Do you dress your age?

mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: I saw a cute tube top at the mall today and I want to go back and get it...but I'm hesitating because maybe 31 is too old to wear a tube top? Now please no one take offense to that! I say wear whatever makes you comfortable at ANY age! But I just need honest opinions here ladies! blush.gif It wasn't a tight tube top that showed belly...it was like a blouse on the bottom, so it ballooned out a bit underneath the boobs and then cinched at the waist. Cute with jeans. Am I crazy?

I'm so clueless about fashion lately...It's like I've been living under a rock for nine months! Now I want to shop, but don't know what to buy! I've been living in sweats! sad.gif

Also, can you wear those cute bermuda shorts with heels? I tried on a few pairs today, but I'm getting sick of wearing everything with flip-flops!

gr33n3y3z replied: Its sounds nice and no its not to young for you wink.gif
I see all ages wearing those very popular down this way
and alot wear it woth shorts

I forgot the dress your age question
Nope lol

redchief replied: I think we should all dress above our ages. I for one am going to start a trend. I'm going to go out and buy me an orange collar shirt, golf pants with the little golf balls all over them (with a bright green background) and white patent leather shoes. Whaddya all think? wacko.gif wacko.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
rolling_smile.gif You know plaid madras are really in right now Ed!! rolling_smile.gif

coasterqueen replied: No, I don't dress my age. My sister says I dress like a grandma. laugh.gif I won't say how I think she dresses. emlaugh.gif I think I dress semi-conservative. I just feel weird showing a lot of skin. I guess you could say I dress "motherly". happy.gif

If you like it, go for it. I don't feel that one has to follow what is "in". That was for highschool wink.gif Now I just believe in wearing what is comfortable for me. thumb.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Just don't forget to wear your sandals with black socks pulled up.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: As for the age question, I really don't know what a 30 year old is supposed to dress like. At work I wear scrubs. At home, I wear jeans, capris and t-shirts with birkenstocks for summer. In the winter, I wear jeans, turtlenecks and sweaters. I guess I don't really follow fashion. Never really have.

PrairieMom replied:
Have you been in my closet? I think you have my clothes! laugh.gif

MyLuvBugs replied: I say if you've got the body for it (no matter what your age) go for it. It's when the body is overflowing in the outfit that it just doesn't look appropriate IMO. wink.gif

Jackie012007 replied: I'm 22 and I dress VERY conservatively for my age. I hate showing skin... partially because I'm not exactly a size 2 (especially now!) but I hate the skanky clothing designed for my age bracket... I prefer "preppy", very clean-cut, tailored looks. biggrin.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: If I'm picturing it right I think it would be fine.....and come to think about it, easy to nurse wearing that too!! rolling_smile.gif

ZandersMama replied: tongue.gif If you feel comfortable wear it! My closet ranges from 15 years old to 75, depending on my mood!

My3LilMonkeys replied: I don't exactly dress my age b/c most people my age show WAY more skin than I am comfortable with. I dress mature and boring for work and at home it's usually just jeans and fitted t shirts or tank tops - kinda ageless and bland emlaugh.gif .

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
thumb.gif wacko.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
I dont follow fashion either
And I wear about the same as you Kelly
Jeans and basic tshirts, sweatshirts, tank tops...nothing real exciting

The tube top sounds cute and I'm sure you have pretty good taste as to not wear anything that wont flatter your body kwim.

luvmykids replied: blush.gif I'm a Cosmo girl through and through, I actually cut out stuff I like in magazines and take it with me when I shop.

I don't dress inappropriately for my age as far as belly baring or too short shorts (no offense, for me as a mom I personally just can't do it!) , but I don't dress my age in the sense that I like trendy stuff and shop a lot in the junior departments. Although I'm noticing the biggest difference there in quality, a lot of the junior stuff even in high end stores just isn't the same quality as the "adult" stuff.

And yes, the bermudas look too cute with heels! I do that a lot. And go for the shirt you saw, sounds really cute!!! thumb.gif

Boys r us replied: I think it sounds really cute! Go get it for heaven's sake woman...if anyone needs to look HOT, it's a new mom..and not hot for anyone else, but for yourself!
And NO..31 is not too old to wear something like that! Don't even get me started..I turn 30 next Friday!

