Extreme Home Makeover was in Louisville
My2Beauties wrote: The family gets to come home today, supposedly it's a 2 million dollar home for this boy who was born with no eyes and he can not straighten his limbs, he is in the University of Louisville's marching band but is in a wheelchair, so his dad pushes him into every single formation. Wonderful story!

lisar replied: I love that show, especially cause they puck the families that really need the help
Calimama replied: That's awesome. I love that show too!
holley79 replied: Oh that show always makes me bawl like a baby. It's such a wonderful show!
lovemy2 replied: I love that show as well but am always left to wonder after how these families are able to maintain the homes financially - I mean they take these homes that the families are unable to afford to renovate, etc. and make them into these million dollar homes that must come with a pretty high price tag to maintain? How do they do it??? I am sure it is all considered - or at least I hope so - it is always such deserving people and I would hate to think any of them ever lost it cause they couldn't afford it....
My2Beauties replied: Actually there was a debate on the forum in the newspaper about that, if you look at the comments and click view all comments under the story some people talk about that....supposedly the show does something about leasing the property or something and no taxes are owed, also because pretty much everything is donated that excuses certain tax liability.
grapfruit replied: What about Homeowners insurance? Since it goes by Replacement (dwelling cost) I can imagine this might be high. Especially since 95%+ insurance companies use a Credit Based Insurance score to credit or add premium to the base rate...I can imagine some of these families have poor credit due to lots of medical bills and whatnot.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: man if I had a 2 million dollar home I'd sell it.
momofone replied: I like that show the stories always make me cry. I think its really touching what Ty does for the needy.
stella6979 replied: The one thing I can't stand about Ty is how much emphasis he puts on the family's tradegy. For example, one family had a Mother who died of Cancer and I swear Ty must have mentioned it about a hundred times and not just to the cameras but to the family as well. Sometimes I just want to tell him "Duh, I think they know they've lost their Mom/Wife to Cancer, why do you have to keep pouring that salt in their wounds?" I understand the whole "dramatic" effect, but sometimes I think the feelings of these families should come first.
luvmykids replied: I know on some episodes the community has raised the money to pay off the original mortgage. I honestly think they consider these things, I doubt they would leave a family worse off than they were before.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Not to mention the increased cost of electricity and heating and etc. because the house is larger. I've always wondered myself how they manage since it seems a lot of these families are just barely scraping by.
Kentuckychick replied: I have seen this family several times on the news... they are truly amazing! I simply can't imagine life without sight, and I really can't imagine that coupled with loss of movement. He has come such a long way in his life, and beaten all the odds placed against him. It's a beautiful story.
I think the thing that gets me most though is the relationship he has with his father. His dad is with him at ALL times at school and on the marching band. He is his son's eyes. He goes to the university with him during the day and helps him in his classes, then he goes to practices with him and then he goes to work in the evenings. He gets something like 3-4 hours of sleep each night. I think he's the definition of how far a parent is willing to go for their child.
It's a great honor. As far as the price of the home, I didn't get the impression that they were poor to begin with... they just need a little help with the constant struggle (the father needs to sleep when he's home) and I'm sure the son needs a way to move throughout the home. When they say a 2 million dollar home, I have to wonder how much of that cost went into making the home a safe and proper place for the son. I do often feel like they go to extremes... but it is called "Extreme" home makeover.
