mummy2girls wrote: She doesnt like the taste of homo milk. I have been slowly adding homo to her formula for a couple weeks now and i was up to half homo and half good start. My mom suggested that she may be not liking the homo and to try full formula. so i tried and she gulped that bottle so fast and wanted more. poor girl. now she is drinking.
So now what am i going to do when she is 1? i cant keep giving her formula.. and she loves her milk. I am going to talk to the ped and see what he says.
she is doing alot better today. she is happier and back to her goofy self Ever since taking out the homo she has been fine. Im just stumped though because she had been drinking the half and half for 5 days then all of sudden she doesnt like it? wierd. She slept all night also. i put her down at 830 and i had to wake her at 630 to get her ready to go.
aspenblue1 replied: That is great that she is doing better.
coasterqueen replied: Actually you can continue to give her formula past the age of 1. I will try to find*research* info on where I saw it at, and post it back to you. But research shows that babies *need* breastmilk or formula to the age of 1 to 2 years old for *optimal* brain growth and development. Most people do not keep going with formula/breastmilk and go to cow's milk becuz it has become the *norm* and PEDS are always recommending that direction.
Babies don't even need cow's milk. WE don't need cow's milk. Cow's milk was actually designed for cows, lol. We can get calcium, dairy from other sources and so can your DD until she decides she will accept the milk. Some kids never accept cow's milk. I was allergic to it as a baby/kid and had to get my dairy from other foods. I eventually grew out of that allergy. My sis actually developed an allergy to cow's milk later on. Weird.
I will try to find some info on this for you if you are interested
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Glad to hear that she is feeling better. Maybe give it a couple of weeks and then just try giving her homo milk. I never did mix formula and milk I always just gave it to them straight.
Schnoogly replied: Yep I agree with karen...I'd go with the baby's development not what is the norm. And if you are looking for a little variety I might try giving her a little rice milk, not instead of formula, but as a snack maybe. I am positive Iain won't be ready to "wean" from formula at a year (even though that is 3 months from now) because he is such a bad eater, he needs all the calories he can get from formula. He won't even drink juice or water or even pedialyte when he's sick, he's so picky!!
I know some other "heart" moms who give their babies pediasure after 1 year because they need the extra calories--these are babies with heart defects though. I imagine we'll have to do that, if he'll drink it.
Kaitlin'smom replied: I am so glad your figured out why she would not drink. Glad to hear she is doing better. That probalby makes you feel so much better that she drank alot. I also agree dont worry about the norm, not all babies follow this, heck hardly none, honstly I dunno where they get the info from, seems like most ped think if its right for one its good for all, we are all different. Glad my ped is not that way! I dont usually do the norm, I folow what I think is best for my daughter and thats all I can do.
mummy2girls replied: my ped told me to add slowly because she constipates really easy if i give her extra calcium
ediep replied: just keep giving her full formula and then when she turns one, try slowly adding milk to her formula. Maybe her digestive system just isn't ready for milk yet. If, when she's one, she still has trouble with milk, then maybe you could talk with your ped about soy or rice milk. For now, just stick with the formula.
CantWait replied: I didn't like the taste of homo as a kid, it was too thick tasting , you might even want to try 2% milk, that's something I can tolerate.
Guest replied: In regards to 2% milk, I just want to say that IMO there is not enough fat in 2% milk for a babies *optimal* brain growth and development. So if you are going to use 2% milk, please be aware of that.
coasterqueen replied: Oops that last message was from me. Forgot to log in.
Heather replied: I am so glad that you figured that out! I bet your are so relieved that she is eating now.
