Distracted Nursling

holley79 wrote: Ok ladies. I am in need of some type of solution. Annika has learned to sit up and now that is all she wants to do. She doesn't want to lay down to nurse, diaper change, clothes changed nothing. rolleyes.gif . It's been about to try me nuts. She then gets ticks because she's hungry. I tried nursing beads. She used those to pull herself up into a sitting position and choked the crude out of me. wacko.gif

mammag replied: Sorry no suggestions for you. Hope it gets better though. All my kids went through phases like that. hug.gif

coasterqueen replied: laugh.gif Sorry I had to laugh because Kylie did that to me with the nursing beads, therefore we stopped that right away. rolleyes.gif I'm sorry to say this, but from my experience, this is a new chapter in the journey of nursing and it stays here the rest of the time, i.e. they will be distracted til they wean. rolleyes.gif wacko.gif wacko.gif

I have had my share of moments with the distraction. Kylie I had to literally nurse her in a dark, quiet room just to get her to nurse pretty much EVERY time she needed to nurse. If we were out and about the car was the place to keep her from wondering what was going on, i.e. I had to quickly stop NIP at that point.

With Megan it's more annoying now than it ever was w/Kylie. She is so distracted no matter how or where I try to nurse her I can only get her to nurse for seconds if I'm lucky. So I feel like I ask her 24/7. wacko.gif Sometimes I feel like I should just let the shirt and bra come off and when she sees it she can have it. happy.gif It just drives me batty.

Hang in there. Try to get as creative as you can. Many say the dark, quiet room works and it did for my first, just not my second. That could be because her big sis likes to torment her 24/7 and so little sis is just a bit more distracted. laugh.gif

holley79 replied: Yea, the dark quiet room is NOT working. emlaugh.gif I have tried that a few times. The nursing beads have been put away, that is for sure. blink.gif I guess we will just wait and see how things go. She eats fine at the sitters but that's because she can hold her own bottle, see what's going on around her and just pretty much do her own thing if she wants. Steph did tell me when she is ready for a nap she loves to be held to eat then when she's just eating she pushes away and wants to sit up. wacko.gif Hopefully things will settle down. laugh.gif

Bamamom replied: Tripp is doing that too. I have modified the lying down postion - I lie down and he sits up and sort of leans over to the boobie. It's halarious but it works!!!!

BabyOwen427 replied: that's kinda what I was going to suggest. Owen is only two months, but he is super active. I have been thinking of what is going to happen when he starts sitting up, and I think having him sit on my lap, or straddle my leg, and face the boob he would be able to hold on and sit up. Try that and see if it works.

Jamison'smama replied:
I knew a woman who nursed her son sitting up for every meal---she did it for severe reflux issues but she might like it. I would imagine she would snack more at first but she may actually nurse well that way.

Good luck!

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
That works for us - that, and having N sit on my lap, straddling my thigh - and I talk to her at the same time, to keep her attention on me - seems to work alright... she's nursing less and less though - she likes eating much better. rolleyes.gif

holley79 replied: I do the laying down position at night because that's the only way I can get her to eat. I will try the sitting on my lap position though.

coasterqueen replied:
Megan likes sitting up as well as she got older. So did Kylie. Although for some reason I'm not a fan of that position. happy.gif

moped replied: What are nursing beads?

holley79 replied:
I googled them, then made them. They worked wonderfully for a while but now they aren't working. blink.gif
