mckayleesmom replied: Carls Jr is in California and its good, but in the Midwest they are called Hardys and they are better. Same company, but different methods of cooking if you ask me. Carls Jr always burnt stuff when we went there.

I hate to burst your bubble but if indeed Carls Jr is Hardees. They are GROSS

I worked at one (in High School) for exactly 1.5 hours before the dirt and nastiness in the kitchen literally made me sick. I left and have never, ever set foot in another hardees again. I won't even get a drink from there because I saw how filthy the storage area was where they kept the cups.

I did alot of resteraunt work and Hardees by far the worst! Granted, they are probably franchises and so perhaps it was just "our" store but eeewwww.

*Edited to say that McD's burgers look really yummy in the ads too but they sure never make it to my car looking like that. LOL. The only fast food place I've ever had a burger that looked remotely like the ads was Whataburger. Now those are yummy.

mckayleesmom replied: Well i worked at McDonalds and i can tell you that they don't wash all the dishes to the McRibs...lol...I watched them and the manager only had them dunck them in soapy water and then into the sanatizer..they put them away all slimy. My sister worked at a Hardys and only lasted a day too..lol

I've worked in a couple where you could "eat off of the floor" but they were country clubs so I'm can't go there now. It's funny too. Some of the nicest places have the grossest kitchens. I remember one upscale Italian place here in town and the owners son was chasing roaches around in the kitchen with a propane blow torch....during dinner rush. blech.

I love eating out though, so I just try to make good choices. Most of the problems aren't real health issues, just rather unappetizing.

Food just tastes better somehow when someone else cooks it.

kimberley replied: reading all these posts makes me glad i live in Toronto. they have been doing mass inspections for a couple of years now and every restaurant has to display their green "pass" sign in the front window or somewhere visible. scary thing is that a ton of restaurants failed initially and got shut down... most of them failed because of horrific kitchen conditions. yuck!

as for fast food, i won't eat where a lot of teenagers work that doesn't have a visible kitchen. i knew a bunch of guys who worked at KFC who used to spit and do other unseemly things to the batter... and the chicken is just disgusting to begin with.

Ah yes Wataburger. I love that place. DH told me when he gets to Pensacola on Weds he's going to eat at Wataburger. I told him to eat an extra chicken strip for me. Our other big burger joint out here is Jack in the Box. It's all right, but I think I would rather have Wendy's. I would really love a Miami Sub out here too. I love Miami Sub.

I managed a few restaurants in my earlier days and I can tell you that there are good restaurants and there are gross restaurants within the same chain. The Apple Bee's I worked at (for a day) had one of the dirtiest kitches I have ever seeen. I used to LOVE their food until I saw their kitchen. I haven't eaten at one since then.
