Fever 104.4

luvmykids wrote: When do you have to take them to the doctor for fever alone? I know the fever itself is not a problem but is there some point when you figure if the fever is that high they need to be seen for whatever is causing it?

Colt has been at 104.4 for about 1.5 hours, and one dose of Motrin, cool cloth on head.

1lilpeanut2love replied: OMG!! Is he okay! Did it ever go down yet?? Poor baby. I hope he feels better soon though!

What did you decide to do with him. Is he okay!

I would give it a while to see if it goes down. Having a high temperature is not a dangerous in a child is it can be for an adult. Try to keep him hydrated with lots of fluid.

KUP. hug.gif

MommyToAshley replied: High temps freak me out. I would probably take him in if his fever hasn't gone down. Poor little fella, hope he is feeling better. hug.gif

A&A'smommy replied: keep us updated Fevers freak me out too!!! hug.gif hug.gif

kayla's mama replied: Poor little Colt hug.gif hug.gif Hope his fever has gone down. High fevers scare me to death! KUP

CAMSMOM1 replied: Give the Motrin some time to kick in. As long as his fever goes down a degree or so, and he isn't lathargic, or acting strangly, then most likely he's fine. But I would put in a call to his doctor, for some peace of mind.

Have you given him a luke-warm bath yet? Let him soak in it for 20 min. With that, and the Motrin, it should go down.

I will be praying for Colt. Hang in there Monica, and let us know how he is doing. hug.gif

luvmykids replied: Thanks guys, it did go down, to 103 after the tepid bath and another does of motrin, he slept with me and tossed and turned and moaned and groaned all night, chills, etc. but finally around 4am he really conked out, now its 100. Whew!

I did call their doctor, they have an after-hours pediatric office, like ER for kids, and the nurse said she couldn't advise me wether to bring him in or not....they must have a new policy, in the past they've always said yes, they need to be seen or no, they don't.

Anyway he's much better, perked up a lot and excited to go to their rodeo awards ceremony.

gr33n3y3z replied: I hope Colt is feeling better smile.gif

kayla's mama replied: Glad that the fever broke. Hope he's feeling better hug.gif

ilovemybaby replied: From what I have been told you only need to take them in if the fever won't go down. You can use both Tylenol and Motrin (if he is not allergic to either) because they are different drugs.
So if that dose of Motrin did not work then you would take him in.
That is really high (104.4). So it needs to come down because it could cause brain damage.

How is he now?

jem0622 replied: hug.gif Give a loaded dose of Motrin and Tylenol. Then switch between the two. Motrin every 6 hrs and Tylenol every 4. Sounds like a virus. I don't typically take them in for viruses b/c the pediatrician's office is full of sick kids.

luvmykids replied: Well he perked up a lot and then on his way up to the front of the awards ceremony to claim his new buckle poor little guy threw up .... fevers gone though!

CAMSMOM1 replied:

I'm so glad Colt is feeling better. And was able to go to the awards, to cute about the belt buckle. happy.gif Glad the motrin & bath worked. banana.gif And no more fever! woohoo.gif
