Endometrial Ablation?

I found out a few months back that I had fibroids. Well, they are continuing to grow and causing a lot of problems such as cramping and heavy bleeding (sorry tmi). But, the biggest problem is that they have grown through the endometrium lining and are growing on the outside of my uterus. The problem with this is that when AF shows up, the tissue on the outside shed/bleed just like the inside of the uterus and that blood has no where to go (so it's like you are bleeding internally). This is behind some of the other symptoms and problems I have been having.

I saw my OB yesterday. The original plan was to treat the fibroids with birth control pills as the estrogen shrinks the fibroids. But, I had to hold off on those when they found the suspicious spot on my mammogram. And, since it came back that I had fibrocystic changes in my right breast, I can't take birth control. He discussed a couple of different options. One being a hysterectomy and the other being Endometrial Ablation. The ablation is basically where they sear the inside of your uterus. So, just wondering if anyone has any experience with it?

gr33n3y3z replied: I was just talking to someone about this and they had it done they said it wasnt that bad and didnt hurt after because that was one of my Dr's choices for me but I'm holding off on it to see if my flow strightens out on its own.

mom21kid2dogs replied: If I'm recalling the term correctly, it's the surgery where they insert a balloon type apparatus and super heat it to melt away some of the fibriods and uterine wall lining, right? If so, I had a co worker who had it done several years ago with wonderful results. She totally avoided a hysterectomy with the surgery. I remember she wasn't off work very long at all~under a week, I think. Compared to a hysterectomy, it's a piece of cake, that's for sure!
Good luck with whichever you decide. Fibroids are such a painful (not to mention annoying) condition.

I've never heard of this procedure, so I don't know what advice I could give you on that. I think the best thing you can do is talk to you doctor and get a lot of information. It could be a good thing. If I had know what I would be still dealing with I would have had the hysto. However, I am still loads better than I was two years ago. I had trouble with the procedure, but that was the local machine and not the procedure in general. Ok so I was just typing more than I really want to just TMI. I will PM you. It is still General anesthesia, it is still surgery but the recovery externally is a lot better than a hysterectomy they tell me. But it is a very bad burn to the inside of your body and you must heal from that, it does take alot of strength to heal from that type of burn.

I don't know enough medical stuff to know but I don't think it helps with endometrial lining in other areas besides the uterus. And with fibroids, I would research this more.

jcc64 replied: My bff had it done several years ago b/c of endometriosis. She was having a really hard time getting pg. She had the procedure, and got pg on her first try after the procedure. Went on to have another baby 15 months later. I'm going to be honest, Dee Dee, she said it was a pretty painful procedure, but it sure beats having a hysterectomy. I hope your problems clear up soon, hon!

danahas4monkeys replied: That was one of the options given to me instead of the hysterectomy but decided since we were done having kids just to go with the laproscopic hysterectomy. And plus they said the problems could still come back, I am 9 days out of the hysterectomy and feeling great! good luck to you
