Dateline tonight - Deb Lafaye (sp) interview

mom2my2cuties wrote: Tonight Matt Lauer is doing an exclusive interview with the teacher who was "too pretty" to go to jail. They were airing bits of it on the radio this morning and it was just disgusting. He was all polite and sweet and things. rolleyes.gif They wouldnt be doing the same if it were a male teacher and female student that is for sure...And what about a society who thinks that sleeping with this teacher was a "dream come true for this boy"

luvbug00 replied: i think the whole "drem come true" thing is very true what tween/teen doesn't dream abouut bedding his pretty teacher? ( and vice versa) there were a coupple girls bedding our school staff. no one did anyting about it. Thease men were handsome, very handsome. I saw a bit of this. mary kay laturnu was fairly pretty as well i thought. i dunno It's all so wierd.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: It makes me ill. dry.gif

holley79 replied: DH is no better then society. He said if they had had teachers that "hot" when he was in school he would have been more then willing. huh.gif Freaks. emlaugh.gif I think there are some serious issues there.

Anyways, I do remember plenty of girls sleeping with teachers when we were in HS. I'm not saying it's right but bottom line it's nothing new.

mom2my2cuties replied: Perhaps kids dream of sleeping with thier teachers - but what kind of a society makes that OK when it happens? Who cares if the kid wanted to our not, the teacher should have put two brain cells together and realized, this isn't right.

Teachers are put in a place of authority over our children and when they sleep with those children they viloate so much more than that authority.

ETA - and it shouldn't matter if the CHILD wanted it or not as she stated in the interview...It was wrong. And the teacher knew this going in. The guys on the radio were all going on and on about the pictures. Part of me wonders if she isnt enjoying and craving the attention now. Something else I wonder about, would he have used the same tone with Mary Kay Laturnu, John Karr, etc.

holley79 replied:
I totally agree. What I don't agree with is it getting so much media coverage. I wouldn't doubt this is why some of these happens, "If I do this then it'll get me on TV."

luvbug00 replied: she said she never thought about any reprocussions. ( obviously) I just don't see the actraction really. I look at a 14 year old and see a baby..ewwww. I just don't see how they can think of thease children as adults.

mckayleesmom replied: Granted.....it might be the childs fantasy, but that is just it...they are children. It is the teachers job as and educator and an adult to not cross that boundary. These teachers do nothing in my opinion, but take advantage of the hormones that rage in teenagers at this age.

I think both men and woman should do some time and have to register as sex offenders....and not be allowed to teach anymore. Child molestation should not be gender bias.

TheOaf66 replied: well I certainly do not approve of it either way but why is it that the male teachers sleeping with a female student serve jail time etc, while the females teachers w/ male students get probation, house arrest etc. I did a little research and there have been several cases about this and only one went to prison for 6 months and that was because it was more than one student and she openly admitted it to people. I don't think it is right either way but I think the punishment should be equal weather it is male or female teachers.

mom2my2cuties replied:
you are 100% correct....It still shocks me that a lot of people don't consider the fact that some women can be and are sex offenders.

That is something else that bothers me, the punishment is no where NEAR equal

redchief replied:
The attraction? She's a pedophile. They come in all flavors. So in this interview we'll get to see how "normal" a female pedophile is... This ahould be creepy.

luvmykids replied: Yup, it's a typical fantasy for lots of teens but like Nadia said, I see a kid as a kid. And I don't think women should get off with less punishment than men, I agree that if it was a man there would be a much bigger outrage.

Boo&BugsMom replied: I saw a small segment on this and I was appauled! TOO PRETTY to go to jail? Please! So if she would have been ugly she would have went? Unbelievable! rolleyes.gif Now she's sitting in her comfy home doing whatever she wants. Ridiculous! She's a moron!

mom2my2cuties replied:

I told my husband he is gonna have to DVR it for me, since we will be at church, but on the chance he forgets if any of you watch it...let me know if it's as bad as it sounded on the radio this morning.

luvbug00 replied: i'm watching it for shure!

ashtonsmama replied: puke.gif

I JUST watched that on MSN.

Makes me sick. She sounds like she has no remorse whatsoever, and she didn't say anything remotely apologetic.
growl.gif

Maddy'sMommy replied: I saw it last night. It seems all she does is blame it on her bi-polar.... which I know is a real disease, my mom has had it sincei was 8....but there is only so much you can blame on your sickness. HOw could she have never thought it was wrong???? ohmy.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: I did not see the whole thing, I was disgusted at how she blamed her actions on things that happened in her past. Like her father being emotionally unavailable, her sister dieing young, the rape. We all have had ghosts in our closet, I do not make my apology for what I do now on something that happened 10yrs ago. I own up to my wrongdoing.

From what I did see she did not seem to make much of an apology at all. Only blame.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Totally agree!

