Foods you still don't feed your toddler?

I don't give her: nuts, raisins, steak (or any hard to chew meat), any raw veggies (I always steam them), or grapes. I give her corn but not corn on the cob. I have given her a hotdog once or twice but I cut it up really small and worried the entire time she ate it. I also still peel and cut fresh fruit (like apples and peaches) up small for her.
What do you do? When should we introduce some of these things?
(I also try to avoid sweets except for a special treat )
amynicole21 replied: I really don't have anything left that I won't give her. She eats grapes, peanut butter, peanuts (halved) raisins, hot dogs... I don't like to give her candy, but she's had it I'm just sure to cut it up pretty small and am always watching her when she eats. Knock wood, everythings gone ok.
alice&arik replied: M2A...Arik eats everything you mentioned. Well not steak, unless it is really easy to chew, but he doesn't like it much anyway. His favorite is grapes. He also has to have corn on the cob. He loves it!! Whenever we have some he has to have his own small cob and he gets every little peice of corn off it! Sometimes he will suck on it for a while too. But it isn't a very pretty diaper in the morning. As for hotdogs, sometimes I cut them up and sometimes I just cut them in half and let him take bites off it.
I guess I would introduce the foods whenever you feel comfortable, so you don't worry so much. But I am sure she would do just fine with them, or else she would probably tell you she doesn't like it because she is pretty smart.
coasterqueen replied: Kylie has had everything you mentioned M2A except raisins, haven't tried those yet, lol. She's had filet mignon for sure. It's very soft and she has no problem with it. If she does she'll gnaw on it and just spit it back out, lol.
Oh and she's had corn on cob, just not on cob *yet*, lol, but I'm sure she will this summer.
paradisemommy replied: taven eats all the foods you listed..in fact hot dogs are his favorite but i can't cut them up - he has to have the whole thing and bites off pieces since he's going on like 5 and HAS to do everything by himself..
ediep replied: Jason has not had nuts, peanut butter, steak (I don't eat mammals, so I don't cook it! ) I also have not given him bologna, hot dogs, raw veggies, and I still cut the skin off fruit. I haven't given him any tropical fruit like pineapple or kiwi because I am allergic.

Jamison'smama replied: Jamison loves raisins, haven't tried peanut butter but she has had a couple of peanuts--she really likes hotdogs but I quarter them--they make me nervous also. I would love to feed her grapes but she won't eat them---I have tried and I also quarter those. She likes to eat corn on the cob--didn't eat it when I cut it off.
mummy2girls replied: The onlyg i dont feed jenna is nuts because of being to hard but i will give her pb. and i dont give her tough meats..only chicken and roast beef.
but she will eat anythimng i give her. she has even eaten brussels sprouts. So im lucky because what i make for dinner she will eat! Lets hope it stays this way!
jdkjd replied: Bailey loves steak, hotdogs, and raisins as well as grapes. We halve the grapes and cut the steak really small. It's great for her fork practice to stab the steak and hotdog pieces...
aspenblue1 replied: Isabella just had grapes the other day-- she took them off someones plate! I still have not given her nuts, or steak yet and I still peel her fruits. I she has had raw veggies a couple of time again off someones plate. She has this thing for eating what everyone else is eating. She absolutely loves hot dogs. but I cute them up in quaters still and watch her
3_call_me_mama replied: Cameron eats everything mentioned, I don't like giving him hot dogs though. He's only had them twice. But he absolutely would not live with out grapes, raisins or steak! He's not a big fan of peanut butter, but will eat it on celery and things, just not in PB&J sandwiches! He loves peanuts and won't eat fruit if he has seen you take the skin of it, he says "no mama fix it back, whole!" he LOVES corn on the cob, he thinks it's funny to munch all of one side off and say "ding " at the end. (he watched some old mickey mouse cartoon with us one day and saw goofey do it. It cracks me up to see him copy it!) He has eaten most of this since he was about 9-10 months old except the PB and nuts (at 12 months) and hotdogs (he didn't get those until he was 16 months). But he has had almost all of his teeth for as long as I an remember, and never was a baby food kid, so he was always used to the textures. As far as when to introduce, I'd go by what you feel is right. She may surprise you and do fine with all of it but take it one thing at a time! Good luck!
lsjulee replied: Hmmm basically nothing. I rather them to be a 'rubbish bin' than a food picker.
