Delima About our Flight Home
Kirstenmumof3 wrote: As happy as I am that we will find out tomorrow when we get to leave Toronto. I just phone the airport and it's going to cost us $75.00 for each additional piece of luggage or box that we check in. We need to bring Spencers medical supplies home and it's going to be 2 extra boxes ontop of the 4 pieces of luggage. We're allowed to check in 2 pieces each. I'm in shock! The boxes are to big to take on as carry on luggage and I can't risk leaving them behind, last year Thunder Bay didn't get his supplies to us until we were home 2 days. Last year it was just one box, but this year he is on an IV medication once a day, so there's all the tubing, syringes, gauze and tape and a bunch of other stuff! You would think they would make an acception for medical supplies. I'm also not comfortable putting these boxes through as checked baggage, anything can happen to them. Why can't things be easy!
sparkys2boys replied: Kirsten if he need them is there mo way that anyone can cut you a break because it is medical equipment?? Maybe call the airport and do some inquiring about this?? Hope it all works out for you, im just so glad that you all are going home!!!
amymom replied: What if you shipped some of the luggage seperately? Would that help if the items in the luggage or if the luggage itself were shipped, like UPS or something. I am not sure of what you could do in Canada??
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I mentioned about 10 times that they were medical supplies and they weren't giving me any other option. I've called my DH and I'm waiting to hear back from him about all of this!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: It's funny you mentioned that, I've been sitting here thinking about what we could mail home!
cameragirl21 replied: i would call the airlines, ask to speak to some bigwig (not whoever answers the phone) and explain that your son is ill and you traveled to Toronto for necessary medical treatments and that the extra luggage is medical supplies and that there is no reason you should pay for them. i wouldn't back down on this, they can't preclude you from bringing on luggage that is meant to save a life.
lisar replied: I 100% agree. I think if you call them and tell them your situation they CAN make an exception for you with that luggage. What ariline are you using?
PrairieMom replied: Is there a health care agency in your home town that can supply you with IV pumps and all that so you don't have to fly it all back with you?
Kirstenmumof3 replied: We're using WestJet, my DH said to wait until tomorrow and then we will decide what we need to do.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: There is, but from our experience last year Spencers supplies didn't arrive until 2 days after we arrived. The pump did arrive, but not everything else. The nurse in Toronto advised us to take as many of the supplies home as we could.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I'm not very good with confrontations. I think if it comes down to it I'll leave that part up to my DH or the Canadian Cancer Society who will be providing our plane tickets.
Calimama replied: That is unreasonable. I hope they make an exception for you!!
cameragirl21 replied: well, it should come as a surprise to no one that i am quite good with confrontations. Kirsten, i have no doubt that you, your DH, and the Cancer Society will be in a position to handle this but if you ever have such a problem and need help, feel free to pm me and i'd be glad to make any necessary phone calls, emails, etc, for you. good luck with this and keep us posted, glad you and Spencer finally going home.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Thanks Jennifer! I appreciate the offer!
b&bsmom replied: I was just checking in on the boards, to see how Spencer was doing, I am so glad to hear you are going home!!!! I agree, try talking to someone higher up, if all else fails, see what you can send home that you wouldn't mind doing that with. It may be cheaper that way. I know I saw on some talk show they had a business that comes packs up your luggage for you and ships it where you want it to go so you don't have to take it with and all that. I think it was like $200, but they come to your house and ship it all, maybe something to look into, the less you have to take to the airport the better. Good luck. So happy you are going home. I pray for you guys everyday!!
kimberley replied: PM me. my dad works at the airport.
holley79 replied: Is there anyway to get the medical supplies when you get home this way it doesn't have to travel? I can't believe they are givng you so much grief about your med equip being flown home. That' just crazy.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: We will get some supplies when we get home, but it will take a few days to be delivered. This is why the nurse here at the hospital is encouraging us to take as much as we can home now. She suggested the same thing last year and thank god she did. We didn't have anything for Spencer. They delivered the IV poll and pump and the night hydration, but that was it.
A&A'smommy replied: Good luck I hope it gets worked out quickly!!
BAC'sMom replied: Good luck
