Do chicken pox spread fast?

My3LilMonkeys wrote: Madison had a little round, bumpy rash on her belly this morning....I thought nothing of it, she always has rashes. I checked it when I got home from work and it was all over half her belly...then it started down her arms to her hands....and now it's spread to the other half of her belly and is starting on her cheeks. I think it's chicken pox, but I don't know for sure - she says it's not itchy.

I'm going to call the Dr. 1st thing in the morning but I was just curious if it's likely that's what it is.

Also, with me being PG - is that dangerous at all? I did have chicken pox as a child, but my MIL says I shouldn't be exposed to them even if I had it.

lovemy2 replied: It could be and NO its not good for you to be exposed to them pregnant - even if you have had them - I think the chances are probably less for you to get them since you had them but it can be very dangerous if you are pregnant....

I hope that isn't what it is for your sake and hers - if they aren't itchy that makes me think maybe not dunno.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: I checked her over again when I tucked her in, literally this morning she had about 10 dots on her belly, now the entire front of her body is covered in them, but not a one on her back....if it's not chicken pox I'm a bit worried about what it might be.

redchief replied: She's got chicken pox. You be careful, please! ohmy.gif

Calimama replied: Def. be careful, I've heard pox and pregnant women are NOT a good mix.

MommyToAshley replied: It does sound like chicken pox, but I'd probably see the ped to make sure. Just curious, has she had the vax?

I agree, you should probably keep try to avoid contact sad.gif and let Dad tuck her in. hug.gif

A&A'smommy replied: Definitely sounds like chicken pox... I would call your ob!!!

Cece00 replied: Sounds like mild CP.

I'd call your OB, just to be safe. At this point, there really isnt much you can do (she has been contagious for up to 3 weeks before the first dot showed up...) but I'd call to see what he/she has to say.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I got up early this morning to call the Dr....thank god I looked at her first or they would have thought I was nuts.....all the spots are completely gone. Now I'm trying to think of what she ate yesterday/the day before to see if maybe it was an allergy rash of some sort....

msoulz replied: That is a relief! I remember CP being a very dangerous thing during pregancy - thank goodness!! hug.gif

sparkys2boys replied: Oh I am so glad the spots are all gone hug.gif hug.gif

A&A'smommy replied: oh good i'm glad it wasn't chicken pox!!! hug.gif hug.gif

bawoodsmall replied: How odd. wink.gif Did she eat anything funky?

redchief replied: Wow, that is a relief, I bet. The symptoms you described sounded exactly like CP, but then those symptoms are also right down the alley of general allergic reaction. I would definitely try to narrow down what she ate and came into contact with yesterday. If you can identify what caused her reaction you might be able to keep it from recurring.
