Dh got laid off today

My2Beauties wrote: He found out this morning that he is furlowed. Furlow means that he is laid-off but he'll get a call back. We just dont' know how long it will be, could be a week, could be a month, could be 5 months we just don't know I'm ver worried right now, horrible time for him to get laid off. He is very handy so he can do plenty of side work, but he has to find the side work. Say a prayer and/or cross fingers for us. I hope he gets called back sooner rather than later. The railroad unemployment is even lower than the state unemployment, I don't know why but he gets about 1/4 of what he would normally bring home with unemployment

I am hoping the new year brings my DH a new job, and hope it does the same for your DH (well not new but a call back)

Take advantage of any state aid available such as heat assistance utility assisantance that should really help.

Definitely start taking advantage of any assistance you can get. This is a horrible time for people to be laying off.

What a horrible thing to be doing right before Christmas!

ma2many replied: You mentioned that he has multiple skills, I'd suggest he place an ad on craigslist. We have a section for ppl who are good with computers, repairs, etc place ads for their services all the time. It would be in the labor section. Other than that, I wish you well and hope he gets called soon. Who knows, he may start looking and find a more secure job.

My2Beauties replied: Thanks everyone. He got a call last night about a roof that was leaking, so he is looking at that today, that's a bit of extra money. He knows a lot of people that own construction, home repair businesses and I'm sure he can get work. His job is usually pretty stable, so he should be back soon. The only reason they are laying off is because of Ford's extended shut down. We saw it coming, but it sucks when it's a reality. Hopefully he'll get called back when Ford goes back, mid - January.

booey2 replied: Sorry to read this Leeanne, will says some extra prayers that the economy picks up for you and all my friends south of the border. It is hitting us up here in the north but not as bad as long as you don't work in the auto sector or are directly dependent on it.
