First bday - What did you do, what will you do?

momof2girls wrote: I want to have a big bday party for Kiley in Oct with family and friends about 40 at least at my house, hubby says that is way too many people we should just keep it family.
What did you ladies do? Or what will you do when they turn 1?
Its a big deal to me! Even though she wont really know what is going on!
lol

MommyToAshley replied: I had originally planned to keep Ashley's party small, but more and more people asked about it as we got closer to her birthday. Everyone wanted to be a part of her first birthday, I guess. wub.gif So, we had a cook-out and ended up having around 50 people. I think we will keep it smaller this year though. laugh.gif

mummy2girls replied: I had jennas at my place with my family..which was only my parents, sister her hubby and dd and my brother and jens daddy also. i made cupcakes for her bithday and had hotdogs and fries..very simple. Then the next day i had one at jens dads house for his family which was also small too. did the same things cupcakes hotdogs burgers and fries.

kit_kats_mom replied: we had a large cook out at our house and about 25 people showed up. One thing to keep in mind is that at one, they can get overwhelmed pretty easily. Katherine had a couple of breakdowns because she was overwhelmed by that many people being there & paying attention to her. Next time, I will keep it smaller just for the kids sake.

ediep replied: we had about 35 poeple at our house. We planned an out door party but it rained, so we crammed all those people in our house. This year we will have the same people but we have since finished our basement, so if it rained we will have more space!!!

aspenblue1 replied: we had a big party for her 1st birthday.

A&A'smommy replied: I don't "plan" on having something quite that big but I do want to do something really special probably here if we get this place fixed up enough and cleaned up, if not maybe at my inlaws or something... and I think I either want to do a princess theme or winnie the pooh dunno.gif I don't really want to think about it to much my little doesn't NEED to turn 1 sad.gif rolleyes.gif

dolfinrse replied: We had a birthday party with about 30 family/friends at the firehouse my brother belongs to. We couldn't have it at our house, we live in a condo. And we couldn't have it at my dad's or in-laws, we have to keep things on neutral territory, if you know what I mean. dry.gif

MomToJade&Jordan replied: We had a small get together with the people who live in the courtyard. We cooked some food and had some cake. It wasn't a really big deal. We live in Hawaii so none of our family were able to make it out here.

jem0622 replied: I learned a big lesson from having a big bash for my eldest DS...and I did not repeat it with my youngest. Just too much for him. And it really is their day...not Mom & Dad's and everyone else's! It was nice to have a quiet party the second go around. I plan to keep the 2nd birthday the same way.

coasterqueen replied: We had 54 people at Kylie's party, but I think we actually had way more invited, though. Since it was so big we couldn't afford to feed everyone, so we decided to have the party at the park and have everyone who wanted to to join us for a picnic lunch. Everyone brought their own food and we all ate. Then had ice cream, cake and punch. It was a blast. The older kids and adults played kickball and frisbee and the younger kids played on the park equipment. It was very nice.

I don't think we'll do that for her 2nd birthday though. Her 1st birthday was a bit stressful for DH and I, lol.

kimberley replied: we make a HUGE deal over first birthdays in my family! i usually end up renting the hall at my aunt's building and have about 50-60 people. i am not sure if i am going to be able to do it for Jade's first birthday though since i haven't been working and don't have a lot of money. we might just deck out the backyard and do it here at the house with about 30-40 people.

Kaitlin'smom replied: we had a huge gathering, it was nice but who the gifts, this year we dont really plan on anything but maybe some family over sometime....
