My own answer - I will hire a doula- dh needs lots of help to learn how to support me during labor!

the same thing i did with the last two, planned inductions with epidural.

Hi, my name is Chris and I am posting here for the first time. I have 3 children, Sean will be 5 in Apr, Kari will be 3 in Mar and Emily is 3 months old.

With Sean I opted to try the natural approach, after 19 hours of labor i was only dilated to 5 or 6. I then took the epidural which helped me to relax so I dilated to 10 very quickly after that. Pushed for 4 hours and then had a c-section. UGH!
Kari went much differently..it was a great experience. I did not hesitate for the epidural. Within 5 hours of labor and pushing i had a baby. Did the same thing with Emily and had her within 2hrs and 45 min.
I unfortunately do not go into labor on my own, therefore needed to be induced, but this allowed me to plan when, which avoids those 2 am surprises.

coasterqueen replied: Oh that is great we are going to ttc either in June or late July, depending on when we go on our rafting trip. We want to go have a nice weekend w/o Kylie before we ttc, and drink too Hehehehe.

What I will do different the next time.....

1. We will definately hire a doula. DH said that 2 seconds after Kylie was born, lol.

2. I will not cave in to the doctors and nurses. I will try everything I can to have this baby the way I want to this time (VBAC) instead of c/s.

3. I will try to go much longer w/o epi and will not elect for an induction ever again.

4. I will not let them give me a nipple shield to use if baby is having trouble latching on.

Oh I'm sure I have much more, but I'll stop there.

MomToJade&Jordan replied: I am going to be closer to my family. I think that's it. I did that whole pregnancy without my Mom and that was very hard.

coasterqueen replied: Ooh, forgot one I would have more sex towards the end whether I wanted it or not! I've heard this worked for many women to kickstart labor. I'm willing to try anything, lol.

PS, we're going to start trying in June, too! Maybe there will be a new crop of March 2005 babies on the board

I also want some more alone time with dh and baby- this time, I'm not allowing anyone in for 5 hours after the baby is born. When Jaci was born, my mil, sil, and bil got to see her first bath, but I didn't since I was still so numb from the epidural- they blocked my view!

I will also be brave enough to show my birth plan to the nurses and my dr.

Yes! I am making sure of that this time. I don't want anyone there but me, DH and Maddie. I want to hold him before everyone else. I was totally ignored last time.

Beccas_mom replied: I am going to skip the whole labor part. (I was induced w/ Becca and ended up with a c-section after 12 hours of labor.) This time I am going in for a planned c-Section!

I will watch my weight more and not blame all the weight gain on the baby!

We are going to try again in June too:)

Schnoogly replied: Well, in my next pregnancy a lot won't be under my control. I am high risk now b/c of Iain's heart. So I will have to have mega testing done, genetic workup, everything.

However, I will *try* not to gain 45 lbs LOL!
I will *try* to relax and enjoy it more, although I'm not sure how since I will be so worried about the baby's heart
I will have a hospital grade breastpump brought to my hospital room just in case.
Not sure I'd do anything different in regards to the labor, depending on how it goes. I'd get another epi if I had the same situation, but would try to avoid it since it delays milk production.
I would hire a DIFFERENT doula, since we were unhappy with our last one. She never followed up w/us and didn't stay after the birth.

I do want another baby, but I'm just terrified of having one like Iain. Heart defect was bad enough, but add high needs and I don't think I could survive another like him.

kimberley replied: i am thinking i might have a home birth with a midwife. Jade came so fast i really didn't need the epi and the whole induction experience has turned me off of another hospital birth. this time i want to be in control of my birthing experience!
