For all the overwhelmed new Mommies - We all made mistakes..list here
TANNER'S MOM wrote: Well in all almost 15 years as a mother I have made a lot...
Brittany- I tried to be the au naturalle mother.. Breast fed..cloth diapered etc. In the middle of the night at a mid nite diaper change.. I poked her w/ the pin so bad she bleed. (this was the days b4 the fancy cover ups..lol) 2. I was soaking a little shirt or something in bleach.. I didnt want to bleach the whole shirt..so I had it in a cup..(again the days b4 bleach pens) The phone rang,, I went to answer it... Left the cup on the table...Britt walked by and drank the bleach.... POISION CONTROL # please...
Justin- When he was 2....we went on a family trip in my uncles van. I was unloading stuff and he wanted me to help him down.. I said what a sec Mom's busy... He fell out of the van and had to have stiches in his chin and lip..still has a slight scar..
Tiffany- She was 2 and I went out to play w/ her in the dirt. We were digging..and she started screaming bloody murder.... I didnt know what to do???? I couldnt find what was wrong and it was a blood chilling scream... I freaked out..come to find out it was a centipide..yes we get those here in Ark... had crawled up her shorts and stung her....I didnt know what to do..ER here we come....she was fine..they gave her some benedryl.. but I will always remember that and not sit in the sand..

He bite his tongue all the way thru..It was awful and was just mangled.... blood everywhere..DH freaked it was BAD,,ER here we come...they did nothing..ice... But he broke that thing that holds your tongue down so now he is a little Gene Simmons and can touch his nose and his chin....lol
Thats just a few of my BIGGER mistakes...it makes me seem like an awful Momma but they were all innocent...
Man they do seem bad huh>??????
stanleygirl replied: Oh my worse thing ever was when I brought Brady home, he was just a month old, and I was so sleep deprived, like maybe 2 or 3 hours a day I was getting. I had to wash bottles, so I put Brady in this infant chair we have and started carrying him (in the chair) to the kitchen, tripped, and dropped the chair, he fell right on his head I went straight to the ER and thought they were going to take my baby or at least lecture me on proper baby care. The doctor told me this kind of thing happens all the time and Brady was just fine. I felt so guilty though
luvbug00 replied: I remember walking with Mya when she was like 2 and she was just learning to walk and I set her down for some practice and I accedently crossed her path and she fell face first into the floor and she Blead soo badly and we took her to the doctor and she had "killed" ( damaged the root)in her frount tooth. It's grey to this day and it should be the first to fall out.( or so the dentist says)
boobies4virtue replied: Dh fell down the fron steps with Virtue this winter. She was fine, she slept through it, but it scared the poopies out of both of us. I put her in her car seat and forgot to snap her into it and drove on bad roads for a good hour to get home. I just about had a heart attack when I got there. Oh yeah, and I put her in her infant carrier and had it sitting on the toilet seat in the bathroom while I was fixing my hair and she was sleeping. She was about 8 weeks old. Phone rang, I went to answer it and she managed to flip herself out of the seat. Found her on the bathroom floor on her face. We both cried and I made Ray come home from work. Then there was Noah, the foster boy we had, He choked on a hot dog the one day and I panicked and it took me forever ( ok, so it probably wan't long at all, just felt like it) to do the heimlich right. I was trying to do it with my palms flat on his ribcage. Finally got it right though.
NummyMommy replied: Well I WAS the absolute perfect mother (tongue firmly in cheek here)....at first.....then my second came along....my oldest was NEVER one to get into anything....but my second was a complete shock from the time he could crawl....nothing was safe....I was on the phone constantly with poison control (luckily nothing turned out serious)....I was sure they had a thick file on me that was going to CPS any day. He had to have stiches twice before he turned 3....he climbed out of his crib before he turned 1...figured out every restraining device known to man.....EVEN his carseat! (Imagine having to explain to a highway patrolman that you pulled over because your 2 year old unbuckled his carseat!) He could climb any dresser or cabinet in the house easily (probably only thing that saved him was his own skill) and was a master escape artist. I literally couldnt take my eyes off him for a second his first 3 years...he showered with me....he went into the potty with me. I made a lot of mistakes because I foolishly thought "well his brother didn't....." but boy did I learn from them. I had never in all my years of childcare ever seen a child like him. But the thing is that we try so hard as parents to do the right thing every second of every day, but kids still find ways to get hurt even if we do everything perfectly ( A friend suggested jokingly that I take everything out of his room and pad the walls....but I knew he'd figure out a way of choking on the padding )
amynicole21 replied: Just last night I was taking Sophia to time out and she was kicking and flailing... I set her on the floor and walked out, and she came out screaming and crying, saying "look Mommy, look!" There was a huge gash down her leg and she was bleeding everywhere... it wasn't deep, just one of those that takes off a layer or two of skin and bleeds forever. I have no idea how it happened, but I cried because I felt like such a bad mother... and boy did Sophia milk that boo boo all night long.
