Do you flash your lights to warn of - speed traps?
C&K*s Mommie wrote: I did not know if it was still commonplace for people to warn other drivers of law enforcement running radar. On the highway I will flash my lights, but on city streets I do not.
Do you??
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Nope
coasterqueen replied: On highways I will on occassion if I'm in the mood, but I don't in town.
Kaitlin'smom replied: No I see to many of them in the city where kait goes to pre-school so I dont bother.
boyohboyohboy replied: I used to do that all the time but now that I have kids I dont. I think I think about it differently now. I want the people to slow down. JMO
Jamison'smama replied: I do on the long stretch of highway between my smaller town and Columbus.
3xsthefun replied: Nope.
J-rod replied: sometimes i do especially on 250 here..... even though flashing lights to warn i have been told by a cop is illegal..... i still try and help....cause flashers have saved my buy several times...i try to pass on the favor.
BAC'sMom replied: Nope. But if I pass by a wreck or someone broke down on the side of the road. I always warn the on coming traffic with either my lights or hazards. KWIM
mammag replied: I do sometimes....also depends on my mood.
JP&KJMOM replied: Use to but not so much anymore. DH drives when we go anywhere that the situation would happen.
MyLuvBugs replied: oh yeah I do on the highways, but if a cop catches you doing that they can pull you over and ticket you. At least around here. But we also raise a finger or hand up to wave at other drivers (and not the middle finger ) lol. That's a country thing I think.
C&K*s Mommie replied: see I did not know that...
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Yup a country thing! I was raised in the country and that was always a common thing!!
MyLuvBugs replied: Ah!! But they actually have to catch you doing it.... lol And you could always say there's just a short with your lights. lol I'm totally just teasing.
Cece00 replied: I didnt know this was common place until the other day. I was driving in my neighborhood & someone passed me flashing their lights & I thought "Strange..." and then I saw the cop. Then I realized they were warning me. The cop pulled me over but just gave me a warning....I know, I must've looked so dangerous, a pregnant woman in a minivan with 3 kids in the back Plus I was only going 42 in a 35.
luvbug00 replied: I do. All the time. the cops arround here are pure evil so i warn everyone who is going what looks to me to be a resonable speed. Otherwise they need to get caught. Oh and our poliece will rarely stop somone who is speeding unless they are going over 7-10 miles over the speed limit but in Dc they stop you for any offence they can find..
redchief replied: In most places it's not against the law to warn other motorists of a speed trap. In fact, most tickets written for this "infraction" are for "Flashing lights." The intent of the law as to make it illegal to use your highbeams to communicate to another driver that his highbeam headlights are blinding you. If you're willing to fight a ticket received for such an infraction, it's highly likely a judge would throw the ticket out since the police officer can't prove what your intent was.
In the police academy, recruit officers are taught to admonish drivers for flashing lights and ticket if they think they can make it stick. The admonishment they're taught to give is that "speedtraps" are not really that at all, but officers diligently watching passing cars for speed infractions, looking for child predators, and drug trafficers, and that warning oncoming cars warns the "criminals" to cease their "criminal activities." You have to pull your rubber boots up to wade through that BS.
At any rate, I don't typically flash oncoming drivers here. I try to keep within the typically allowed speed
lisar replied: It depends on my mood. If it is someone I know I will. Where I live they always have a speed trap set up on a corner on my way to work. When I am on my way to work I see alot of our trucks leaving and if the trap is there I will let them. But thats it.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Sometimes, it depends on the location/how fast they are going. If they are really flying I won't.
ashtonsmama replied: No... I never really thought about it--I mean people don't really drive like humans down here, and I rarely know someone I'm driving by, so people might just think I'm ticked off and give me the finger. That's just L.A.
kayla's mama replied: I don't because I have heard it is gang sign of some sort Plus I look at this way....if you are speeding then you deserve to get ticketed, JMHO!!!!!
A&A'smommy replied: sometimes if they are going within 10 miles over but anything over that I usually wont unless I think they are being ridiculous about catching people
ilovemybaby replied: I don't drive but if I did I wouldn't warn anyone of speed traps or cameras. My father is a speed camera operator and I wouldn't warn anyone because it's wrong and if they are going to speed they deserve to get a ticket JMO
Nina J replied: I don't. I figure if they're speeding, they should be caught because it's dangerous and they could crash and injure or kill themselves or someone else.
Bee_Kay replied: No I don't and the only reason I don't is that I don't think to do it LOL!!
I sometimes forget that people do that.... and I get p*ssed when people do it to me ..... I'm like "I don't have my @#$%^& brights on!!!" (when people give you a "flash" if you forget to dim your headlights)
holley79 replied: Nicole you better now get caught. LOL. That's hindering a police operation. I do it sometimes also.
