Does anyone here Cloth Diaper?

Jackie012007 wrote: I'm bored and snowed in (ugh a foot and a half in the past 36 hours) so I was just googling around and came on the topic of cloth diapers. I kinda wanted to CD with Carly but the initial expense and lack of a washing machine scared me away. Oh yeah and Carl said HECK NO I'm not playing in poop!!! lol

I was wondering if anyone here CD's?

PrairieMom replied: rolling_smile.gif
Should I just get the debate out of the way? rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif
I do not, I am not a horrible mother because of that, I am not destroying the environment, because I am not "wasting" water and electricity by washing all those diapers.

with my next one I want to,
because people that DD are horrible monsters that don't care about the environment.

sparkys2boys replied: Once again.. nope not me..lol!!! It was WAY to convient to go and buy diapers and not have to worry over it.

sparkys2boys replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif That cracked me up!!

PrairieMom replied:
oh... you KNOW its gonna go there. rolleyes.gif rolling_smile.gif

Calimama replied:
You are too hilarious for words. emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

sparkys2boys replied:
I totally know it!! That's why I just kinda said my bit and left it!! I was SOOOOOOOOOO thinking the same though rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

grandma replied:
Tara - I shouldn't really talk to you since you don't CD, but my giggle was interuppted becuz I don't know what DP stands for; disposable pants?......lol Please help an old lady out here emlaugh.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: I know quite a bit about it, though not as much as those who actually do it - I know Mollie (mommy to a bunch) does and I think there's at least a few others.

I considered it and ultimately decided against it, mainly because I can't keep up with my laundry as it is!

PrairieMom replied:
disposable diapers. Or disposies. you are right, it should read DD, but in my rush to be a smart A$$ I had a typo. if a Mod wants to fix it so I don't look like an idiot... laugh.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: rolling_smile.gif Tara, you crack me up.

Jackie if you want information on it, I'm certain Mollie will be happy to oblige! thumb.gif She makes her own diapers even. She's our resident CD expert. happy.gif

Jackie012007 replied: oh jeeze - okay here's the POST DISCLAIMER:

don't argue about which is better because that is just stupid and a waste of time!

k better?? rolleyes.gif tongue.gif

PrairieMom replied: seriously, I really DO want to CD my next. (IF I get a next... dry.gif ) I looked into it with Al, but it was way to spendy for us at the time.

PrairieMom replied:

sparkys2boys replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif You a smarta$$.. I would have never thought tongue.gif

Anthony275 replied: id never put my kids in cloth diapers, disposable diapers arent doing good for our environment, eh who cares we all die anyway

grandma replied:
If I remember correctly I CD'd my first son, it's way over-rated!

Jackie012007 replied: my parents were APPALLED when I said I wasn't going to CD. I guess they did with me, but they got a gift of free cloth diapering service for 2 years! I was like YEAH WHATEVER you didn't have to clean them!!! rolling_smile.gif

mommy~to~a~bunch replied: I use cloth diapers, what exactly do you want to know?

I love it; it's like a hobby of mine. It's not as gross & disgusting as most people think.

Jackie012007 replied:
I was just curious - is it something you need to have a washer and dryer in the house for? I live in an apartment and we do laundry at the laundromat once a week or so. I am also soooo incredibly confused by the different types and what one is easiest or best or how to do it...

okay basically I just have no idea! rolling_smile.gif Fill me in, OHHH CD WISE ONE!!! emlaugh.gif

luvmykids replied: OMG Tara you have got me ROFLOL emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

I considered it, especially with the twins, but for many different reasons chose not to.

PrairieMom replied: I know I was just confused by all the different types, and the ones with the insert things wacko.gif I was to overwhelmed by the whole ting to even try it. BUT, Miss Mollie has pulled me over to the "dark side" with nursing, and with CD, hopefully there will be support and info available when the time comes.

There was a ton of info on here from Mollie before, back when she was Momtomany.

PrairieMom replied:
thankyou Aimee. blush.gif wink.gif

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
It's possible to use a laundromat & CD too. I don't know exactly how it's done as I've never washed any there, but other moms on my diapering board have.

