Do you buy, by the scent?

C&K*s Mommie wrote: Do you smell things and buy them based on how they smell?

I do this, and it depends alot of time on my mood, as to what I buy. I do it with cleaners mostly, but shampoos, and hair products are some others. Like last night we needed dish detergent, and Chris prefers Dawn. They have some botantical kind, and I buy it at times, because that smells the best. But I was not in the mood for that, and I bought some apple orchard kind of a different brand.

I love the smell of Simple Green Spring Fresh, it leaves a great scent in the air after cleaning. But if I need another kind of cleaner, it has to be tolerable with the scent in order for me to buy it. Like Clorox had a Teflon cleaner out, the product was great but the smell was overpowering, I have not bought it since.

Anyone else like this??

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Oh definetly! happy.gif I always smell before I buy and I change every now and then, too. I"ll even spend a little more on a cleanser if I like the smell. Like Method ® Cucumber all purpose cleanser.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I need to start doing that. The last dish detergent I bought smells horrible. I seriously have been putting off washing dishes for 3 days because I can't stand the smell. puke.gif

jacobsmama replied: I go by scent alot too...I also will pay a little extra it if smells good. I mean hey who doesn't like to be rewarded with a great smelling house after all the chores we have to do!!!! Right? wink.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: I have never seen that, that I know of-- I will have to look for that.

I am glad I am not the only one, Chris thinks I am nuts for it. I needed floor cleaner one time, and I told him just pick up something with the best smell, which he did, but he was confused and thought I was crazy for caring about the smell of something you are just mopping with.

kayla's mama replied: Everything I buy I have to smell first. For some reason my dishwasher detergant has to smell good. Who is really going to be smelling my dishes lol

holley79 replied: I will get a headache from sniffing so much stuff. I buy according to scents and mood also. rolleyes.gif

luvmykids replied: Me too! I love love love the green apple lysol cleaner, and pink grapefruit Method cleaner from Target.

The last dish soap I bought smelled like an alcoholic's breath after a long day of drinking. Blech.

fashionmumofboys replied: I always go with the smell that is to my liking before buying anything.

PhiMuMommy replied: oh oyeah.. shampoo, dish soap, detergent.. all of the above.. i'm a sniffer..lol rolleyes.gif

Crystalina replied: I buy what smells the best also. I also love Lysols green apple scent. I have 4 yorkies in the house so I'm all about nice smells. I like to get the lamp rings and put the scented oil in to make the whole house smell like gardenias (in the winter it's cin. apple.)

The only dish soap that really makes me gag is the Dawn orange scented antibacterial soap. That stuff is so nasty to wash dishes with. I was washing a bowl that had spagetti sauce in it and that orange smell mixed with the sauce just gagged me so bad. Yuck! The two did not mix well.

Crystalina replied: I also buy Carress (sp) body soap because I just love it, the original scent and I buy the Aussie hair products for the scent. I love it, it's almost grapey. Izabella always says "Mommy, don't forget to put your grapejuice in your hair." I switch between that and Pantene (not because of the scent but because it works and I always have to switch back and forth).

DH is buying some terrible smelling Tag but I don't have the heart to tell him that he nauseates me. wub.gif

MamaJAM replied: For dish soap, dishwasher soap, and laundry detergent - I always buy lemon scented.
For household cleaners - I've been buying the 'orange-glow' versions of stuff -- 1) they smell TONS better than other cleaners, 2) they clean _everything_ from greasy stoves to windows, 3) I don't have to worry as much about what my kids touch after I've used them.

Buckles&Chains replied: Um... yes, for perfume and deoderant emlaugh.gif

I might do that from now on though, as I've bought some disgusting smelling laundry soap, and my clothes have smelt horrible after.

mckayleesmom replied: Yes...Im a sniffer....The other day me and Mckaylee were sniffing all the fabric softners at the store before picking one... rolling_smile.gif

3xsthefun replied: Yep, I always smell stuff before I buy it. Especially fabric softner, laundry detergent, body spray, and shampoo. I don't really smell the other cleaners.

I like the Apple Bloosm Dawn and I like Pine Sol. I really don't like any of the other cleaners. It seems like they don't have much smell to them.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: Yes I am a member of the isle sniffer club! laugh.gif I am the woman you see smelling fabric softener, cleaning products, shampoo- wacko.gif emlaugh.gif I am weird about bathroom cleaner tho-I usually use clorox bleach spray and then use Method grapefruit or cucumber to make it smell pretty-but I have to use something first to kill the germs! blush.gif

I had a major thing for Tide Clean Breeze-but the store was out a few weeks ago so I bought a small box of Gain and I love it! Our clothes smell just washed for days! Oh and I am addited to dryer sheets and fabric softener! My husband thinks I am wacko.gif BUT he sure enjoys those soft socks and shirts! laugh.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: I do that also

to keep the house smelling good all the time Its either candles or Febreze

luvmykids replied:
I love the Febreze Air Effects .... the rain scent is so good and lasts forever. My mom hates strong smelling cleaning stuff, but I figure if I cleaned I want the smell so everyone knows it!

Crystalina replied: What I do to freshen the house up from time to time is I'll take a Gain fabric softner sheet and put it behind a little fan that I have and put the fan on low. It sucks the sheet to the back so it won't fall and within seconds the entire house smells soooo nice.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Good tip, Crystalina! thumb.gif

If I know someone is coming over, I will stick a dryer sheet near the door (but hidden) for the aroma to waft up to them when they walk in. The scent does not last but a day or so, so I just take it back down anyways.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I always sniff cleaning stuff and stuff like shampoo or lotion before I get it, too. tongue.gif My favorite scent of dishsoap is original Dawn - it smells like home to me. happy.gif

Edward's Mommy replied: Right now, money is really tight, so I buy by price. But if I had more lee-way with money, I would buy by scent!
