Do any of you...

Do any of you plan out your meals for the whole month?
Does it save you money?
TheOaf66 replied: no we typically go about 2 weeks at a time. With the daycare at the house, we just don't have the room for that much food. Kinda sux sometimes having to buy food for us and then the kids, our grocery bills get kinda high sometimes
Boo&BugsMom replied: I think it depends on how you look at it. I think we go more like every 3 weeks, honey (Oaf). The only thing I do notice is that I don't always make sure certain things get eaten in time, then they spoil. That's the only downfall with us. Other than that, it does save a bit of money in the long run because you aren't going as often for little thing here and there. Between us and my 7 daycare kids (3 of us, 7 kids for 3 meals a day), we spend about $100 a week...not bad I'd say!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Scotty has been trying to convince me to do this. I go to the grocery store every other day whether we need food or not. I'm addicted to buying groceries for some reason.
Cece00 replied: I grocery shop for 2 wks @ a time. I couldnt do a month b/c produce doesnt last that long & I always forget stuff
Cece00 replied: How on earth do you get away with feeding 10 ppl on $100 a week?????
I spend about that, and I've only got 2 kids who eat real food @ home, and my hubby works out of town at least 2 nights a week & we eat out a pretty sizable amount.
SHARE!
MyLuvBugs replied: Hmmmm....well, we're gunna try it. We got a 1/2 size deep freeze for Christmas from my parents, and it just sits here in our living room half empty most of the time. Last month we got some money for our Anniversary and used $150 of it at Sam's club. Those groceries have lasted us almost the whole month!! But the little things like the WIC items and fruit we still have had to go to the store for once a week.
I've made a list of all the general stuff that we use each month and the amount we use (it's a HUGE list ), and i"m hoping that we can go to Sam's and only spend $250.00 to make it through the month (minus the WIC stuff). We'll see. At least we'll be using that silly freezer. lol
Boo&BugsMom replied: Oh, we have a small deep freezer too. Comes in very handy, especially when you go to Sams or buy meat from a farmer in bulk! I love ours!
moped replied: I try to go every 2 weeks but I don't plan out every meal.....and we order in about once a week at the very most. But when I go it is at least $250 per trip................and Jack doesn't eat much at all.
I work full time, so for me it owuld be a great idea to have all meals planned out, but nothing in my life is that organized, as hard as I try!!!!!
gr33n3y3z replied: I spend about 750.00 a month in food now some weeks are less and some are more but it all boils down to the figure at the end of the month
MyLuvBugs replied: Oh I know!! When my dad had a pig butchered for us back in Feb. it filled the bottom of the freezer pretty good, but it's amazing how fast it goes......
I should totally show you all this list. You'd die. It's insane how much stuff we eat in a month's time.
PrairieMom replied: I go once a week. We sit down monday nights and decide what we want to eat that week, then I go to Walmart Tuesday mornings. we usually spend 150 a week. I have no idea what we spend it on, boy $ goes fast at the Walmart!
My3LilMonkeys replied: I have to go weekly - I tried every 2 weeks but DH ate all of the junk food in week 1 and complained that there was nothing to eat for all of week 2.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I do real groceries once a week....and go once sometimes twice during the week to get milk or something I missed on grocery day.
Money does go quick at the walmart!! I think its all the little things adding up that gets me! Oh thats $2 and thats only $3 adds up quick!
holley79 replied: We normally make a trip to the commisary once or twice a month. We buy a lot of our frozen and canned goods there. We also buy enough produce/ fruit for one week. For little odds and ends we make a quick trip to Wal Mart and the fruit stand.
ashtonsmama replied: We don't really plan meals here... Just kind of grab whatever's in the fridge or freezer, whatever sounds good that night, and it seems to always work out. I go shopping probably about once a week or two weeks, it really depends on what produce we've been eating, and if we really need more or not...I try to conserve, but it doesn't always work, as we all know...
Nina J replied: I go to the grocery store 3 times a week, sometimes more. I find it easier to buy the things you need, when you need them. I know a few people who do the once a month thing, and by the end of the month they are running out of food. I also tend to buy things on sale in bulk, so right now we have 10 tins of pineapple because it was on sale the other week. And we always have plenty of pasta and pasta sauce, frozen meat, tinned food and stuff like that. The only thing I have to buy every few days is milk, toilet paper, vegetables, fruit, juice and snack items. Then every 3 weeks or so I'll buy cleaning stuff (soap, detergant, etc.), I replace the pasta, sauces and meats and tinned food we've used, and whatever else.
Geez, I talk alot.
Ashlynn's Mommy replied: We just buy for the week. And we still find ourselves running to the grocerie store to pick something up, because we forgot when we went shopping, or we just didn't buy enough.
luvmykids replied: I go whenever we need stuff, usually have to make one small trip during the week but otherwise go to the store for a "big" shopping (about 200-250) every 2 weeks and go to Sams about once every 2 months.
garrettsmom replied: I keep a running list on the fridge of "stuff" we need for the week, then we sit down on Tuesday night and decide what we want for meals, and go shopping at WalMart on Wednesday night. We don't buy our produce there, though. We go to a supermarket around the corner to get our produce. Don;t know about your walmarts, but their produce always seems so grosse.
We also make a trip once monthly to Sam's for diapers (BIG savings), wipes, and other stuff we use a lot of.
We spend about 75-100 per week on groceries. I found when we were going every other day and pickikng up what we needed, we'd buy a treat, or extra stuff and our grocery bill was about 150-200 for the week!!

Brias3 replied: I do one big shopping trip about once a week but end up there for odds and end stuff and things that we go through most and run out of (milk, fruit, veggies, etc.) a couple of more times a week outside that big trip.
