Eye color question
mckayleesmom wrote: Does anyone know how long it is before you know what color your babys eyes are going to stay? Mckaylees are Blue right now, and they seem to be getting lighter,,,I have dark brown eyes and so does my husband, but his dad and sister have blue. Mckaylees hair is dark brown,,starting to wonder if she is going to have dark hair and blue eyes.
maliksmommy replied: Dark hair and blue eyes~~how pretty:) Malik's eyes have definately lightened up and also his hair but I think we are at the point where they aren't going to change anymore.
ediep replied: Well, Jason is 8 months old and we were at the ped yesterday. The doc said " well, it looks like his eyes are going to stay brown" I knew thisalready because I have brown and so does my husband. I have a background in science and I am pretty good at basic genetics and we knew his eyes would be brown. My point is.....you may have to wait until the baby is around 8 months or so
mckayleesmom replied: ok, thanks, was just wondering cause they are getting to be a lighter blue
Mommieto2Girls replied: Madison has blue eyes like her daddy, I was really hoping she would get mine though. I have hazel , more blue than green though. But I heard they can take up to two years to change. But who knows . lol
Kaitlin'smom replied: I also heard that they can change up to 2 years.
I know Kaitlin will have blue eyes though, or a lighter. We both have blue eyes so for what I remember in HS biology class we are gonna have a blue eyed child!
Schnoogly replied: This is what happened w/Iain--they were dark blue then got lighter. Dh has blue eyes and I have green/hazel and Iain's eyes haven't changed much since about 6 weeks old, so I think they'll probably stay this color.

MomToMany replied: Hannah's eyes have stayed blue since she was born (she's 13 months old), so I don't think they will change. I have blue eyes, and Shane has green. But her hair is another story. Some days it looks blonde, other days it looks red (which I'm hoping for ). I had blonde hair when I was young, so maybe she will still end up with red hair .
kit_kats_mom replied: Katherine is 9 months old now and her eyes are slate blue. I check them everyday because I am expecting them to change (both daddy and I are brown eyed) but they haven't yet. My side of the family has blue and green eyes but I can't imagine that she won't be a brown eyed girl at some point.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: It doesn't always mean the eyes will be brown... you can have the 2 parents who have brown eyes. But if there is blue anywhere up the line on both sides, there is ptential for blue.
Let's say B = Brown gene (which is the dominant gene) and b = blue gene (which is recesive)
Grandmom (BB) Granddad (bb) Grandmom (Bb) Granddad (BB)
Mommy (Bb (has to be...) ) Daddy (BB or Bb)
Baby (BB, Bb or bb)
So....even if both parents have brown eyes (BB and Bb) the baby still has the potential to get the recessive genes from each parent, (, and have blue eyes.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: And it can skip many generations too.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Here's an example of what I mean... sorta like a picture...
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley's were blue for the first few months, then they turned Hazel like her Daddy. Sometimes they are more blue and sometimes they are more green. I have brown eyes, but I hope she keeps her Daddy's pretty Hazel eyes.
Her hair changes everyday..LOL. Sometimes it looks blondish, sometimes it looks lt. brownish, but in the sun it looks kinda strawberry blonde.
Heather replied: Alison has her Daddy eyes. I mean literally. They are identical...BLUE/Gray!! Beautiful!!! SHe was born with them and they really haven't changed.
ediep replied: Zach's mom, Thanks! I am a science teacher when I am not on infant care leave LOL, but what I meant was that I knew that my dad is BB and my mom is bb. Therefore I am Bb Dh is BB
Jason is Bb or BB
either way= brown eyes
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I just realized how that must have sounded! loL!!!! I wasn't trying to undermine you or anything... I jsut wanted to make sure all was understood. I actually PASSED biology...with a 53!!!
Ick. Now I look like a science moron! rofl!!
