Do you add suger to your kids - cereal???

mckayleesmom wrote: I know that my mom use to let us sprinkle some on blander cereals and I have seen other parents do it, but I don't let the kids....Actually..they have never asked and I have never showed them otherwise. When I was at my mom's house a couple summer's ago I noticed that she let my nephew do it and went to sprinkle some on my kids and I told her not to and not to do it in front of them because they didn't notice the difference anyways..even on less sweet cereal.

I have to admit that I still sprinkle a tiny bit on my raisin bran... blush.gif I always make sure the kids aren't looking though...Mckaylee tends to want to do what everyone else is doing... rolling_smile.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied: Nope
He eats corn flakes and doesnt care that its not sugary so I dont introduce the idea of sprinkling sugar on it.

mckayleesmom replied:
My kids will eat special k plain....or with a banana for sweetness.

Jamison'smama replied: My kids don't do it...they have no idea it's an option but I pour a ton on mine sleep.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
same here

mckayleesmom replied:
Russell and Mckaylee have no clue....and I still do it even though I know it's bad for me... rolling_smile.gif

That is why I told my mom to make sure they didn't see her do it for my nephew or they would want it too....They are little followers.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: The latest fave cereal here is honey bunches of oats with almonds...if alex and dh will both eat a cereal that doesnt have a character on the box then I am all for it!!

BAC'sMom replied: Nope

Calimama replied: Heck no!!!!!!!!! She loved Cheerios so I'll offer her strawberries or a banana in it if she wants.

My3LilMonkeys replied: No. Neither DH nor I do it so I'm not sure they would even know it's an option. They don't eat cereal all that often anyway so it's never been a big thing.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I have always put honey on my kids' cheerios. I'm not sure why - I guess I thought they just don't taste very good without sugar but I didn't want to put sugar on theirs. tongue.gif They love it though. Andrew has been asking for sugar on his lately though because he sees me loading it onto mine. rolleyes.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: Nope.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: no, never. We get them the no name raisin bran, plain cheerios, rice krispies.. and puffed wheat. They really like the puffed wheat. They think it's popcorn. emlaugh.gif

lisar replied: I do it to mine but not the kids

luvmykids replied: I don't put sugar on theirs or mine, I can't stand cheerios alone so I slice a banana or strawberries. I don't salt their food either.

HuskerMom replied: Nope

Celestrina replied: No, mainly because he doesn't like cold cereal in milk. He still loves dry Cheerios. Sometimes for breakfast he'll have dry Cheerios, fruit, and milk in a cup. He even likes them as a snack.

CantWait replied:
Ditto. If they want it sweeter they can chop up a banana with it.

Brias3 replied: Nope, never ate it that way myself, so don't want to start the kids on it. They eat enough sugar in other things.

My kids are all big cereal fans though, and will eat anything from Cheerios to Fiber One blink.gif so we usually stick with fruit, if anything, to sweeten.

Nina J replied: I let my kids do it. But, they can't have any more than a teaspoon, lol.

I must be a bad parent. We sometimes have toast with butter and a teaspoon of sugar sprinkled on top, or toast and chocolate sprinkles laugh.gif I used to love it when I was a kid so I figured why not now, as long as it is just an occassional treat.

This isn't an every day occurence, just an occassional thing. None of the kids seem in to cereal at the moment, Emily is into english muffins with strawberries.

mckayleesmom replied:
We use to do the toast with sprinkled suger too.... laugh.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied: We used to have toast with cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on it

A&A'smommy replied: OHH no I do not put sugar on alyssa's cereal that is ALL she needs is something else to by hyped up on emlaugh.gif

A&A'smommy replied:
hehe I do that with alyssa every once in a while she LOVES it love2.gif

jem0622 replied: nope

kimberley replied: no. my kids don't even like milk on their cereal.

mckayleesmom replied:
Mckaylee doesn't either...she drinks a cup of milk, but doesn't like it poured over cereal.

kimberley replied: good to know mine aren't the only weird ones happy.gif

cameragirl21 replied: I have to say I never understood the idea of pouring sugar into cereal...I have never done that and always thought the idea is gross because really you're just creating really sweet milk and cereal.
I remember when I was about 14 or so I was babysitting and getting the kids dinner and the girl, age 4ish said she wanted cereal with sugar on it. So I got her cereal and didn't believe her about the sugar, I thought she was joking so I hand her the cereal and milk and she says, "aren't you going to put sugar on it?" So I lied and said I already did and she ate it like a champ, not noticing the difference. I just didn't have it in me to mix milk and sugar like that, it wigged me out.
And bear in mind that I don't just have one sweet tooth, I have a whole mouth full of sweet teeth so it's not as if I don't like sweets, I just don't get the sugar in the cereal thing at all.
If the sugar does not mix with the milk then you're biting into sugar crystals, which I also think is gross.

Kaitlin'smom replied: only a tiny bit on rice crispys, other than that nope. we all love ceral in my house.

Calimama replied:
We used to eat that when I was little too!!!!

My2Beauties replied: No I don't considering my kids only eat Trix, Froot Loops, Corn Pops, Cookie Crisp, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Puffs.... you get the idea there's no need for more sugar in those blush.gif blush.gif

3xsthefun replied: No, never have.

I use to when I ate cereal. I don't eat it that much anymore.

MoonMama replied: Nope and DH and I don't put it on ours either.

my2monkeyboys replied: We eat all kinds of cereal around here, and none of them need sugar added to them. I do buy the types that are whole grain so it's not all bad, but there is enough sugar in them normally as it is.
And we do the cinnamon toast sometimes, too.... I love it!