jacobsmama replied: haha It is great to know I"m not the only one who has injured, dropped, or ummm hahha.. I did when jacob was 9 months old I let him play in the grass on a blanket and he had crawled off "while I I turned my back for a second" and was eating a bug!!! It was so gross I freaked out and then he started crying needless to say he was fine but wow it was a pincher bug to top it all off!
ediep replied: I forgot to buckle the center thing in Jasons carseat once.
When he was a tiny baby I had him on the floor playing with him, I was shaking a rattle and my fingernail scraped his tiny leg and cut him. Poor thing screamed and I cried too!
When he was really tiny, I sat him on the couch and called for DH "look how cute, Jason is on the couch" and bang! he tumbled off the couch!
I once fed him a bottle of milk that was just about spoiled! Oh man, that made me soooo upset because I didn't realize it until after he was done, I think I even posted about it.
A&A'smommy replied: When alyssa was little I held her all the time while I did everything one day when I was playing on Jeremiah's laptop she was laying on my legs, I let go of her for two seconds and she rolled of my legs onto the bed I CRIED it didn't hurt her just scared her! And another day when I was incredibly sleep deprived I layed Alyssa down differently than I usually do and when I did I turned for a second never leaving her side when I went to sit down I almost sat on her but she screamed before I did... I felt like a horrible mother I CRIED!!!!
mummy2girls replied: ok my turn:)
When jenna was a infant maby 3 weeks old. I had placed her on the couch thinking she wont fall off and i got up to pick something off the florr and all of a sudden i hear THUNK!! i turned and she was on the floor.. OMG i felt horrible!
And when she was just learning to walk we were leaving the apartment buiolding an d i was holding 2 doors( the heavy ones) with my feet. Jenna was approaching and i leaned to one side and the one door slipped from behind my feet and got jennas big toe! OMG! i was horrified! She milked that boo boo for weeks...
I could go on but i wont or else social services will be at my door....
Boys r us replied: When Tanner was little(4 mths or so) I had him on my bed which was pretty high off of the floor, I turned around for just a moment and he had tolled off and was screaming..my heart SANK! So I comforted him and then I was getting him ready for his bath..THE SAME DAY...and I went to lay him in the tub and I had one hand under his bottom and the other under his head. I removed my hand from his bottom once it was on the bottom of the tub and I THOUGHT I had his head close enough to the floor of the tub to remove my hand and slowly lower it down..well I was wrong!! WRONG!!! His head slammed into the bottom of the tub! I was almost in tears at this point..after all I had probably given him a concussion with all of the banging of his head in one afternoon. THEN I was getting ready to wash him and I had a big bottle of baby shampoo from sam's. It had a pump on it and I reached across Tanner and put my fingers around the pump and picked it up, just as I got it over top of Tanner, the pump came off and the whole big bottle fell, YOU GUESSED IT..right on his head!
With Braedon, I've gashed the side of his face with my figernail, he STILL has a little scar there I gave him a breadstick to naw on one night when we were having takeout from the olive garden, he was about 9 mnths old..well he choked and couldn't breathe and we had to call 911 and try to unlodge it while we were waiting on them and he was turning purple. Rick finally got it out, but after we did, we both were crying and Tanner was crying! OMG..that was HORRIBLE! He ate babyfood for the next year of his life after that.lol not really but if it were up to me he would have!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Hmmm.
Ok with Zach he flipped himself out of his carseat once... he was sleeping, dunno HOW he did it... went out of the room for aminute or so...prpabbly to go to the bathroom or something and I came back and the carseat was upside down, with him still strapped in to the inside... still sleeping... face a little red from being upside down.
I slammed Zach in his bed when he was about 14 months... I was 7 months pg, and had had it with his whining... so I just shoved him in his bed and slammed te door...better that than what I REALLY felt like doing...
Fell once with EMilie...she was in her carseat, I just about became a contortionist to stop her from hitting the ice... I think she had a little bruise under her arm from my thumb graspong her... but she didn`t touch the ground (it was winter), and my behind and my back was al ittle red and purple the next day
I got stung by a wasp last summer, I was holding Emilie, she was about 8 months old I guess... my hands automatically went to my ear (where I got stung) because I`m like really freaky about bugs...can`t stnad them near me... I`m the carzy lady who runs away screaming from, of all things, MOTHS. Anyhoo - I remember I had her in my arms at the last second and caught her around the waist like a football... DH was right there and took her from me and I was was crying so hard from the sting - it didn`t really HURT, I just hate BUGS.
