DH is taking Daniel to the doc - still sick
DansMom wrote: DH just called me at work in tears, saying he was on his way to the pediatrician... Daniel has gotten sicker, not better, since I posted about his barfing while coughing problem 3 days ago. The next night he got a fever that broke at about 4 am. Then yesterday he was okay during the day, but in the evening he was absolutely miserable and clingy, trying to sleep but unable to, until I gave him Tylenol. I can feel molars poking through, but he also has this awful phlegmy cough. We both decided that if he didn't seem to be on the upswing today, we'd take him in just to be safe. I hyperventilated when I realized DH was crying while telling me he was taking him to the doctor, until he reassured me that he's just stressed with taking care of a sick kid and feeling empathetic with Daniel not feeling well---there hasn't been a dramatic turn for the worse or anything, just not a turn for the better that we hoped for. I'll let you guys know tomorrow how it goes. I might leave work to meet DH at the doc---I can't stand not being there.
DansMom replied: DH called before I even got my things together to leave. I guess he got in to see the ped very quickly (we live very near the clinic to begin with). The doc says he'll be okay---no sign of ear infection or pneumonia. He didn't want to prescribe antibiotics and thinks he's going to improve in a day or two. He did recommend children's Tylenol or Motrin for when he seems particularly miserable, and that did help yesterday. So I guess we're doing everything right. It feels better to have the ped check him and say that we're doing okay! He's still 20 pounds though my new mantra is Grow... Grow.... Grow...

jcc64 replied: Doesn't one day of sickness seem like an endless year?! I'm normally pretty calm when the kids are sick, but when it starts to drag on, I can't quite keep the nervousness at bay, even though I know kids and sickness go hand and hand in the winter. I think it was a good move taking him to the dr, now you can rest a little easier and just wait out the virus. Hope he feels better soon. And if it makes you feel any better, Corey STILL hasn't hit 20lbs yet!
paradisemommy replied: poor daniel! hope he's feeling better soon. at least the doctor was good about getting you guys in and let you know it would get better in a couple day..i'm the worst when he gets sick until i get confirmation from the doctor that i'm doing all i can. you definitely feel so helpless. your dh is so cute..just reading your story of him just made me wanna cry too what a compassionate guy!
DansMom replied: Well, I wasn't at the visit, so I'm not sure exactly what he said about the congestion, except that the barfing from coughing thing is normal, and that he's seeing a lot of kids right now with what seems like the same virus. He said it would be good for Daniel to walk around outside today if the weather is decent and he seems up to it---he thinks fresh air and light activity will get things moving in his chest, as long as he doesn't get overextended. The humidifier and the medicated lotion on his chest have both helped get him breathing/sleeping comfortably, although the chest congestion hasn't improved noticeably.
He's still coughing this morning, slept fairly restlessly and was still asleep when I left for work. But he was able to nurse well several times overnight, and he drank a lot of fluids last night in addition to having a good dinner, so I'm feeling fairly secure that he's on the mend. The pediatrician said he would be in the office Friday and Saturday, in case we think things aren't improving by then.
I hope Kari is feeling better today! It's rough. It's almost easier to be at work---poor DH has all the stress of making sure he eats and pushing fluids.
Thanks to everyone for your get well vibes and empathy.
