Ethan's Doctor called last night....
Maddie&EthansMom wrote: The last time we were there (for his diarrhea episode) he checked his Hydrocele b/c I told him it had changed. Sure enough, it is a hernia. He suggested I make an appt with the urologist, but he wanted to talk to him first. So, he called last night to tell me he spoke with the urologist (Dr. Strand). He said we need to get Ethan in to see Dr Strand next week that this doesn't need to wait. He said it could get worse. Okay, so does he mean my baby is going to have to have surgery NOW?????? He is only 8 months old!!! Oh God get me through this! I'm freaking out. I completely trust Dr Strand and Dr Nale (his ped) I really feel they are some of the best in their field. I genuinely like them both, but I still don't want Ethan to have this surgery. He will have to be put under and I keep thinking of everything that could go wrong. When it comes to me going in for surgery or a procedure, I never think twice about it, but one of my babies... I can't handle this.
I will let you know what Dr Strand says. We will go in on Tuesday or Weds I'm sure.
amynicole21 replied: Oh no... I hope he doesn't have to get the surgery! Poor Ethan! Hang in there, sweetie! I'm sure everything is going to turn out just fine.
ediep replied: oh no! Hang in there, I know he is going to be fine!
Josie83 replied: I'm really sorry to hear this Aimee. I really hope that he doesn't have to have surgery. Poor little thing. You and ethan are in my thoughts and prayers, we're all here for you xx
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Aimee try not to worry, I'm sure everything will be okay! My friends son had a hernia repaired at around the same age that Ethan is and he came through the surgery fine (and this is Thunder Bay)! Also my son Spencer had his tear ducts probed when he was 8mths old, he had a blocked tear duct and they had to put him under! I know you will still worry, just thought I'd give you some positives! Let us know what the surgeon says!
Kaitlin'smom replied: I hope he does not need surgery, hang in there mom
A&A'smommy replied: ((((BIG HUGS))))) I hope he doesn't have to have surgery, I will keep him and the docters in my prayers (so they will use their VERY best judgment!)
maestra replied: I hope he doesn't need surgery too!
Jaci has an umbilical hernia, but it's not bad enough to need surgery. But we didn't know that until she was 2 (they wait to see if the space will come together on it's own for those). I worried so much about her having surgery- so I know how you feel.
MomToMany replied: Hugs Aimee! I really hope he doesn't need surgery. I was in your spot before with Logan. He needed surgery for his hernias when he was 3 months old. Now, I don't remember much about that since it was 11 years ago, but I know I was so freaked out about it, and my X-MIL kept blaming it on me. So you can imagine how bad I felt, thinking it was something I did that caused that.
He still has scars from it. He didn't have any complications, and was perfectly happy and healthy after that. Does Ethan cry alot, and does his scrotum swell up when he cries? That's what happened to Logan all the time since birth. We'd bring him in, and they always said it would heal up on its own. But it never did, so we brought him to a different clinic all together, and they said he needed surghery right away. I was so freaked out, and remember I was 16 at the time. I did EVERYTHING the Dr. said to do, and never left his side. I was crying most of the time, and the Dr. told me it wasn't my fault, which made me hate that witch of a MIL even more.
I'm praying for Ethan, and I hope he doesn't need surgery. I'm always here if you want to talk.
Good luck !
kimberley replied: omg! i am so sorry to hear this! i hope and pray he does not need the surgery! my thoughts are with you guys
Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Thank you Mollie. I remembered you saying that you had been through it before. I am so scared for him. I know it is nothing I did. He has had it since birth. Scotty (DH) also had a hernia, but he got it later in life and had the surgery when he was 8. Ethan doesn't cry an awful lot....I would say pretty normal for a baby. It doesn't seem to bother him, but it does swell on occasion. I know he will have to have surgery. The doctor made it pretty clear. Like Scotty said, it doesn't really matter if he has it now or when he is 10....he is still our baby and it is still going to make us sad.
Thank ya'll for being here for me. It helps to know I have you guys praying for us. He will be fine. He is in good hands. Jessica I appreciate you praying for the doctors, too.
I will let you know what comes of the appt this week.
jdkjd replied: My DH had to have two hernia surgeries when he was a baby. It's a lot more common than you think and the surgeons will have a ton of experience.
He'll be in good hands I'm sure. But I'll keep him and all of your family in my thoughts as you go through this. I'm sure I would be a wreck!
jcc64 replied: Telling you it is a pretty routine operation for a urologist is probably of small comfort to you right now. No one wants to hear that surgery is a possibility for their child. But take solace in the fact that it is a treatable condition, and while it will undoubtedly be traumatic for you as his parents, I'm certain he will come through it just fine with no lasting memories. My brother had this surgery(and others) as an infant, and that was over 30 yrs ago, and he did just fine. Try to stay calm, and we're here when you're not feeling so strong.
Jamison'smama replied: Aimee, your family is in my prayers!
Boys r us replied: ((HUGS))) I know how nerve racking that must be!! I know there is nothing I can say to ease our mind or take away your worry..so ust know that we're here for you and I'll be thinking of you and little Ethan and pray for the best outcome no matter what the dr's decide!
MommyToAshley replied: I am sorry, I know it must be scarey for you. It will probably be harder for you than it will be for Ethan, but it will be ok.
P&PT's!
Keep us posted.
DansMom replied: I just want to send hugs and comfort---we're here if you need us!
coasterqueen replied: P&pt's coming your way Aimee! I hope he doesn't need the surgery.
My2Beauties replied: HUGS to you I know this is scary. When Hanna was 6 months old she had had 8 ear infections already and antibiotics weren't helping her anymore the doctor told me that she needed tubes in her ears and I was scared to death that they were going to put her under. She came through just fine. I know this may not offer much solace but just to know that someone has had to put their child under too. It sounds like it's pretty common from others posts.
My fiance's cousin and his wife had to have surgery for their premie at about 2 months old for a hernia (I believe it was) something with his stomach I know and he has a little scar but he has been fine ever since and no complications from the surgery!!!
My thoughts are with you, Ethan, and the rest of your family. Keep us posted and everything will be just fine!