DansMom replied: Not counting the allergy related stuff: I still don't give Daniel any hard, uncooked vegetables like carrots. I do give him raw fruit though, like apple slices, pear slices and melon slices. I do cut up grapes into quarters or halves and cut up hot dogs the same way (I try to get the nitrate-free organic dogs---he likes them less of course, because they are more rubbery and chewy). Basically, I'm terrified of anything cubed or that is bulky but can't be held and bitten into smaller pieces---anything that will likely go into his mouth whole, I won't let him have stuff that size. If it's big enough for him to hold and take bites from, though, that's different. Like a slice of melon or apple, but not cubes of the same.
I've given him steak, chicken, etc. but he still doesn't like the chewy texture. I have not tried raisins, but just gave him corn for the first time last night, which he seemed to handle well (but probably won't digest...)
Oh, and he gets no candy and shows little interest in dairy free versions of ice cream. A couple of times when he's had cake or muffin he's spit it out---might have been the texture though.
CantWait replied: A little trick for Corn on the cob ( I give Anthony it this way). Split the lines of corn down the middle with a knife. Then all the juicy stuff comes spillimg out when they suck on it. This is one of Anthony's favourites.
juliajaj replied: Olivia doesn't have any food allergies. Before giving Olivia any new food, I always discuss it with our ped. (especially nuts, tropic fruit, & anything that might be allergy-prone).
We've given her raisins, but made sure there aren't multiple raisins stuck together. She hasn't had steak, but she's had other meats, poultry & fish. We make sure to cut it up very small. We cut hotdogs into rings & then cut the rings in half. She hasn't had any raw veggies. She's had fresh fruit, but I dice it up very small.
Just a warning for kids that eat Goldfish (the regular-sized ones): Olivia & I were shopping the other day & I had some Goldfish in a small Glad container for her to snack on. I held onto the container as she took out one at a time to eat them. I thought she was chewing & swallowing after each, but she started choking - to the point that she turned red & was gasping for air. I patted her firmly on the back & she coughed them out, but it took two coughs to get everything out. I told DH that I will never give her Goldfish while shopping (or I will wait until she is much, much older). I'll probably wait a good long time before giving them to her period. I was never so terrified as to see her gasping for air. Fortunately she's OK, but it has really made me extra cautious in the food & portion size that we give to her.
supermom replied: OMG - I went to post here about Anders and just realized we moved up a notch cuz he turned 4 since we've been here!
But, he has ate anything we'd give him for quite a while now, and we have never really had any issues with choking. Emily is starting to eat many more solids, too, and we've given her chicken, veggies and such, but of course she is much younger than Ashley.
I would maybe avoid the nuts, but I would say that anything else would be alright, expecially if she is chewing and swallowing well. Cut the grapes in half if they concern you, but they are too good not to let her have some!! YUMMY! If you are giving her apples then there shouldn't be any reason that she can't do the rest of the stuff...... Just my
mommy2mylittleangels replied: I haven't had any problems with caitlyn with any foods. She has had all of those foods that you mentioned. She loves steak and would eat it everyday if she could. With the nuts i just watch her pretty close even though she is 3 the nuts still kinda scare me cause the really hard.she usally sucks onthem to make them soft. She also love hotdogs, and won't let me cut them up for her.... MISS INDEPENDANT She dosen't really care for peanut butter unless i give to her on toast or crackers. She has been eating almost all table foods since about 9 months. Fuits especially grapes she would be a miserable child with out them She also will eat crab, lobster, oysters, claims, and calamari. Weirdo I don't like any seafood but she loves it... I guess you should try things at your own pace, when she strated eating table foods it didn't bother me cause she did very well, I can't give my son who is 7 months a cookie to naw without him putting the whole thing in his mouth he makes me nervous. But your little one should be fine, GOOD LUCK
MomToMany replied: I give Hannah pretty much everything, except nuts. I don't think she's eat them anyway (she's SUCH a picky eater), or anything really hard. She doesn't eat any meat, with the exception of a little chicken or turkey. No hotdogs, steak, or any other meat for her!
Another thing I won't let my kids eat is raw honey. Even if they might be old enough to eat it, I'm not taking any chances.
