Finally!!!!!!!! - Jake took food!
boyohboyohboy wrote: About two days ago I started pumping EBM, and have been using it to make really runny rice cereal, and Jake has taken it twice now! Yesterday he took about a 1/3 cup and was actively grabbing the spoon and putting it in his mouth! He had most of it on his shirt, but he seems to like it, and the best part...NO GAGGING!
This morning my husband took him and he ate an entire jar of stage one pears! So I think he is getting the idea. I am still going to BF him, but offer him solids at meal time.
I am so relieved, this has been a terrible time for me, feeling like I had done something wrong. But he seems no worse for the wear under my watch now!
CantWait replied: There's no stopping him now. He'll want everything you guys are eating and more, knowing that the solids are so yummy.
WTG!!!!
BabyOwen427 replied: Congrats on the solids! Keep it down Jake, no ing.
I just had to use that smily, I think it's funny.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: WTG Jake!!! Believe me I can feel your excitement - the first time Andrew took some jarred food I got up and did a happy dance I was so thrilled. I hope keeps it up for you!
boyohboyohboy replied: False alarm, I guess it was just a fluke! Jake has stopped eating.....
kit_kats_mom replied: oh, phooey. keep in mind that their teeth coming in can cause bouts of not eating. We experimented with temps, hot, cold, room temp foods. Might want to try that. Also, some kids just hog out when they are growing then slow way down.
K is still that way. She could live off of a carnation instant breakfast, cheese stick and some baby carrots everyday for weeks. Then all of a sudden, like today, the little bugger eats a giant breakfast, whole lunch, grapes and cheese and a juice box for snack, and gobbles up her whole dinner including dessert, then eats a plout, a plum and an orange before bed.
Try not to let the feeding drive you nuts...because it really can. He won't starve himself.
Bamamom replied: Have you tried the fruit puffs? Tripp likes them cause he can feed himself and they seem to help with the teething too cause they can chomp on them a bit. And they dissolve with the baby's spit so he shouldn't choke on it.
HTH
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Don't get frustrated yet, once in a day is pretty good. I'd try the fruit again tomorrow, and if he takes it, then don't offer it again until the next day - just give him the runny cereal that he's already been doing good with. He might just need to take it really slow. hang in there, he will eat someday!
msoulz replied: Erin has her days when she just wants to nurse too. Don't give up!!
boyohboyohboy replied: You guys were right! Jake has not eaten a thing over the weekend, just nursed. I offered but didnt push. I also got some of those fruit puffs, and those are great! he was able to manulate those with no problems, and no GAGGING! I talked to the speech therapist who said they do not use cheerios for first foods, they do not dissolve. I thought I might share that. I always thought they were great for toddlers, but they say no. Today Jake took a jar of bananas for breakfast, and a jar of applesauce for lunch, and half jar of peas for dinner! he hasnt had that much his whole life so far.
I was glad, I also pumped alot today, so he was able to keep up with the ebm also. I think things are going so much smoother... I just have to let it happen on its own instead of pushing. thanks for the advice!
msoulz replied: That's great news Stacy! We are going to have to try those puff things. I keep hearing good stuff about them.
It seems like Jake is just a few days older than Erin. It's good to have someone with whom to compare notes.
holley79 replied: That is awesome. WTG Jake
~Roo'sMama~ replied: WTG Jake! Andrew loved the fruit puffs too.
Bamamom replied: Yeah the puffs are the bomb. Tripp has no teeth but he loves to gum them and they dissolve so quickly that you dont' have to worry much. I hope Jake keeps up the good work - way to go Jake!!!!
AlexsPajamaMama replied: wtg Jake!
Boo&BugsMom replied: YAY!!!
ashtonsmama replied: YAY! Go Jakie!
