Diapers

holley79 wrote: What kind of diapers did/ do you use?

Where do you get them?

Where do you feel the best deal is?

I'm just curious, I was in Wal Mart at 0400 hours this morning shopping for Thanksgiving and was looking at diaper prices. I'm thinking about going to Sams Club to see what their prices are and if it's worth getting a membership card. huh.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I have always bought Huggies at Sam's. If I'm too lazy to go over there because it's ALWAYS crowded, I go to Walmart or Target. I think Sam's is probably the best deal unless you're buying Walmart's brand diapers.

But I use Target wipes...I like them the best and you can get around 450 for about $7 maybe less.

PrairieMom replied: I'm kind of a diaper snob. I get Pampers from Sams club. I use huggies wipes, also from sams club.

My3LilMonkeys replied: We use mainly Luvs, bought from Walmart. The prices there are only a few cents above the Sams Club in our area.

And just a BTW to those who use Pampers - my dad works in the diaper processing facility for Procter & Gamble (where they make both Pampers and Luvs) and he told me they are the exact same diaper except they make Pampers prettier and the tabs a little fancier so that they can charge more for them.

booey2 replied: Well when we used to buy them we were pretty thrifty in that we shopped around and discovered that when you buy the mega packs and jumbo of whatever brand from what ever store make sure that you do a per diaper price because some times you think you are getting a deal and you really aren't because the price of one diaper is the same no matter what size a package you buy. By the way we used pampers mostley because I found that the huggies felt damp on the outside and pampers didn't.

MomToMany replied: If you really want to save money, be nice to the environment, & keep nasty chemicals away from baby's most sensitive skin, use cloth diapers! You can buy them on-line. Some stores have layaway & free shipping!

If you want more info, let me know!

punkeemunkee'smom replied: We used Huggies Supremes. They were the only diaper that did not break Tay out. I always got them at Target, they usually carried the biggest package. smile.gif

My2Beauties replied: I use Pampers Baby Dry or Pampers Cruisers, but mostly Baby Dry. Hanna is allergic to Huggies, everytime I used them she broke out in a rash, not to mention they didn't hold wetness in very well, she always wet through them, especially at night. I tried Luvs when she was an infant because someone bought them for me at my baby shower, they seemed to work well too.

KingMom replied: I used Pampers Swaddlers for the newborn and size 1-2. I bought them at Costco before they came out with their own and quit selling the Pampers brand. I switched to the Costco/Kirkland brand when he went into size 3 b/c they were supposed to be just as good as the Pampers Cruisers and they were! I love them and the cost so much less, he still where's them now.

3xsthefun replied: At first I used Huggies and then switched to Luvs.

As she got older I used the Walmart brand or the Dollar General brand.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I use Huggies. I hate Pampers - they're way too perfumy, and Andrew got diaper rash from them. They are supposed to be more absorbant, but I don't mind changing diapers a couple extra times a day... I only go through 4 or 5 diapers a day with Huggies anyways. wink.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I use white cloud if Im at walmart.......Huggies if I go to the commissarry and a cheap brand if I go to the px....the cheap brand I get are almost identical to huggies, but they are 2 dollars cheaper and they have clifford instead of Mickey Mouse.........

rolling_smile.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: I always bought by the case when they were on sale, at K-Mart they were always putting them on sale and I had coupons. I bought mostly pampers or luvs. Huggies leaked on Kait.

My advice is try different brands each kid is different and one brand may work and another might not. I had gotten a good variety form my showers so I was able to try ALOT before I had to buy them.

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I use huggies supreme and I buy them at wal-mart. I would probablly buy them at a Sam's Club if we had one closer by.

5littleladies replied: We've always used Huggies. We tried Pampers Swaddlers with Lissie for a little while, but I hated the way they started to feel wet on the outside the minute she wet her diaper. huh.gif I agree with Di though-it really depends on the baby, so just try out different brands until you find the one that suits you best.

A&A'smommy replied: We have bought from wal-mart, sams and toysrus (when they were on sale) I used huggies for a long time until she got to be about 4months old and then they leaked so I used pampers I didn't like pampers when she was a newborn because they leeked (then) so I switched them up and we still used pampers and hopefully are going to be done with diapers soon!! rolleyes.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: I was a diaper snob & used only pampers for K. Recently though, I got a case of the Sams brand "smiles" and I love them. They are about half the price of pampers & we've had no leaks.

I'm still working on not sobbing over all of the $ I could have saved by making the switch sooner bawling.gif

kimberley replied: with the boys i got their pampers at costco. with jade, i get them from our local drug store (IDA) because they take manufacturer coupons and they have their own "store money" you can use as well so i rarely pay more than $10 for a 31pack when they are regular $14plus tax.

MomToMany replied: To get started with cloth diapers, I suggest reading the following website:

New To Cloth Diapers

There is LOTS of great info there!

I, too, am a diaper snob. The thought of putting a disposable diaper on my youngest daughter disgusts me since I know there are MUCH better alternatives out there!

ETA: You could diaper a baby from birth through potty training for around $300; and any other children who use them are diapered for free! Compare that to what you would spend on disposables, which could cost $2500 per child ohmy.gif !

aspenblue1 replied: I used Huggies with Isabella and pampers with Kyrsten. I usually buy them at Cosco or Sams. I tried the cheaper diapers with Isabella and she got a horrible rash so I didn't try with Kyrsten.

