Does anyone else.....

PascosGirl wrote: not get the fashion in Cosmo?? I consider myself pretty "stylish" but nothing in Cosmo ever looks good to me. I always think it looks silly. What do you all base your style preference on when choosing your wardrobe?

mammag replied: I usually go by real life fashion. If I see an outfit on someone that I like I'll try to remember it and replicate it. Sometimes I will pull pics out of mags to copy but it is never the runway type fashion.

The thing is, they put things on the stick skinny people and they look completely different when you try to put them on someone with a real body. When looking at those you really have to look at the individual pieces and think of how you could modify it to flatter your body.

That's like the girls who try to wear low cut pants because that is the style and then they have the rolls hanging out of the top of them. blink.gif You almost want to go up to them and say just because it is the fashion, doesn't mean everyone should be wearing it.

Then the stuff on the runway is just bizarre half of the time but people will pull ideas together to form a real life outfit.

kit_kats_mom replied: their fashion is ridiculous and would only look passably normal at a club in NYC or LA. tongue.gif

I usually look at a Talbots catalogue or get ideas from the moms in the parenting magazines I read. I generally live in shorts and tee shirts since I work from home though. If I had to pick a dream wardrobe, it would be from Talbots, Ann Taylor...that type of classic, well cut, well made stuff. I'm pretty boring. LOL

PascosGirl replied:
I agree. The normal person is not that thin. I am a size 5 and don't have a stick thin figure like them. I mean, I have a butt! lol

My favorite brands are Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and DKNY. They are trendy and if you catch them at the right time, you can get great deals on them.

PascosGirl replied:
I like Talbots. They have nice skirts and capris there!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: laugh.gif I can't even consider myself trendy. I wouldn't know what the fashions of today were if they came and bit me on the A$$! I watch that show What Not to Wear and although I do have 1 shirt that was one of the ones on the mannequin, alot of what I wear is in the NOT category!

ammommy replied: I like some of the ideas, then try to translate it into "real life". This spring is the exception. No one, no matter how thin and tall you are, needs to wear pleated western skirts or tight little Bermuda shorts rolleyes.gif I figure if the manequins and models look fat and unattractive, what am I going to look like? Really, who needs those pleats and extra material on the skirts? Have you seen the skinny minnie on the Old Navy commercial in the light blue shorts? They pull across her hips and make her look like she has a tummy!
I can usually find great ideas for shoes and handbags, though. Come to think of it, even shoes are so so this year. Looks like I picked a bad season to lose weight rolling_smile.gif

Boys r us replied: Every once in awhile there will be something cute in Cosmo..but I whole heartedly agree, most of the stuff in there is so eccentric and just not real life! I dress very trendy, but the only way any of my outfits would look like the cosmo outfits would be if I cut the top off of my pink prom dress and tied it like a tube top over top of my puke green sequenced tank top and couple that with my jeans and a mini skirt over top of them. Uhhh no thanks! LOL

PascosGirl replied:
I think the ideas for outfits are usually ok, I just mean the pics of the models and the weird clothes. I have a tweed coat that I pair with a nice tank and a pair of jeans with boots. It looks cute. However, they take tweed to a whole new level. Tweed skirts, shirts, etc. lol I hate when they have the models dressed in what looks like a nightgown. That just makes me laugh.

5littleladies replied: I don't get the fashion in most magazines. rolleyes.gif Not that it matters-I just wear what I'm comfortable in. Usually jeans and t-shirts. happy.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I always skip the fashion sections....my boobs don't fit in those clothes anyways.

mammag replied:
I was just telling my sister that the other day!!! laugh.gif

And you know she probably doesn't have an ounce of fat on her....I can't imagine how they would look on me.

A&A'smommy replied: lol I don't really read cosmo... should I though?

Josie83 replied: Gosh I would rather read one of my brother-in-laws car magazine than Cosmo or the like . . . hair and makeup, fine, I'll do it if I have to but I don't want to spend the rest of my time READING about it! ohmy.gifl: tongue.gif: laugh.gif xx

PascosGirl replied: I love reading Cosmo. I am a magazine reader though. I read about 10 - 15 per month. I read a lot of books too.

I like Cosmo for their hair and make up suggestions. They usually have pretty good tips. I am a part time dancer and do shows and other events so the tips are helpful. I don't have a make up artist, I do my own, so I need the advice!
