Does anyone have any good (okay easy) play-doh - recipes?

Crystalina wrote: I'm tired of buying it. dry.gif Izabella came home from her last day of school with a big piece of play-doh she made at one of the party stations there. I called the mother who assisted in making it but she said she had an assistant who did most of the work and she only bagged up the finish product. She knows there was sand involved but that isn't much help. I've tried some online that I found last year but they didn't turn out right. I would like a recipe that someone has tried and can say yes, it works.

mummy2girls replied: What You Need:

* 1 c flour, sifted
* 1/2 c salt
* 3 T cooking oil
* 1 pkg Koolaid (unsweet)
* 1 c boiling water

What to do:

1. Mix together flour, salt, oil, and Kool-aid.
2. Add the cup of boiling water. Mix well.
3. Knead the mixture until it forms a soft dough.
4. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

Yep, I saw that episode too. Just use equal parts of all 3 ingredients and they can eat it when they're done. thumb.gif

Crystalina replied:
That sounds easy enough.
Two questions though:

Does it stay together pretty good and most importantly does the Kool-Aid stain?

Crystalina replied: DH is at the store now...where could he find the Cream of Tartar? I have no idea what that even is. blush.gif

He would come home with tarter sauce. emlaugh.gif

It's in the spice/baking section. It comes in a little jar.

Crystalina replied:
Thanks Mollie. I just had to Google a picture of it. rolling_smile.gif I'm so lame. rolleyes.gif What is it usually used for? I never heard of it.

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
I'm not exactly sure what it does, I just make sure I use it when the recipe calls for it blush.gif .

mummy2girls replied:
its very soft and stays together wonderfully! Your hands will get stained kneading it in and such but once it been sittign for a bit and such kids hands wont:) I use it for the dayhome kids and the smell of the dough is awesome!!!!

I make this kind all the time with the kids I nanny for and we LOVE it. I don't even bother to boil the water -- I just use warm straight out of the tap and it seems to make no difference (I've seen recipes that say to boil and recipes that don't mention it so I'm not sure if it matters.)

If you don't want your fingers to get stained do what I do and grab a large ziplock baggie and mix it mostly up in there. Once the koolaid is pretty well mixed in it doesn't stain at all. We've made about every color.

And if you keep it in a baggie in the fridge when the kids are done playing with it, it will last for a good while!
