Deceptively delicious - I tried it.

PrairieMom wrote: I tried the mac and cheese with the cauliflower in it, and you really really can't taste it at all. It was pretty good, I used wacky mac instead of regular macaroni, and I think I won't do that next time, but I will definately do it again.

I am making pancakes with sweet potato tomorrow for breakfast. sh.gif

amynicole21 replied: Ooooh, I so can't wait to get my food processor I asked Santa for wink.gif tongue.gif

PrairieMom replied:
I used my blender this afternoon and it worked really well. I did 2 heads of cauliflower and it gave me about 4 1/2 C of puree and it ALL fit in my blender! I had to do a bit at a time tho.

I also did 5 sweet potatoes and got about 4 1/2 puree and they all fit in my blender too. thumb.gif

ediep replied: I ordered this book from amazon, but it was backordered, so I am still waiting for it

But I have been putting pureed butternut squash and carrots in Jason and Emma's mac and cheese and they love it!!

I am looking forward to getting the greens into Jason!

PrairieMom replied: I tried the pancakes this morning and they were really good. I was just smiling inside as Ben and Al were shoving them in. wink.gif DH said he could taste the sweet potato, but I couldn't . I think he just knew it was in there so he thought he tasted it. rolleyes.gif

What book? I must have missed something, and with 3 incredibly picky eaters, would love to know!

PrairieMom replied:
Its a cookbook called "deceptively delicious" by Jessica seinfield (Jerry's wife) where you make vegetable puree's and "sneak" them into your food. Last night I made the mac and cheese and it had pureed cauliflower in it, and there were sweet potaotes in my pancakes. Tonight I am making the coconut chicken kebabs and I think that has cauliflower in it too. Its supposed to help get veggi's into your children that refuse to eat them.

Here is a link to Oprah, she was on there a few weeks ago.

jcc64 replied: I used my blender too, Tara, and pureed a whole head of broccoli in there (it's a pretty cheap blender, too). I'm not a big food processor fan- they're such a pain in the behind to clean.
Hey Amy, before buying a brand new food processor, why not post on Freecycle- people are always looking to get rid of those kinds of things. My gf got a brand new, never used one that way.

maestra replied: I'm going to have to try this book! sh.gif

PrairieMom replied:
good luck finding it. Its sold out everywhere, and on back order at Amazon. rolleyes.gif I found the last copy at sams club and the cover was 1/2 ripped off. dry.gif There are sample recipes on Oprah's website. Its been working great for us so far!

Jamison'smama replied: I'm sure her recipes are delicious but I wonder if you can just sneak these veggies into your own tried and true recipes with the same result.

luvmykids replied:
I've wondered that too....would the cauliflower in the mac n cheese replace milk? I think I'd have to experiment and don't always have the time to, I think thats the only reason the cookbook would come in handy.

PrairieMom replied:
I wondered that too. I plan on trying the cauliflower in plain old easy mac soon, I will let you know.

I tried the coconut chicken kebabs tonight and they were SUPER YUMMY! they need a dipping sauce tho, and I can't put my finger on what kind... maybe sweet and sour.

my2girls replied: I was at Costco yesterday and they had a lot of the books there ( I live in a big city too so maybe thats why they have a lot in stock).

They were priced at $ 13.87.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I went to a cooking technique class at Williams Sonoma yesterday and they had A LOT of copies of the book on their register. I'm sure it's the same price everywhere.

Jeanne, don't you have a dishwasher? I just made pureed cauliflower last night for DH and I, we love it, and I just throw all my Quisinart parts in the dishwasher. Easy peasy! wink.gif

I don't think the purees would replace milk. I think you make the mac 'n' cheese the exact same way and just mix in the purees afterward, otherwise I think the powdered cheese would stay a bit dry. I do add a little milk to my quisinart though when making purees, butter too. Makes it nice and smooth. I use soy milk for DH.

luvmykids replied:
I meant in "real" mac n cheese laugh.gif I hate the powdered stuff...I can't even bring myself to call it cheese cool.gif