Brias3 replied: I'm not sure if I dress my age. I tend to favor the trends and all so sometimes, I THINK I'm too old to be wearing what I am, as I'm shopping alongside younger girls laugh.gif , but I wear tasteful clothing that I look nice in so I guess I can't do any better than that! I think the tube top sounds adorable and you should DEFINITELY go get it! Heck, from your pictures, you LOOK super young anyway so I'm not sure why the word "old" is floating around here silly! biggrin.gif

And yes, I think you can wear the shorts with cute heels. I've seen it quite a few times and it seems to be "the look". I can't say myself though- I look really weird in Bermuda shorts but LOVE the look of them, KWIM? laugh.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
I'm with you Monica!

This shirt was definitely in a junior's store, so you're right, I imagine the quality isn't great, but I can live with that! Hey, do you (or anyone) have an H&M store in your area? I see them on the show The Look for Less and everything they get there is super cute IMO! It's like runway fashion but for super tight budgets (like my own).

And Nichole, you're so right girl! Thanks! Off the subject, what are you doing for the big 3-0?? birthday.gif

moped replied:
I am with you Monica..................

Rae, you have a wicked body - yes you can wear all that

MommyToAshley replied: I say go get it!!! You have the perfect bod for something like that! Go for it!

I used to be in style when I worked outside of the home, but I have become used to working at home in my comfy clothes. blush.gif On the rare occasion that DH and I go out by ourselves, I always stress because I never have anything to wear. I don't want to go out and buy anything because I still have a little PG weight I want to lose. blush.gif Once I loose these last 10 lbs, I am going shopping!!! Want to come as my consultant? wink.gif

luvmykids replied:
I say go for it, and show us a pic! thumb.gif

I don't have an H&M but love the stuff I've seen from them. I do know they have a website but don't know what it is or if you can order from it.

redchief replied:
What in heck is a plaid madra?

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
They are plaid bermuda shorts! Like the long golf shorts! wink.gif Ask your kids, they may know! You see them in all the teen shops these days...who would have thought, huh?!! I bought a little pair for Wil at Old Navy! Trying to get DH to wear them, but he won't!

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Thanks Jen.............. blush.gif hug.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Thanks Dee Dee! I would LOVE to go shopping with you anyday!! wink.gif

redchief replied:
Ahhh... Thank you! I can't very well dress older than my age if I don't know what to buy! thumb.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Rae you can totally pull of a top like that. I have one similar that has straps, though. I got it at Forever 21. I love their clothes. And they are such a GREAT price.

I do believe if I know you well enough that you aren't going to wear anything that looks trashy. wink.gif You always dress so classy. But, I know how you feel. I am constantly asking people "Is this too '29 year old mother of two trying to dress like she's 20?" laugh.gif

I like to be trendy, but comfortable. So if you are comfortable in it, I say wear it. thumb.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: ITA with bermuda shorts with heels. yessmiley.gif

jcc64 replied: I don't think too many people look good in those bermuda shorts. Even Jennifer Aniston looked a little wide in the hips in a pic I saw recently. If something makes HER look fat- it's a bad style.
I think more important than dressing "your age", is dressing for your body type and size. Having said that, I do think anyone over 40 in a skirt that is too short or a shirt that shows too much belly, looks a little pathetic honestly. It is entirely possible to look sexy and attractive w/o being a slave to adolescent fashion when you're old enough to be the mother of a teenager. .

mamasbigbaby replied: (I'm 25) If jeans and a t-shirt is my age, then heck yeah! rolling_smile.gif

Nina J replied: I wear whatever I want, as long as I don't look like a tramp. I have clothes teenagers wear, and clothes women my age wear. But, I think I dress appropriatly for my age. If I look good, I feel good happy.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied: I don't dress my age anymore. I do go more fashionable now then ever!

Today at work I am wearing a spaghetti's strapped green peasant top, black gaucho's and espdrilles.. so I am feelin trendy..lol

I say if you can carry it off no matter what the age wear it. I am 32 and for the first time in 16 years can pull it off. From someone who couldn't wear it for so long but admired it.. I say go for it ladies!

And for the bermuda shorts.. I love them. I have had lots of compliments on how flattering they are! I find them more slimming then widening..and the lower the rise the better for me. But that's just me!
