Diaper Question

dolfinrse wrote: Just a quick question....ever time we go to change Zachary's diaper all his clothes and bassinet sheets are soaked. We are doing a full load of laundry a day. The first night we thought we weren't putting the diapers on right, but it's been almost 2 weeks and he is still peeing through everything. We are using the Huggies Newborn diapers and have also tried the Swaddlers. The Huggies seem to work a little better. Sometimes we put down waterproof pads so that we don't have to change the sheets at 3 am, but we still have to change his clothes. We only have 4 of those pads, so once we do 4 changings the sheet is exposed. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Kaitlin'smom replied: wow! sorry for the pun but what a little squirt! umm I dont really know what to say! Have your tried changing him more often or maybe getting some rubber pants to put over top of them? I really dunno the only time I have to change Kaitlins clothes is when so poops alot and I dont catch it right away and then it kinda oos out a bit (sorry I know gross). I hope someone has a better solution for you!

jdkjd replied: Some of my friends have tried their grocery brand diapers and have had luck. Also, maybe try bigger diapers and just make sure that they are pulled high enough so that the legs are sealed, then fold over the top for the cord.

Sheets idea: I have 3 sheets and three waterproof mattress pads on Bailey's bed (layered sheet, pad; sheet, pad; sheet, pad) so that if something gets on her sheets (spitup/pee) then all I have to do is strip one sheet and pad, and I have a fresh sheet underneath.

Then I just start over when I've gone through all of the sheets and don't have to remake the crib in the middle of the night.

maliksmommy replied: Have you tried Huggies nighttime? We haven't had any problems with Malik we use White Cloud or the Suzy Zoo diapers but I have heard that the night time specific ones seem to work pretty good.

Insanemomof3 replied: I tried the nighttime ones with Tristan and they never worked for him. What I did, was I bought the next size up and put those on him at night and never had a problem. People always told me not to do that because the diapers were too big, but hey, I found that it worked and never had leaks.

what a good Idea! thumb.gif

supermom replied: And, when you are putting the new diaper back on, make sure his penis is pointing DOWN - that can make a BIG difference....... it doesn't hurt them to just point it that way, then get the other side of the diaper strapped on. If it's pointing up, things tend to get soaked a LOT faster!

booey2 replied: Supermom said it best, make sure he is pointing south and I agree with using the next size up diaper. I found that both boys had to move up a size in diapers when they started to leak thru, the weights on them are only a guide and never worked for us. I also found Pampers to leak less.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Too true! Zach could fit in size 3 diapres (but just barely) so he's been in size 4 diapers for at least 2 months now.

I wish I would have known about pointing south a while ago... Nobody told me, and once I realized it.... diapers and clothes and crib were a heck of a lot dryer.

booey2 replied: I guess we were lucky on the south thing, the nurses told us when we took our lamaze courses 5 years ago now.

maliksmommy replied: Pointing South is definately a big difference. I am not sure who told us but I am glad they did. Every so often my husband will change his diaper and forget and Malik gets all wet. I feel so sorry for him sad.gif

momofajcl replied: YuP! ITA w/the pointing it South! ROFL! I had the same problem with soaking stuff w/ds#1 until I learned that trick from a friend. After that, we didn't have as much laundry to do! LOL!

Kaitlin'smom replied: wow, that never occured to me, well having a girl and all I guess it would not. Well if I ever decide to have another (most likly not) and we had a boy I hope I remember that!

supermom replied:
If you don't remember it right away, I bet you do after the first few times - laugh.gif

+Zemirah+ replied:
I just want to say that this is a SUPER smart idea, Jenn! thumb.gif

jdkjd replied:
I saw it on the FlyLady site when I was pregnant and thought it sounded like a good idea. Has been an incredible help-especially with Bailey spitting up pretty regularly at night. smile.gif

MommyToAshley replied: thumb.gif I have to say it too, that is a great idea...thanks for sharing!

MomofTay&Sam replied: The only time Sam leaks is when he needs to go up to the next size than no leaks for a good while. We use the babiesrus diapers and they are awesome! We buy a case at a time and they are roughly 14cents apiece. LOL

MommyToAshley replied: I always have to buy a size bigger and fold them down because the correct size cuts Ashley's chunky thighs. smile.gif

I like the CVS brand better than Pampers or Huggies and they are cheaper. She never had a leak problem until she learned how to take her diaper off even with her clothes on!!!

CantWait replied: pointing south, I never knew, guess that's something I'll know for this little boy. Although I didn't have many problems unless I used Huggies, especially if he had a runny poop. puke.gif

I found that Pampers worked really well.

kit_kats_mom replied: Our grocery store (Publix) sells diaper extenders...basically big maxi pads that you stick in the diaper for night time use. Katherine has only leaked once in 8 mos so I've never had to try them but I've had another mommy swear by them.

I suppose if your grocery chain doesnt sell them, you could just use a big overnight maxi pad... rolling_smile.gif

We won't tell anyone. blush.gif

P.S. Jenn, that is a great idea with the sheets!

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Zem, what a lovely avatar, and signature!!

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Hilarious!! I don,t think I would have ever thought of that... rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif
