Ed - Lisa's post surgical updates

CantWait wrote: How is Lisa doing??? I miss her. hug.gif

redchief replied: Thank you, Marie. You all are so kind. She'll be so happy that so many are praying and pulling for her.

Now, the bad news. Lisa had a really terrible night and a bad day. Her nausea wouldn't calm down with medication and she's not able to hold anything down. She has a small bowel obstruction, which the doctor called normal after the extent of her surgery. I spent the day with her, trying to give her comfort that I couldn't. I know she appreciated my efforts, but I just wish I could switch places with her. We're hoping for a better day tomorrow.

I'm sorry it took so long for me to get online today. It's been tough finding time to get everything done around here. I miss her too. I'll update you tomorrow, and thanks again. smile.gif

redchief replied: HI everyone. She's been asking about you all, too. She's having a better day today, outlook-wise. We won't know if the bowel obstruction is clear until she goes down for x-rays later. I don't have much time... I'm between visits while others are in seeing her right now. Again, I wanted to thank everyone for being so caring and supportive. hug.gif wub.gif

redchief replied: Hi everyone. It's 10:04 PM and I just got back from giving my parents an update. Lisa had a much better day today. Her outlook is almost normal, stubborn, tough Lisa. Man, I missed that these last few days! Her infection control doctor said they got her bad bacteria identified and have tailored her antibiotics toward it so as not to kill off all of her good bacteria. She is tolerating treatment much better and her pain is under control without pain killers <-- I think much of that is simply her stubborn nature.

She told a nurse tonight she'd rather go through 400 childbirths than have to go through anything like this again. She smiled today; first time I saw that this week. And Katie got to spend quite a bit of time with her. I think that was good for both of them. She moved her bowels a little, and we're hopeful the blockage is moving. We'll know better tomorrow after another x-ray series. For the time being she has a private room, which allowed us to have the whole family up with her. The hospital staff is being extremely supportive of allowing all of us to be on the floor with her. I think they realize she needs her family to feel complete.

Anyway, I know you've all been waiting for good news, and I'm glad I can finally deliver some. I brought pages of well wishes to the hospital today and she read everything. I"m going to print her some more tomorrow before I head over. She misses you all. Thanks so much to all of you!

BAC'sMom replied: Good news Ed. Tell her I am thinking of her. hug.gif

amymom replied: Thanks for the update Ed. Continued prayers for Lisa, you and the kids! I had not told Mary Beth about Lisa's surgery, but will so she can send Katie a note later today. Lots of love sent to Lisa wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif hug.gif

CantWait replied: Glad things are looking better, and that you're all able to see her. I can't imagine sitting in a hospital room a lone for days. hug.gif hug.gif

Jamison'smama replied: So glad to hear things are looking up and she is getting back to her old self. I've been thinking of her...hugs to you both~ hug.gif

redchief replied: Hello everyone. Lisa says hello, too. smile.gif

I was there for both her surgeon and infection control doctor visits today. The surgeon said that if she continues to progress, they may be able to let her go home on Wednesday. The x-ray showed continued blockage and the doc said the bowel movement she had was simply what the suppository loosened from her rectum (sorry if that was TMI). The good news is that though the blockage was still there, it appears to be moving a little. She was taken off IV fluids today and the doctor increased her diet to unrestricted liquid in hopes it will get things down there woke up again.

The infection control doc has authorized and Lisa consented to installation of a pic line. She'll have to continue on IV antibiotics after she comes home so the pic is necessary. On the up side, her sense of humor remains intact. Her eight month pregnant friend came over to visit today and they spent a good deal of time "comparing" bellies. laugh.gif

My2Beauties replied: I hope she gets better! hug.gif
