Decor question..... - in my living room

Hillbilly Housewife wrote: So i took my tree down, and rearranged my furniture yesterday. Because I put the couch by the window and the lazyboy by the wall, it looks empty where the tree used to be, because i switched the small table and the shelf with movies places...

anyways, it looks empty.

I'm considering moving my big ole antique trunk from out of the kids closet, and using it as an end table next to my couch... would that look dumb?

I have a light wood entertainment unit (covered pressed wood, from ikea rolleyes.gif ), a black couch, a dark green lazyboy. The floors look like hardwood, all the walls are white except for one wall which is almost lime green. The little table I have is light wood as well, it's in the corner by a tall lamp, and has some little knickknacks on it, like a vase filled with rocks and fake tall leaves, a few candles and some glass "art".

I could take a picture, if it would help...

but I plan on moving the little table to the middle of the room, as a coffee table (i actually have the bigger version of it, the coffee table, but it's in the office, cuz it's TOO big. laugh.gif ) and put the old trunk next to the couch. I have some leftover fabric from the "curtains" I made - so I could drape that on it - and put back the stuff that originally was on the table. The old truck is royal blue, faded and chipped, with some faded brass corners and latch.

Does that make sense? Would that look stupid?

Hillbilly Housewife replied: here's the pics... before pics, no after...yet.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: and please excuse the clutter.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I love the lime green! I am short on time (took a break from cleaning) but I skimmed your post, and got the idea. I think that will look great! I say go for it!! thumb.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: it is different, eh?
i'm debating whether to paint the other walls that same green... rolleyes.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: what color is the trunk? it sounds liek it would go great but I need pics smile.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I tried it out... here's a pic with the trunk in place

Hillbilly Housewife replied: you can't really saee it in the picture, but it's like a royal blue, with brass edges

Kaitlin'smom replied: I actually like it, its a good contrast against that wall.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I think so too. Maybe i'll complement it by getting some blue cushions or something. happy.gif

So - should I paint the other walls that green too?

Kaitlin'smom replied:
actauly I say no I like the look of the accent wall

Hillbilly Housewife replied: That's what DH said.

Should I paint the other walls some other color? Like a light taupe color? or beige?

C&K*s Mommie replied: I would say no. IMO. The contrast of the lime green complements the white walls. It looks great the way it is.

fashionmumofboys replied: I agree with the other ladies. Leave the white walls and the table looks great. I really like it.

WTG Rocky.

Great job. thumb.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: oops - thanks ladies - i'll leave the other walls white.... i guess... rolling_smile.gif

luvmykids replied: I love it, that green is great. If the other walls were another (or same) color I don't thinn you'd get that pop.

BAC'sMom replied: Looks great thumb.gif

Did you get your house clean? lol biggrin.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: i got a good chunk of time in... i cleaned more when dh got home around 3:30.

But of course... since dh was home... then he went to get the kids... we're practically back at square 1. rolleyes.gif

BAC'sMom replied: I know how you feel! wacko.gif
I can clean up a room, walk out and 30 minutes it's a mess again. ohmy.gif But I am learning to just pick my battles, afterall what do I expect with a 9, almost 6 and 22 month old. blahblah.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
i'd expect a little help from the 9 and 6 year old.... rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif just kidding! rolling_smile.gif

CosmetologyMommy replied:

scattytart replied: hi i think the room looks great,

at the mo my husband is in carge of the house as im in hospital, OH MY GOD, im dreading going home to see what mess he has left it in, biggrin.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
That's cuz i'd just cleaned it - if i took a pic now, you'd see laundry, dishes, toys... lol

scattytart replied: just think one day your children will be able to help........ make more mess lol rolling_smile.gif

what would we do without children no matter what age they are the house always seems a mess, from the very day they are born.
