DHA supplement with Pregnancy?

jacobsmama wrote: I know you are all thinking, I should know this LOL and I do know what we tell our patients and recommend but I want some Mothers advice on what YOU did. smile.gif

I am taking my Prenatal vitamin and it has DHA in it but a small dose. So I am taking a DHA supplement now. I know it is good for Eye and brain development.

Did you take DHA?? Or did you just take your vitamin?

Thanks for all your mommy advice! emlaugh.gif

luvmykids replied: I just took my regular prenatals.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I just took my regular prenatals and hoped they would stay down. I would say maybe 30 times total in all 3 pregnancies

mckayleesmom replied: I couldn't take prenatals at all...made me sicker then a dog. I just took a couple flinstones everyday. I tried all kinds of prenatals and they were horrible on my system.

boyohboyohboy replied: I didnt take the additional dha supplement

jacobsmama replied: Thanks girls! I have a hard time keeping anything down!! LOL let alone the vitamin hahaha or the supplement. emlaugh.gif

my2monkeyboys replied: I just took my prescription prenatal with Will and an OTC prenatal with Waylon.
I had never really heard of a DHA supplement for mothers until about 3 months ago.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: They (supplements of DHA/ARA) are fairly new from everything I have read and I have also read a few things about overdosing so I have stayed away from them so far...I also heard soem freaky stuff about iron the other day so that even has me a bit nervous! wacko.gif

A&A'smommy replied: I think my prenatals with Autumn had dha in them but I can't really remember

jacobsmama replied: With Jacob I was soooo sick it was very hard to keep my vitamins down at all. When I had him I lost alot of blood and almost had to get a blood transfusion because my iron was so low. So I am really trying to keep them down this time and do all I can to prevent that in the long run. blush.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied:
Thats what happened to me too...I went into BAD shock after Tay's delivery but it was also my 2nd surgery in a month and 1/2 so I am hoping this time that we can head that off with a good iron level all pregnancy...I am anxious to find out if my iron has come up yet since I am now past 2 cycles missed-we have not been able to get my iron up since I had her so I am praying that this constant anemia will be headed off for my pregnancy with this baby! thumb.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: They didn't have them when I was PG with Tanner, so no I didn't take them. With Aiden they had just came out with them recently. I got samples at the doctor's office, so I used those, but I never went out and got any more so I mostly just used my regular prenatal vitamin. My vitamins I got at Walmart, never through the doctor because they made me ill. They were much smaller, as I hate taking vitamins the size of horse pills as well. They were pink, and in a large pink container.

holley79 replied: I took a prescribed vitamin which had a higher does of DHA in it.
