For those considering the swine flu vax

Swine Flu Vax Immunity

Never knew the government did this. huh.gif

ZandersMama replied: Thats worrisome. it kinda makes me wonder if this vaccine is going to be tested at all, or if the world will be guina pigs.

MommyToAshley replied: I knew there were gov't funds set aside for those that have serious reactions or complications due to vaccines as it is stated on the pamphlet that they handed out each time with the shots. However, I did not know that drug companies were immune from any lawsuits rising from complications from the vaccines. I understand the reasoning as drug companies would otherwise focus their efforts elsewhere, but it does make you wonder where the accountability is?

coasterqueen replied:
Not only accountability, but I understand they are trying to entice companies to go forward with making vaccines, but knowing there is no accountability, how safe will they be in making them? Sometimes these vax are made and sent out in mass quantity within months, like the SF vax appears to have been the case. That's what scares me. It's also very sad that companies have to be encouraged to make the vax because they aren't money makers.

DVFlyer replied: One of my strongly held beliefs is that- generally speaking- dr's and drug companies are not out to screw people by providing drugs just because they get a kickback from the pharmaceutical companies (dr's) and putting out drugs that are unsafe just to make a buck (drug companies).

If I found this to be wrong, my view of the world would be forever changed.

I don't believe the drug companies would do any less stringent testing just because they can't get sued. In direct contrast, I think it would open the market up so that more companies could enter the arena without the fear of being bankrupt by one good lawyer.

jcc64 replied:

I just couldn't disagree with you more. Drug companies have a long, sordid history of putting profits before ethical considerations. Trust them at your own risk, I believe.

To answer your question, Karen, I was aware of the liability protection cited in the MSNBC article, and I am still undecided about getting the vax, though leaning more towards not at this point.

boyohboyohboy replied: absolutely not getting it, as if all this and they other posts we had posted isnt enough, the one site recently that tara posted about it said that there is a high content of mercury in the swine flu vaccine.

luvmykids replied: I sort of understand the gov't thinking, they consider swine flu to be an emergency therefore want the vax, and quickly, without time for much testing. However, it doesn't sound reassuring, does it?

I like to try to give the drug companies the benefit of the doubt, but hearing this almost makes you think they KNOW there will be complications.

A&A'smommy replied: I read on the news that they won't know what the side effects are of the vax until 1 MILLION people get it my family is NOT getting this vax

A&A'smommy replied: OHHHH And there are SEVERAL confirmed cases of the swine flu in our school system and everyone is saying all the kids have is minor aches and pains, low grade fever other than that you can't hardly tell they are sick rolleyes.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: I am calling our school nurse today and asking that she do some demo training on washing hands and covering your mouth when you cough with these kids monthly.I think it would a great deal.

coasterqueen replied:
Yes, our school did this the first day of school and they do it quite often throughout the year. The go as far as to explain that if you eat your boogers you are gonna get sick. laugh.gif Ewww..

I do believe the drug companies try to provide a safe product as they possibly can within the government safety guidelines. Even though they have no accountability for lawsuits, their name is at stake. That being said, it still fears me that they might cut corners but still be within the safety guidelines. I believe the safety government guidelines might not be good enough for my standards, though.

My2Beauties replied:
Jessy my dad lives there in Huntsville and in his area 3 children have died from it already. I'm not trying to scare anyone, I won't be getting the vax either...but to small children this disease is very scary. This is why we have to enforce our kids that washing their hands and not touching their face a lot and being clean is so very important.

DVFlyer replied:
They do? I guess it's lucky I don't recall hearing countless cases of what you describe.

A&A'smommy replied:
yeah I heard on the news this morning that 4 in alabama have died but around here in my little town the kids aren't getting real sick from it. But guys look at the regular old flu 35,000 die from it every year last year only 500 died from the swine flu

A&A'smommy replied:
they do that here too, and they teach our kids not to cover their mouth with their hands but to cough into your shoulder

My2Beauties replied:
I think you are absolutely right. I think for right now it's not as bad as people are making it out to be, but these things can mutate and that is what is so scary!

redchief replied: The Anti-Thimerosal lobby is still alive and well and warning you of doom, gloom and autism if you get a flu shot. It's hooey. I'm getting my shots. thumb.gif

boyohboyohboy replied:
I think there are more things in the swine flu shot to worry about then just thimerasol at this point, the silver is higher concentration then has been tried before.
the neurological adverse effects are being documented.
I think everyone should just do their own research and go from there.
I hope it all hooey, and no one gets sick, either from a non mutating virus and also a mild vaccine.

my2monkeyboys replied: We have had an outbreak of it just recently at all of our local schools.... almost the entire band at the high school has/had it over the last week. SO far it seems to be just mild cases of it.
I will be being more diligent about not going into large, close crowds (say, Walmart on a Saturday) and washing, washing, washing hands, and using antibacterial gel when we can't wash. I think it's like anything else, use common sense to try not to get it, and if you think you have it go to the Dr. immediately and start treating it.

Hopefully this won't the "plague of 2009" that wipes out half our country.
