that, but even that she's picky on. Otherwise it's milk or water -- and she can't drink the schools milk and their water is nasty. tongue.gif

MommyToAshley replied: This is the one that Ashley uses. It is a bit expensive but she's had it for two years now so in the long run it is less expensive than replacing cheaper water bottles. She takes it to school and soccer. I only send her with water though, but it really keeps it cold and we've never had a problem with it leaking. Ashley likes it because it has a straw that pops up and you don't have to suck on it like the "baby cups" as she puts it. I like it because I don't have to worry about bpa and all the other chemicals leaching into the water like you do with plastic.

coasterqueen replied:
I had similar ones I bought for the girls. Kylie did not like it for some reason and Megan constantly chewed the straw off which then in turn made them leak. wacko.gif

These ones have actually lasted us the longest and are cheap, but they just started leaking on us the other day -- if you shake them the liquid will come out in very tiny amounts from the sip area even when it's closed. rolleyes.gif They've lasted us 2-2.5 months. Grrrrrr......

And as far as BPA you don't have to worry about it if the plastics are BPA free and they will say that on the bottle. happy.gif

coasterqueen replied: And our bottles get a lot of abuse anyways because the girls are on the bus in the morning for 45 minutes and at night 25 minutes -- I remember the bus rides -- it's amazing the bottles aren't dented, broken, you name it -- those kids throw the bags down on the floor and don't care if they step on it, etc. wacko.gif rolleyes.gif

This is the one that Ben uses. he takes his lunch every day and it has held up, although the picture has washed off. rolleyes.gif We have never had a issue with leaking.

My3LilMonkeys replied: We use Subzero brand stainless steel water bottles and have not had a single problem with leaks. The girls each have a large 25 oz. one that they use for cheerleading and road trips and a smaller one that is probably 12 oz. that they take for school. I got them at Walgreens for $5 each.

MoonMama replied: Brae and I both have these stainless steal subzero bottles I bought at Walgreen's of all places (each was under $7) they have both adult and kid sizes. Screw on lids that even Brae has no issue getting off/on, and I take them everywhere and trust me they get a ton of wear and tear with him (his has been dropped and dropped and dropped on the sidwalk SO many times) rolling_smile.gif and has never once leaked.

coasterqueen replied:
We've used those, too laugh.gif and they are just like the ones Dee Dee posted and my 5 year old chews off the straw part like she's a dog. rolleyes.gif Then that makes them leak. wacko.gif

coasterqueen replied: I will look into the subzero ones too. Thanks. thumb.gif

PrairieMom replied:
yeah, I didn't read the rest of the thread before I posted. Al chews the straw too, but we haven't had any leaking issues.

luvbug00 replied: i wanna get one so I can chew the straw! i love those kinds! lol!

holley79 replied: We have the steel subzero as well. They don't leak and I have abused mine badly. laugh.gif

coasterqueen replied: Great! Looks like I will try the subzero first before ordering the ones Naydia recommended. I will have to look at them, do you have to screw the lid on? If so Megan will be hopeless. The kid can't put lids back on stuff I send her lunch in. growl.gif I've gone to clean out her lunchbag and had soup all over the place too. growl.gif The problem is the girl doesn't EAT what I send her. She may take one or two sips of soup and so then the rest comes back and of course if she doesn't screw the lid on the soup mug then it gets all over. So I could see if that's the case with the subzeros I'll have the same issue. wacko.gif But I won't rule them out until I go look at them. tongue.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied:
We have 2 different ones. the smaller ones have a screw on lid only. The larger ones came with 2 seperate lids - one you have to unscrew to drink from and one that had a flip top spout for drinking. The girls love the flip top!

holley79 replied: Hey Karen you may want to check walmart. They have the subzero bottles on sale for $3.00.

coasterqueen replied: Oooh thanks for info on flip tops -- will have to look for those and Holley thank you for info on Walmart! I'm gonna have to go by there. thumb.gif