My2Beauties replied:
Mollie, I know you are extremely passionate about this and that is fantastic, but you have to remember not everyone has the time to deal with cloth diapers. I am not going to turn this into another debate. I wish you wouldn't use words like disgust when talking about disposables, I have never had a problem with them, my child is perfectly healthy, and the majority of the people on this board use them. I really think that you are using some strong words. I know it is your opinion, and I am glad that you are so passionate about it, but I think your choice of words is a little harsh!

beautifullychaotic replied: I buy what ever is on sale or what I have a cupon for if there is no sales. The only stipulation is they have to have the cloth outside I hate the plastic ones. Mostly for the crinkly noise they make it gives me the chills rolling_smile.gif

a list of what we have used in order of what I like to what I hated

Huggies
Huggies supreme
Pampers baby dry
Pampers swaddlers
Pampers Cruisers
White cloud
Family dollar days
Luvs
Playskool

Nathansmom replied: Since we ran out of the Huggies/Pampers that we got as shower gifts we've only used Wal-Mart's Parents choice. Love them!! Rarely leaks (and I mean rarely...) and they have held up really well!

On that note though, I think every baby is different, and a different diaper works for every baby!

Our Lil' Family replied: Strangely enough, all the diapers I got as gifts were Pampers...so I stuck with them. I did get one free Luvs in the mail and it leaked so I never switched. I just bought a box of 104 (sz 3) at Wal-Mart for $20 and I had a $2 off coupon....buy in bulk! Just make sure he/she won't grow out of that size before you need more.

holley79 replied: THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!!!!! hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

I got a variety of diapers at my baby shower so I guess I will get to see what doesn't leak with Annika. Anoher friend of mine uses the White Cloud at Walmart also and loves them. I have checked prices per diaper at Walmart, so I will check the Exchange next time I'm out there. I am going to be a wipes snob though. The Parent's Choice wipes seem way too thin, I like the Huggies and Pamper wipes. Will see what Annika's little tush likes. wub.gif wub.gif

As for the cloth. I honestly don't have the time to deal with that. My mom did when we were younger but it was a hassle for her. Her and I talked about cloth the other day. I have to work fulltime and so does Dh so we don't have time to wash diapers daily.

Not to mention I have a VERY weak stomach. puke.gif puke.gif I would rather slide it off, roll it up and into the diaper genie it goes. blush.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: We go for either Walmart brand diapers (size 3 is around $5/$6) or Dollar General diapers (size 3 is exactly $5). As for wipes we usually go with the Walmart brand, or DG or even Family Dollar. They all seem to be the same.

jem0622 replied: My faves for the early days are Pampers Swaddlers. Sadly, you can no longer get them at Costco. Sam's has them and they are a fab deal in the big box.

I also liked a cheaper option...TRU newborn dipes.

We are now using Kirkland dipes and I LOVE them! I was a Smiles (Sam's Club) fan but I really like the Kirkland dipes!

I do not like the el cheapo's b/c they really stink when they wake up the morning or put a drop of pee in them! rolling_smile.gif

MomToMany replied:
Actually, you are supposed to dump the poop in the toilet before you throw the diaper away. But I don't think a single person who uses disposables actually does it sad.gif . That way the fecal matter doesn't pollute the groundwater, but nobody cares about that.

booey2 replied:
I did this with both the boys diapers once I was able to dump them and they weren't too mushy.

mom2tripp replied:
wacko.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied:
I've never heard of this before. Can someone give me a source so that I can get more information?

holley79 replied:

I hadn't heard that one either. I will have to do some research on it.

Like I said I am the biggest wimp with the weakest stomach. Roll em up and throw them away.

beautifullychaotic replied:

It says it on almost all diaper packages. blush.gif Well atleast the ones I buy anyway

holley79 replied:

Ok going to be reading diaper packages when I get home. See we learn something new everyday. blush.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied:
I always take the diapers right out of the packages and put them in the hanging diaper holder - I will have to read the package next time I buy them. Thanks!

booey2 replied:
That is where I read it and when we took the childbirth classes the instructor told us to do this when we changed a poopy diaper.

mom2tripp replied: I def learned something today!!!!! NEVER knew or heard of that one--will have to give it a try!

Debra replied: With DS, we used Huggies or Huggies Supreme.

DD was in cloth diapers. When she did wear 'sposies, they were Seventh generation brand & sometimes Pampers.

moped replied: I am a total Pampers girl here - started with Swaddlers, then to cruisers and we are still using cruisers - always will.

And I had no idea you are supposed to get rid of the poop - ummmmmmmm. Still won't happen here. Can you see Mr. Mom (Tom) doing that with the gross diapers????????????? LOLOL

Anyways, yes there are cloth options out there and that is wonderful if you choose to diaper that way. Personally i don't have the time and Jack has never been bothered by disposables.

holley79 replied:

This is what I was thinking when it came to both DH and I. rolling_smile.gif

USMCwife replied: With Eden I could use Huggies, Luvs, or Pampers. I tried White Cloud once and she got diaper rash, that was the one and only time she got it.

With Garrett, I use either Huggies or Pampers. The Luvs leak w/ him.

jacobsmama replied: I use walmart brand now size 4 is only 13.77 for 96 diapers...I think that is great but when Jacob was younger I used Huggies all the time until about 15 months. I always use Huggies wipes though...No generic b/c they make jacobs littly hinney red!! haha

holley79 replied: Well I have enough variety that I got at my baby shower that I can try then all out and see which works better. I don't want to use the off brand wipes though. I will stick with Huggies there. They seem thicker. JMHO.
