Ear Piercing question
mckayleesmom wrote: The other day Mckaylee saw a little girl ...maybe around 5 that not only had her ears pierced, but she had them done twice. Mckaylee has now been mentioning wanting it done....I personally thought it looked cute because the little girl only had small studs in...and it just looked cute on her. I wouldn't let Mckaylee any time soon because hers are so new right now....But Im thinking if she mentions it in a year or so...maybe.....Would you let your child do it if they expressed the want? Would people think I was a crazy parent for letting her have a second set so soon? She does take care of hers really good right now....
grandma replied: I worked with a girl once that had about 6 in each ear. She took good care of them and wore cute studs, but to me it was unprofessional. If I were you I would wait until she was atleast in her teens for additional piercings.
Teesa®© replied: We just had our DD's done for the holidays. She's 6, but if she wanted another set in a years time, we'd let her - as long as her ears are big enough to hold two sets. She'd been begging to have hers done for about a year or so. She was really good at turning them regularly and often had to remind ME that they needed to be cleaned, lol.
DS wanted to get his done when DD did, but we told him no because if she had a problem with hers, or if he did, it would be easier to deal with just one child at a time. We might get his done for his birthday if he still wants to.
grandma replied: Do boys still get one done or has it changed to two now?
Anthony275 replied: grandma, a lot of boys in my school have two but some do get one still
Hillbilly Housewife replied: having several in my own ears, I'd be hard pressed to say no to my kids if they asked... however dress code at school specifies only one earring, in the earLOBE. And NONE for boys.
I hardly ever wear earrings, but I can have 5 in one ear and 4 int he other. I've also had my nose, lebret, tongue and belly button pierced. yeah, I was one of those.
Jackie012007 replied: MAN, I am SCREWED if Carly ever has interest in piercings!! Try saying no when you have your nose and nipples done, used to have your belly button done and have 5 in one ear and 6 in the other!!!
Carl had his cartilage done in one ear but it got horribly infected and he took it out. My dad has his ear pierced and there is a handgun earring in it - lol yeah we are hick!
I got my second holes done when I was 13 - 3rd when I was 15 and my cartilage done on my graduation day. Then the others were done in college. I dunno if I would let Carly get her second hole or not! SO basically this post is pointless, lol, sorry!
Teesa®© replied: Grandma, since my son is still young, he's only getting one in one ear. When he's a teen, well, then it's up to him, I doubt I could stop him then, lol. Maybe if I tell him the meanings behind them, he'll think twice.
As a multiple pierced person myself - and even having a corset piercing for a while, I have to agree with Jackie and Hillbilly - how can I say No?
luvbug00 replied: TBH i think two would look silly on anyone under 13. That's just my opinion.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: If you're refferring to "only homosexuals get two", that's no longer valid a statement, made untrue by the horror of fashion. The straightest of straight men get two now, too, if they so choose...
grandma replied: Use to be, it was the ear they got pierced that met they were homosexual. I can't remember if it was right or left...I'm sure my son's would know. But when they were teenagers boys didn't get both ears pierced, only one. Gosh, things have changed so much. I'm sure only you guys know what's normal and what's not. When I got my ears pierced the doctor was drunk, my mom later told me that. Anyhow my one hole was really low and later on I had it surgically closed and then redone, by a plastic surgeon. I had two holes in each ear for awhile but then let the top ones close. My son's now have piercings and tattoo's, I still love them...lol Oh and my husband has two piercings in one ear.
Jackie012007 replied: wow a corset piercing??? where and how did that feel?
jeeze and I thought I was a bada** for getting my nipples done!!
BAC'sMom replied: I have multi-pierced ears but I did that when I was older. No way I would let my daughter get pierced again till she is much older.
:.Mrs_Mommy.: replied: I got Lily's ears done just before Kindergarten. If she wanted another set I would have to talk to DH but I have a feeling he would say no.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Kaitlin has one in each ear if she wants more she can wait till she is older, i did not get the 2nd till I was out on my own. Its not that I would say no its I would say when your older.
austins mom replied: I think you should let her. As long as shes young you can still make sure that she wears the little studs.
TrulyBlessed replied: I think she would look beautiful with a second set. My oldest daughter, Megan got her ears pierced when she was 8 yrs old. My youngest is 4 and I haven't pierced her ears yet because I want it to be her decision. If Megan wanted a second set I would let her get a second set now.
holley79 replied: I don't know. I'm sure it's cute though.
Teesa®© replied: It's pretty expensive to get it done, fortunately, I had it done for free because my nephew did it for me.
I'd seen pictures on the internet of people who'd had it done and I thought it looked so kewl. I told hubby I wanted it done and that he'd have to clean it for me EVERY day. After a couple months of him assuring me he would, I had my nephew do my back. Two days later I had to rip them all out because hubby didn't remember ONCE to clean it
They're not like any other type of earing [maybe ones in personal spots, I don't know] as they get infected quite easily and have to be done perfectly or you could end up with really narsty scars. You have to be WAY more careful with them. I'm kinda glad in a way that I did have to rip them out because it was a spur of the moment thing for me to do and all I had to pierce with was safety pins . I'll tell ya, you just never lived life until you've had to pull 8 safety pins out of your own back, LOL
Next time I have it done, I'm going to have my nephew put them in lower so I can just clean it myself
kimberley replied: i wouldn't but that's just me. i don't think at 5 kids are capable of making permanent decisions about holes in their body... just like i don't think tatts before 18 are a good idea either... but again, that is just me.
