Do you have any 'specialites'?
C&K*s Mommie wrote: With cooking that is. Do you have anything that you are well known for around your home, or among family and friends? Are you always asked to make that for functions because everyone knows it will be superb??
I do not have any (I am a novice at cooking still) but my FIL makes 'Joe's surprise' that we always have him make for get togethers. He is proud of it, so he does not mind. My MIL makes sweet potato souffle that is out of this world good. And my mother hits the spot with her lasagna or chili. My father, well my father tends to burn everything (has since I was a kid ) so that is his specialty- burnt food.
Bee_Kay replied: Hmmm
I make great homemade chicken soup or beef stew. My Dh is great on a grill. My daughter makes good eggs
And my son claims he is the chef at the art of making Ramen Noodles LMAO!!!
Kated replied: Hmm.............. Im new at the cooking thing cause we lived with my parents for our 3 years of marriage. We just bought our first home about 2 months ago. I made a meatloaf and my husband loved it. I thought it was ok but he had me make it again when we had company and they liked it so now hes telling everyone I make a mean meatloaf and good mashed potatoes.
So I guess for now I can say they are what Im good at right now.
mckayleesmom replied: I make good
Ham and 15 bean soup Garlic Mashed potatoes
My black eyed peas turned out awsome for thanksgiving...does that count??
BTW...I use to be a caterer....I didn't make the food, but I decorated it....I can make your food pretty....turn your tomatoes into roses
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I make a good buffalo chili and I'm starting to get really good with fresh fruit tarts like apple or pear. I also make a really great rosemary and lemon roasted chicken. We don't have family close by, so I really don't get asked to bring things over...since it would mean taking it on a plane!
Oh, I guess I make a good guacamole and salads, like fresh green bean with pine nuts.
Jamison'smama replied: I make a good poppy seed chicken and corn casserole. When I take food to someone it is usually one of those or chicken and dumplings.
Bee_Kay replied: I like making chicken w/pasta and dumplings.
Hmm, maybe I'll make that for dinner
fashionmumofboys replied: I don't have any specialities, but overall whenever I have company they always say my food tastes so yummy and same with my desserts.
ediep replied: not really, I am not really into cooking. DH can make a good BBQ dinner.
luvmykids replied: I always have to bring the sweet potatos (I make mine with a pecan crust instead of marshmallows) and cranberries at holiday stuff, I'm known for my posole and my red chili, homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs, and a raspberry cheese coffee cake.
Momof3inMe replied: My family loves my meatballs. I make a homemade sauce and the meatballs I use a mix from a pizza place down the raod from my moms.
I also make a good clam dip! Its from my gram who passed away . We make it a lot and think of her everytime.
MyLuvBugs replied: Well, DH thinks I make the worlds greatest Enchiladas, and my Parents think I make the best Spagetti they've ever tasted. But I think their just being nice. lol Personally, I like to bake cookies and cakes and breads more than anything else, but never have the time anymore.
ZandersMama replied: DH makes a fantastic plate of nachos, every thursday for Survivor. Me on the other hand, make a kick butt turkey but it the only thing i know how to make
luvbug00 replied: my moose and puff pastry heart . and biscottie ( my favorite is my cranberry and pistacio)
PrairieMom replied: I make a great layered taco dip that all my work buddies ask for , but I can't really take credit for it, I stole the recipie from my friend!
kayla's mama replied: I don't but Jason does....
He makes a Jason's Springs Chicken ( taken from the Alice Springs CK from Outback)
It is so good and juicey. I think he is going to make it next Friday
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I don't get asked to bring things anywhere but these are what I concider to be my specialties
Chicken parmesian Enchiladas Shish Kabobs Rosemary potatos Dh loves everything I cook so that doesn't help...I also make a pretty good lasagna but I owe stouffers tahnks for that
gr33n3y3z replied: everything that has to do with food
A&A'smommy replied: I don't really like to cook but I make good spagetti sauce and an awesome roast
MamaJAM replied: I usually buy something to take with me places -- for several reasons. The biggest reason though is that every time I was asked to bring brownies to a function something would go wrong (either they'd burn, or they would never fully cook) -- and I'd always have to run out and buy something at the last second....so now I just save the baking and buy.
I do make a spinach and cheese casserole that I often take to family stuff (even the KIDS eat it!).
kit_kats_mom replied: hummingbird cake.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I read that fast and thought you said toast
I make pretty good toast
JP&KJMOM replied: Mine are chicken fried steak and meatloaf but Hubs makes the BEST brisket on the pit.
Brias3 replied: I make a really good coleslaw, Blue Cheese dressing, banana bread and chicken devon dish...those are usually what I get requests for. Of course, I inherited all those recipes from my mom and grandmother
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I never get asked to bring a certain dish anywhere, just thanksgiving...I make the cranberry relish, but it's my aunt's recipe.
I've never had one complaint about my cooking, though. Everyone eats seconds at our house. I do have to say that cooking IS my specialty. I love to cook. Oh, and I'm known for my 'Christmas pickles" Just today the teachers at Maddie's school were talking about them.
luvmykids replied: WTHeck is a Christmas Pickle?
Maddie&EthansMom replied:
I make pickles every year for Christmas and give them out. Everyone LOVES them. It's so funny. They are really good. And I've become known for them.
luvmykids replied: Oh, see, I tend to over complicate things with simple names
Mboy sounds good, I love homemade pickles!
Bee_Kay replied: I just looked up a recipe (there are a few) for Christmas pickes..... I'd never heard of them before
holley79 replied: I am always asked to make deviled eggs. I never knew that you could mess up a deviled egg till my evil MIL made them.
I also make a wonderful cheese dip. Everytime I go anywhere I am asked to make it. I wonder if this is the only reason I am invited.
