luvmykids wrote: What do you use for flea/tick/heartworm? I was just asking the vet last week and tonight we found a tick in Bogie's ear I'd put off what the vet recommended because it is ridiculously expensive, I think it's called Revolution, it's a once a month, year round flea/tick/heartworm triple action thing but I'm hoping there is something less expensive since I have three dogs and two of them are very, very heavy when you're doing the based-on-weight thing.
In NM it wasn't that bad since it's so dry, we just used the Hartz, but I've been warned that we won't be getting off that easy here.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Honestly, we don't use anything and have never had so much as a single flea or tick. My dog is mainly an indoor dog though.
my2monkeyboys replied: We use Advantix on Charlie. It's about $14 a month for his size, but that doesn't include his heartworm pills. We get fleas really bad around here - so much so that January was the only month this year that we didn't have to use the pill.
coasterqueen replied: We don't have a dog, but we use Frontline (I think is what it's called) on our cats and I know they have a version for dogs. We live near woods and the river, so we get a TON of ticks . ICK!!! And our cat is lovely about coming in the house, then the ticks crawl off of her, crawl on to our dark couch so you can't see them or into our bed and I find them. I HATE TICKS!!!! So Frontline works great for us.
BAC'sMom replied: We use Interceptor for heartworms and Comfortis for fleas. They are both in a pill form. I tried Advanitx but with Khloe’s skin allergies it caused more problems. It runs us less than $25 bucks a month. Which is a heck of a lot cheaper than it would be to treat a case of heartworms or a flea outbreak.
mom21kid2dogs replied: We use Frontline Plus for Parker. I don't use it during the winter months but it is tick season in Ohio (I found 2 last week during head checks on kids heads )so I started him again last week. I'll put it on him until November. Parker is allergic to fleas so we always treat him.
A&A'smommy replied: I forgot what its called but its a pill that you use once a month I think its just for fleas though. We have fleas really REALLY bad and this pill WORKS. Its only about 12 dollars a pill
luvmykids replied: That has become my new paranoia
~Roo'sMama~ replied: We used Advantix last year for fleas and ticks. I can't remember if we did anything for heartworm last year or not... probably not because here you have to bring them in and get them checked before they'll give you the pills and we were too broke to pay the vet's fees plus pay for all the pills. This year we'll definitely be doing either Advantix or Frontline.
DVFlyer replied: Don't have ticks out here (thank God... my skin is crawling thinking about the time I got on in my ear as a kid), but we do have fleas.
We use the mainstream brands.... Advantage etc..
Boo&BugsMom replied: We get some tick/flea/mosquito stuff over the counter at Walmart and put it on Lucy's back. Once a month we do it. I have to take her to the vet this summer to get her some heartworm stuff. Last year before we adopted her she got a shot that prevents heartworm for a year so she's suppose to be good until August. BUT, someone had told me they discontinued the shot so now I'm a bit confused.
We get ticks around here, but not as bad in the city as it is in the country. As long as you aren't in long grass and near a ton of pine tress you are usually safe.
My3LilMonkeys replied: We had a real bad tick season last summer and Madison picked up one in our yard - I found it the next day when I was combing her hair. It was stuck on the back of her ear.
aspenblue1 replied: We use advantix and heartguard.
Calimama replied: We use interceptor flavor tabs for heartworm (she gets it once a month) and nothing for fleas. She doesn't have any but I should probably find something.
HuskerMom replied: We used Heartguard and it worked really well.
All this talk of ticks has me paranoid now. I HATE ticks!
luvmykids replied: Oh YUCK, and with my luck it WILL happen DH had one on him the other day...I guess I'm just going to have to plan head to toe tick checks for everyone this summer
mom21kid2dogs replied: If you live in the land of the ticks , here's something you might want to consider purchasing. They remove ticks like nobody's business. We use them in the schools. http://www.tickedoff.com/ You can use them on pets and people. They remove a tick like nobody's business!
luvmykids replied: I'm ordering one, thank you!!!
