ok this is going to be gross just to warn you.

I read an article about a guy who had a swelling in his tongue that jut kept getting bigger and bigger until he finally went to the dr. The dr could not find anything really wrong and had determinged that is was a fluid build up or something so they made an incision only to discover that hundreds of baby spiders came pouring out. Apparently a spider had laid eggs and they had incubated in this guys tongue and then hatched.

oh, yeah, those things typically happen in the Amazon. this guy in the article was probably either traveling in South America or perhaps in one of the Southern States where certain Amazonian life has accidentally been imported and then thrived.
there is something called a botfly...you know how a fly larva is a maggot, well, this is a big fly and it makes a big maggot and it lays eggs under a person's skin and then the skin gets this big sore and someone has to cut it open and a huge maggot crawls out. also, in the Amazon mosquitos lay eggs under people's skin and then the maggots climb out...problem is, they have to chew through the skin to get out so it can be painful and nasty, in addition to being gross.
i've never heard the spider story but i'm guessing it was the same kind of spider...it stuck its proboscis into the guy's tongue and laid the eggs...if he hadn't gone to the doctor to excise it then it would have probably burst on its own and all the spiders would pop out and possibly some would go down his throat.
just fyi, this is a very unlikely occurrence here in the USA and i bet that guy had been traveling in South America or was in contact with the luggage of someone who had been down there...these are Amazonian insects, they don't live here.

just so you know, i've seen what it looks like before and it's not just a swelling, it's actually more like an abcess, it feels hard, i mean not rock hard but you can feel the firmness of it, it's almost like a tumor above the skin. it's nothing like simple swelling due to a split lip.
i really hope your day gets better btw, as you can see, i'm not easily grossed out, the Amazon is my dream vacation!
