Do You Do a Meal Plan for the Month?
Kirstenmumof3 wrote: I was just curious. This is something that DH and I have been talking about doing for months now, but we never got around to it. Well lastnight after our visit to Toronto and thinking back to how much weight Spencer lost, I thought that I would give it a try. So I did the Meal Plan for the whole month of November, trying to accomodate as many of the foods that Spencer likes. I'm actually impressed that I was able to plan for the whole month and I included meals that the girls like as well. I'm hoping that this will encourage Spencer to eat more and stop the constant questions "WHAT ARE WE HAVING FOR SUPPER?"
Our Lil' Family replied: I don't do it for the month but I do it about 10-12 days at time. I hope it works for you....now you can say, "Look at the calendar" whenever they ask that dredded question!
Simplebeliever replied: I make a weekly meal plan. It helps me keep a tighter budget when I go grocery shopping and it helps me keep my family's meals more tasteful and nutritious.
I tend to eat a ton of junk food, so making meal plans tends to be the only way I'll eat healthy.
lisar replied: I tried to do it for one week and it didnt work out that way. So I havent tried it again. LOL.. I am no good at that. LOL
mckayleesmom replied: No...Im that girl that is wandering around the grocery store in a daze and looking very confused......I hate shopping.
mom2my2cuties replied: I do, but it doesn't usually get held to.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I've done this the past few months. I like it because it eliminates my having to think of what to cook after dinner. Also, I build in a few days that I can say, "I don't feel like it" and bring home subway sandwiches. Seems to cut down on extra trips to the grocery store. I make a huge list at the beginning of the month and all I need to pick up later are things like milk and yogurt and bread.
MyLuvBugs replied: We lay out a "plan" for what we'll make for the month, but nothing is set in stone. But it does help us when we go to the store and Sam's club. Since we have it all laid out we know how much of everything we'll need for that month. Saves a bunch on money and time.
booey2 replied: I had tried it once and DH decided he didn't want something a couple nights to I never tried again. However, now I have to decide what we are having each day and if he doesn't like it he doesn't eat. I ususally have a pretty well stocked house food wise, we could live off the pantry alone for a while if we had too. I think it comes from growing up in a house where the fridge was locked and the cupboards bare until mom decided that we needed food. I never want to not have something to feed the kids.

Jamison'smama replied: Not for a month but I do for about 2 weeks now that I have become a coupon fanatic, I plan meals around coupons/store specials and what I have in reserve. It is making quite a difference.
PrairieMom replied: We do it weekly. every monday we sit down and discuss what we want to eat that week, then I go to the grocery store on tuesdays.
gr33n3y3z replied: we go day by day lol
moped replied: Day by day here - I think about it when I am driving home at 430
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Absolutely. Who the heck has time to cook 3 full meals every day with 3 little kind hanging out between their feet???!!!
I'm very anal... I have a master list of all the pantry stuff and freezer stuff... so I know what foods I have on hand to make stuff... so if I want to make a certain recipe, I just have to look at my master list to see if I have everything I need or if I need to go to the store... and I buy the big packs of stuff... especially meat... so I make a couple things at a time when I do cook... I freeze stuff lots too, so it's not like we have the same foods 3 nights in a row....
Meal plans are a lifesaver around here. Especially if you take the time to double or triple cook.... and if you have a dh that's a total turd in the kitchen.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Meal planning? What's that? I am usually very anal when it comes to organization, but since I hate cooking to begin with that is one area I am not organized in. When I go shopping though I do have a meal list with me. So, I guess I plan in a way, but it's only for a week at a time and I don't know what I am going to make that day until about noon each day.
Calimama replied: Not monthly. I do it from the 1st to the 15th and the 15to the 30th.. and so on. Works out well and my DH loves it.
Cece00 replied: No. I'd love to do stuff like that, but I'd never stick to it. There are so many nights when I dont know what I'm making until right before I do it, or I just dont feel like cooking.
redchief replied: Tonight we did a five minute meal plan. I asked Lisa what was for dinner. She said, "I don't know, how about pizza?"
I said, "Sounds good. Rick, call Via Mare, please."
