mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Of course I don't mind you asking! thumb.gif Yes, we celebrate both. My mother is Jewish and my father raised a Protestant. DH is a Christian and I consider myself both. We put up the menorah and the tree and the stockings. As you can see from my siggy!

All my life I never understood why Hanukkah fell on different dates. I remember once it was the end of November. So I googled and found this for those interested:

Hanukkah does fall at the same time ever year -- in Israel. That's because Judaism uses a lunar calendar, unlike the solar calendar we use in the United States. It's the same eight-day celebration, beginning on the 25th of the Hebrew month of Kislev (it should be noted that in Israel, Jews use both calendars -- the Gregorian ones for secular lfe, and the Hebrew one for determining religion holidays). This year, that means Hanukkah begins on the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 4 (so if you see a calendar that says the first day of Hanukah is Dec. 5, it's true, but most Jewish holidays begin at sundown the night before). The final candle lighting is sundown on Tues., Dec. 11.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Not so well. blush.gif I know you can buy a boxed mix at the store, but last year I tried it from scratch...grating the potatos, added the egg...but they turned out sorta runny on the inside and greasy on the outside. And they aren't so good unless you eat them hot, straight out of the oil. In other words, don't try to reheat them for another day. I do make good matzoh ball soup though! wink.gif

Thanks again everyone, your wishes mean a lot!