Both kids have drank a bottle of spoiled milk... I forgot it was there at night, and they were drinking it in the morning, I didn`t take it away, thinking it was DH who`d given it to them.. but nope, wasn`t him!! Ew.
I left both kids in their cribs when they were really young to try and get some rest... like 1 1/2 month old. Breastfeeding is TOUGH at first! At least it was for me... didn`t sleep well at night, didn`t sleep much during the day... ance in a while, you just need a few hours of SLEEP! So int he crib the baby went, and mommy hid for 1 hour or so.
I`ve given Emilie a sip of brandy when she wasn`t feeling well and wasn`t sleeping... cleared her sinuses AND put her out for 3 hours. but in my defence, it was my grandmother who told me to do it, as a folk remedy... lol but hey, it worked! I`ve nly done it once since then. I mean to her. It takes more than a sip for me.... ha ha ha j/k
I`ve let the kids run around nekkid during the day to save on diapers if we were outside.... not that we coulnd`t afford them or anything - I was (still am) frugal!
I`ve picked up food off the floor once dropped and given it back to the kids to eat... like a piece of hotdog or something, not mushy stuff though...my floor is CLEAN though!
moped replied: Jack was a small baby and I was shopping with him and unbuttoned his carseat bucket thingy because it was hot - drove him all the way home screaming and he was NOT buckled in at all.....I nearly crapped myself I felt so bad................there are many more, like leaving his bedroom light on all night recently
My2Beauties replied: Oh man - I have done some really dumb stuff and some stuff that I'm thankful she didn't get hurt:
I've put her diapers on backwards and not even realized it
Oh man I felt really bad one time she was crying in the middle of the night and I was so tired that I didn't feel like getting her out of her crib and doing anything, so I went in there gave her her sippy cup and was like It's ok baby go back to sleep. I was patting her on the back, she fell back asleep only to wak up 2 more times that night, finally I picked her up (this was recently) and she was soaked, she had peed through her diaper and onto her bed, I felt so awful for having made her lay there for another couple hours in her pee soaked bed
She fell out of her rocking chair one time (she has a little baby one) and it was so funny how she fell sideways that I started laughing so hard, I mean crying I was laughing so hard and she really did get hurt. Normally Hanna laughs too when she falls and it didn't hurt but she grabbed the side of her leg and started screaming bloody murder after I had a couple seconds of uncontrollable laughter, I felt terrible.
When Hanna was about 6 weeks old, around Christmas time, we had a huge snow and it was melting, ice was all over the place. He was carrying her in the house in her carseat and he slipped and fell really hard, right on his butt and his back, almost hit his own head, he held that carseat up in the air though, but when he smacked you know his arm fell down fast and she almost hit, it startled her and she started screaming.
Hanna has an allergic reaction to baby powder that is scented for some reason - when she was a newborn I thought it smelled so good so I doused her bottom with it every diaper change when I got some, about two days later she developed a really bad diaper rash, it was beet red, Brian's grandma (the sitter) continued to put the baby powder on her bottom through everytime she changed her and so did we, thinking it would dry the rash out - we finally figured it out after a couple more days, we stopped using it and piled on the Desitin and it went away! I felt awful!
I have hit her head numerous times - I mean a gazillion while I'm holding her, just this morning I was holding her walking out the front door with her and I hit her head on the screen door! She is so used to me doing it now that she just looks at me and grabs her head, doesn't even flinch though
A&A'smommy replied: I forgot a couple
LeaAnn I have hit Alyssa's head SO many times when we are walking through a doorway and its not because I'm too fat or anything its because I'm INCREDIBLY clumsy!! Poor kid but recently dh not sure how he did it but accidently walked her into a walland scraped up her belly and POPPED all the little bumps that on her belly from that virus and they have almost gone away because of that... poor thing didn't even cry
When Alyssa was about 8months old I put her in her carseat on the table because it was just easier anyway dh forgot to put her bloomers on over her diaper (she was wearing a dress) so i told him to come stand by her and I walked off not sure what I was thinking and she flipped off the table IN her carseat... that was awful!!!
I think there is probably more things that I have done but thank God I can't think of them right now
mom2tripp replied: Wow let's see,
*Just the other night when tripp was sick, he was in bed with me and my husband was at work, I woke up and Tripp was on the floor
* When he was about two months old he fell asleep in the car seat before leaving work and when I got home I realized that he had been unbuckled the whole time
**Tripp is only 8 months old--FOR SURE there are many many more to come
