Do you think 7yo is too young?

amynicole21 wrote: My friends are going on an vacation to China in June and are taking their 7yo son with them. They make good money, but still, I don't think I'd cough up $2,000 to shlep a 7yo to China with me blink.gif Would you? Maybe I'm under-estimating a 7yo since I don't have one, but will he actually get anything out of a trip like this at that age?

Calimama replied: I would. I had been to Spain, England, and Japan by 7.. I had a great time and have many great memories from those trips. wink.gif

cameragirl21 replied: depends on the circumstances and what they hope to do on their trip. i have friends who bring their 7 year old (and younger) children on trips to Israel but i suppose that is somewhat different because it's a matter of culture and heritage...which is why i said it depends on why they're going to China.
idk if China is necessarily a good learning experience for kids...i'd say they'd get more out of Japan but again, idk their purposes, plus i haven't been to China. wink.gif

redplaydoh replied: I think a 7 yr old would get a lot out of the trip. He'd probably do better being WITH his parents for that time than without. We bought seats for our kids when visiting Switzerland before we moved here. My niece that came to Switzerland when she was 8 for our wedding still remembers a lot from that trip and she's 16 now.

moped replied:
Why wouldn't china be a learning experience????? - anywhere can be even if it is 10 minutes from your house.........

stella6979 replied: I think it's a great idea! Travelling is an awesome learning experience no matter where you go and the fact that he has an opportunity to go to China is awesome. I'm sure he'll remember that trip for a lifetime.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I think 7 yo is a great age for a trip anywhere. Of course if I were to only go once, I'd wait til my kids were older. It all just depends on if they are world travelers and expect to do a lot of traveling in this child's lifetime. Why wait? happy.gif

Maddie is almost seven and vividly remembers the trips we have taken in the past. She may not get out of it what we do, but she has her own memories of it. wub.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I somewhat agree with you Amy, but on the other hand, if I could afford to take my whole family on a big trip like that, I would. My parents sent me and my sister to Mexico City ALONE when I was about 8 and my sister was 11, maybe we were even a bit younger. Times have changed, but it was an amazing experience that I still remember to this day! smile.gif

Iluvmyboys replied: I would think a 7y.o would gain a lot of experience espically a trip to another country. We've been on many family vacations in the past (espically when the boys were 6 and 7) and the boys remember those trips really well. Its good from them to experience different countries. Even if they dont fully understand what is going on they'll always have the memories

moped replied: Having said that - I like to go without Jack......and relax etc etc............

mom21kid2dogs replied: I absolutely would take my child with me if I could afford it. Actually, I can't envision a reason NOT to take them.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
ITA! I would if we had the money.

lisar replied:
I totally agree. I think it would be a great experiance for a 7 year old.

luvmykids replied:
Me too. If I wanted a great family trip out of it I'd go by myself now and wait to take them until they're older.

msoulz replied: I wouldn't go without my kids. If I can't afford to take them then I can't afford to go.

kimberley replied: i went to the philippines at 6yo, ireland at 7yo and disneyland at 8yo and have better memories on the first two trips than i do the third because there was family and friends there. i don't think it's too young.

Crystalina replied: I bet a 7yo will get more out of that trip than an adult would. wink.gif I would bring my kids for sure. Unless I had to go, if I didn't have the money for them I wouldn't go either.

jem0622 replied: I don't think that the 7 yr old would remember everything, but I do think that it would be a memorable trip. I don't think it would have as much meaning or influence due to the lack of history classes that this 7 yr old has had thus far.

Brias3 replied: Personally, I'd take my kids along. We've traveled all over the world with my husband for work since Ryan was really young. He still recalls many of our trips, enjoys looking at the photo books and souvenirs and seems on the whole, "proud" to have traveled to many places. Even Aliyah has been all over and really seems to cherish the memories and what we've seen, especially when they are studying a certain place in school or something.

As far as it being a money issue, yes, that's a LOT of money for a child. Still, I think the experience would be great and all three of mine seem to have alot of recollection for places they've been.

MommyToAshley replied: I still remember a lot from when we traveled when I was 7 years old, and younger. It was kind of cool learning about those places later in life while looking back at my own memories.

If I could afford it, I would travel more (with Ashley). Even if she didn't get much out of the trip, I don't think I could go that far away and not take her with me. I would do nothing but worry about her.

hawkshoe replied: If I had the money, definately.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: thumb.gif I think it would be a great opprutunity for him and a grea educational experience!