I know bi-polar is a real disorder, I have known several people with it. However, even when you have bi-polar you still KNOW right from wrong! She acted like she didn't even know. Plays up the stereotypical dumb blonde routine all too well (no offense to blondes...I am one myself wink.gif ...well, half blonde that is). I don't feel sorry for her one bit!

luvbug00 replied: Saw it and it made me sick. she had no remorse and worse, Knows she is pretty. ( even though I thought she wasn't to me she had WAY too much make up on) anyway Yeah that was wrong she didn't get punished. wasn't Mary kay also bipolor??

mom2my2cuties replied: Did you guys hear what she said about the rape incidnet though? It was with her boyfriend in a school bathroom (and I am not saying boyfriends/husbands cant rape a person) and a teacher walked in - and let THEM (not him - but them) off the hook because the teacher didn't know what was happening.

Now personally, I think the majority of women, someone walks in on a rape and it can be said, I think they would flat out say "He was trying to rape me"

Kaitlin'smom replied: I watched it and she was deffinaly not diganosed properly before when she was talking about how her moods and such were I siad she is not depressed she is bi-polar. LIke they siad if not treated properly it can become worse. Now YES she did something wrong, she admitted to that said she was sorry and she thought she should serve time in jail, but her mental stability was NOT there when this happend. In a way I feel sorry for her and mad that the doctors did not treat her right in the first place and all this happend. Plus we will never really know what happend with those two, he could have been more agressive than we all know or think, YES she was the adult and shoudl have stopped it but could she? She had been raped before and he was 6ft she is 5'7". It just my opion she was WRONG in what she did however did she really know what was was going on? YES she commited a sex offence but I truly dont believe she is a pedofile. Its sad, and a bit sick that it happend but we will never know all the facts.

luvbug00 replied:

I really didn't want to go here today but that statement for me is just soo wrong. I'm sorry but as a person violated by sexual assult I can tell you my most trusted friend could have walked in and I wouldn't have said anything. There are NO words to discribe the Fear, disbelief of what is happening , it's very sur real ( at leat for me it was) Then comes the shock. I wouldn't have said a thing either.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I also believe that the fear of being nearly raped, or raped would have most people seized up and unsure of what to do next. Your mind is likely spinning, and at that time the words "I was raped" may not surface immediately. Taking a shower to come clean of the disgust growl.gif that has been laid on the woman may be the next thought.

C&K*s Mommie replied: But blaming what you do in the present on being raped in the past is no defense, IMO. mad.gif

mom2my2cuties replied:
I am sorry for what you went through. I have never been through anything like that and that statement was made out of a thought of "this is what I think I would do" type of situation. However, I do realize that when you are that scared you aren't able to think clearly.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: First of all the last time I thought a 14 year old boy was a hottie I was about 10! She is a child-molestor that is all there is to it! This bi-polar, I was raped , my daddy wasn't there for me crap blahblah.gif Is just that- C R A P! We as a society have begun to condone horrendus actions (think Andrea Yates) on a dis-order that ,while real and devistating does not give you the right to rape a child....I don't care if it was his fantasy or not....he was not of legal age to decide that. I know it is not something that many people wish to think about or acknowledge but childmolestation is not always a painful or a violent act-we all know that stimulation does not hurt and most of these @##%&^*^$ that prey on many children do so by gaining their trust and the acts progressively become more violent and sick. It saddens me to see that more and more of these 'poor depressed woman' who 'just wanted someone to love them' get off with less than slaps on the wrist-CBS showed clips of Mary Kay Latourno's wedding for petes sake! It wasn't a love story-it was the case of a child who thought he learned love in the midst of abuse sad.gif If a 24 year old man was found giving oral sex or having anykind of sex with a 13-14 year old girl we would be on here bashing him Bi-polar or not....I know it was not a violent act so that in some way seems to excuse it...My DH said the same things Holley did-it is everyboys fantasy, boys are different... blahblah.gif But as the best friend of a survivor of molestation that was not violent or painful I promise you-the scars are still very real.... soapbox.gif I will step down now..... blush.gif

Maddy'sMommy replied:
I agree with you... I would not of said a thing as well. When you are in that situation you may feel partly at fault or dirty... and not want to tell anyone. It is different for everyone I am sure... but me... I am a quiet, private person and I would have keep it to myself as well.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I couldn't have said it better myself. thumb.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Preach it sista!!! thumb.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I watched it and was completely disgusted. It makes me sick that she only gets house arrest, although I would have done the same as that 14 year old's mother and not had my son testify. The media would have eaten him up! I don't care if he consented, he is a child and she is an adult. Fantasy or not, that's not the issue! And I hate that she sorta blamed him for it as if he "wanted it"! I feel awful that women are not treated equally to men when it comes to situations like this. Gender has no boundaries when it comes to rape or molestation. mad.gif A person should go to jail regardless!! I wish they would lock her up. Although bipolar disorder is a reality, I find it hard to believe she was "in a fog" and didn't know what she was doing. I hope she gets treatment, but I wish it were in jail! It seems like quite a luxury to be able to have house arrest at a nice home with a pool outside, etc. dry.gif
