I was out on the porch with Lauren just now and I was keeping a close eye on the 5-6 foot gator that's been basking in our back yard lately. Then I noticed a pecular looking stick in the pond so I got out the binoculars and it's a baby gator. Probably 2 feet max.
Should be fun watching him/her grow up. I can't wait to pick K up from school today & show her. She will think it's totally cool.
Calimama replied: How cute!.... as long as it's a safe distance away.
sparkys2boys replied: awwww or ekkkkkk???? A gator???? OMG!!!!!!! I would be freaking out right now.. lol.. i'm from Canada can ya tell.. I have chimpmunks..lol!!!
Boys r us replied: Very cool...as long as they stay in the "binocular range"
gr33n3y3z replied: oh cool can you take a pic and show us lol
kit_kats_mom replied: I would but he's on the other side of the pond and he really is small. It would just look like a stick in the water. If he ever gets close enough to our house, or out of the water, I'll snap a pic for you. In the meantime, here's the 5-6 footer in our backyard right now.
Boys r us replied: Crazzzzzzzzzzzyyyyyyy!
coasterqueen replied: It is cute, but I'd have to say you couldn't pay me millions to live near gators.
CantWait replied: That's just friken nutts girl
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Gator? As in ALLIGATOR???? Scary! I guess we get bears here, but that would freak me out! Seeing a baby though sounds cool! I know my kids would love that!
redchief replied: Biggest things we have are skunks and feral cats. Cool pic!
gr33n3y3z replied: WoW that is big Thank you for showing the pic Ed and I maybe going to Flordia in March its up in the air but maybe I will get to see one then
Ed you forgot the Dolphins in the summer
cameragirl21 replied: awww, baby alligators are very cute, especially when they're really tiny, like 6 inches or so long. I once cornered a large alligator and got close enough to touch it but that was a "do not try this at home" moment and I don't recommend it to anyone. I wish we had bears here, I'm jealous, Rae. One time when my friend and I went on our annual hike to the Everglades, we saw a Florida panther and I wanted to get out of the car (this was as we were driving away in the car) and touch it but she freaked out and insisted she didn't want to watch it eat me, etc. You're lucky the gators are close enough that you get to see them everyday, Cary, the thing is, I bet you can't have dogs in your neighborhood...at least not out running loose, eh...?
mom21kid2dogs replied: YIKES!!!
C&K*s Mommie replied: how neat.
MyLuvBugs replied: Holy WOW! I can't believe you have aligators in your backyard like that. Just amazes me.
luvbug00 replied: awwwwwwww
DillsMommy replied: In your back yard!?! That's kinda scary. I bet the baby one's cute though.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Awwwwww
A&A'smommy replied: awwwwww my butt lol
quinnandjacob'smom replied: Wow, an alligator? I had 2 deer living in my backyard one winter and I thought that was pretty crazy lol! Enjoy your new "pet!"
MomToJade&Jordan replied: You just let all of us Floridians know where we have to go to see you guys.
I've actually pet a baby alligator. Can't remember where, but it was probably at one of the little zoos in Naples, Florida. That guy in the picture is a baby compared to some I've seen along Alligator Alley. For those of you who have never been to South Florida Alligator Alley is the name given to the stretch of I75 that lies between Naples and Miami. It cuts through the Everglades. In the winter during the afternoon you can see all sorts of them basking in the sun along that road. I think the biggest one I've seen out there was at least 15 feet long. They are amazing creatures and I always look forward to that road trip when I get the chance to take it.
I hope K got to see the baby one Cary. Jade would be just tickled if she got to see him.
PrairieMom replied: I would have Animal control on speed dial if I had Gators in my back yard!