Here's a nifty little chart that tells you about the diferent types:
http://www.diaperjungle.com/cloth-diaper-types.html

I, personally, use prefolds and pockets mainly, with a few fitteds and wool soakers for night. I love using pins on the prefolds, but Abby (14 month) is so wiggly now, so I use a Snappi.

The easiest to use are All-In-Ones (AIO's, for short). Theya re just like a disposable, except washable. The downside is that they are usually the most expensive.

Hope that helps a little LOL.

PrairieMom replied:
see, all i hear is jibberish. like you are speaking a totally different language. rolleyes.gif rolling_smile.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I love huggies......but Johnny cant wear a disposable without getting a horrible open sore rash. We mainly use pocket diapers (waterproof outer material, and moisture wicking interior, then you decide what to use for absorbency) started with Fuzzi Bunz then went to Bum Genius because they are one sized....but I have actually found I hate velcro becasue it ends up sticking to everything in the wash....and the snaps are every bit as fast.

We also use wool....mostly becasue I love teh pants biggrin.gif so with those a plain ol cotton snap on diaper and the wool works to cover it so no kind of plasticy waterproof material is needed

the first we used...and now use again http://motherofeden.com/fuzzi-bunz-pocket-diapers.php
the one size...that i really like...except for the velcro http://www.bumgenius.com/one-size.php
the plain cotton one http://mother-ease.com/database/scripts/st...c31e5713&Loc=US

and last Johnny in his St. Paddy's day pants

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Have to add....
I was dragged into CD kicking and screaming. I have thrown up before when changing a diaper so the idea of having to deal with poop a second time was not appealing. I wont lie it is gross...but I will use flushable liners to help not have to deal with poop (note to self need more liners)
And I actually do better with teh laundry now because I don't forget and leave a load in for 4 days because I need to wash diapers my laundry is still horribly unruly but I don't remember anyone running out of essentials lately smile.gif

mommy~to~a~bunch replied: Awww, those longies are adorable on Johnny!! Did you make them? I hate velcro for the same reasons, plus Abby can undo them LOL. Snaps are much cleaner looking too.

Tara - here's a list of common CDing terms: http://www.naturesbabyblankets.com/files/1...ed/Glossary.pdf . It's not that hard once you get used to everything. It seems so overwhelming at first, but it becomes second nature.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Mollie I have made all of his wool...and my nieces....and a friends ds biggrin.gif

yes...he actually doesn't try to undo thembut becasue of his feeding tube we tend to limit access to his stomach (and therefore diaper area) if he can get to it he starts pulling on it and that CREEPS ME OUT!!!!!

mommy~to~a~bunch replied: thumb.gif You do awesome work Lisa! I hope I can get that good someday!

Is there a specific pattern you use? I'm still looking for one.

I'd be nervous about the feeding tube too ohmy.gif .

Calimama replied:
Oh man those are so cute!!!!

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: the patten is the sheepy pants pattern...then I decided when to do the yarn color changes and the shamrock was a duplicate stitch after I was done (which is why you can see black through it) also I am not terribly artistic so the 'drawing' in knit was challenging.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Lisa those are so adorable!!!! wub.gif You are awesome!! thumb.gif

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
I haven't heard of that pattern, might have to check it out. They still look awesome Lisa, you did a great job thumb.gif .

lovemy2 replied:
Its not about the pants - its all about that cute little heiny in them - I think Johnny is my next love wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

As for the CD thing - I wouldn't have the patience for it - and the way Dylan leaks through diapers I could only imagine the amount of laundry I would be doing and that would be a HORRIBLE waste of water rolleyes.gif

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
You'd probably have LESS leaks with cloth, and doing less laundry thumb.gif .

grandma replied:
lol - I should have mentioned, my first son came before disposable diapers were even an option..

ZandersMama replied: Not a chance! tongue.gif I do more laundry then i can keep up with now as it is! and the disposables are just so easy. I wish I had the patience but i just don't.

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
There's really nothing to it; it's not that hard at all. People have these preconceived notions about what it's like, and it's usually wrong.

If I can do it with 6 kids here, anyone can.
