Ethan's First Appt

He has a clogged tear duct that is infected. It was so sad to watch them squeeze that stuff out of his eye. He went ahead and put him on an antibiotic until the culture comes back. I also voiced my concerns about the acid reflux. He agrees that Ethan has it. It is mild however b/c he is not fussing or spitting up. He said it will peak about the 4th month. He also suggested Mylanta if Ethan seems fussy or uncomfortable and to hold him upright for up to an hour after feedings. I am praying it stays under control.

On a good note, he is back up to his birth weight (8lbs 2 oz) and is in the 50th percentile all the way around. He's just the average Joe! His ped said he is very healthy and happy! That's my boy!!

Julie (jem0622) replied: Glad they waited on doing anything to him. Sorry about the eye. Nathan (4) had a blocked tear duct and we went through months of meds and finally he had surgery to correct it at 10 mos. If it doesn't clear up in a few months then please urge your pediatrician to give you a referral to a pediatric opthamologist. When we finally saw our specialist he said we never should have had to wait so long for a referral to clear it up.

coasterqueen replied: Sounds like good stats to me Kylie had the plugged duct thing but went away around 6 months I think, it was a mess before that though. UGH!

Glad the reflux isn't too terrible and that they are going to wait to see what happens with it.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: That's fantastic! Don't worry about the Tear Duct, my DS had this and he had to have it probed. He was on antibiotics all the time before the tear duct probing. He had that done at 8mths and again at 20mths but has had no problems since!
