DD is horribly sick - don't know what to do

Teesa®© wrote: A week ago, DD - who is 8 - started complaining of headaches. I gave her Tylenol Pain and Fever meds. It wasn't helping, and a few days after her first complaint, I heard her sniffling and she said her right eye hurts. Sent DH for some sinus meds because I figured it was a sinus blockage, not *just* a headache.

Now, she's complaining of her right ear bubbling and the right side of her jaw aches. She really hasn't eaten or drank anything in 2 days because of her jaw. I've tried foods that she doesn't need to chew - soups, oatmeal, bread porridge - but she barely eats it.

This morning, she was sort of crying about her ear, so I put peroxide in it and a rather large chunk of wax floated to the top. I cleaned her ear as best I could. She said it felt a little better.

Am I looking at an ear infection? Will this affect her jaw? Why is it all on the right side?

She's going to the doctor's later this afternoon, I'm hoping someone here has some idea's or suggestions that I could put to or ask the doctor. And if anyone has thoughts on what I could do until the app't so I can make her feel even a little better, I'll love you for it!! wub.gif

sparkys2boys replied: YUp, sounds like an ear infection to me. And yes it can make her jaw and neck sore. This happended to Logan when he was 7, he ended up in the hospital until the infection broke it was that bad. I would not leave it any longer and take her to the doctor... hug.gif hug.gif hope she's feeling better soon!

booey2 replied: Totally agree with Sherri, sounds like a nasty ear infection. We would use warmed oil, babyoil or mineral oil, (put a small amount in a medicine dropper, warmed using hot tap water only,) let water run over the dropper for about 30 seconds, test on your inside forearm to make sure it is not too hot, then drop some in the ear that hurt and place warm cloth over the ear while she is lying down. Her hurting ear should be facing the ceiling. A warmed up magic bag will also help get rid of some of the pain.

Definitely get her to the doc's as soon as you can. I understand your doctor,( lack of there of doctor) plight in where you are. My mom is sick and can't get in til Monday. She has been sick for 2 weeks now.

Hugs, hopes she feels better soon.

grapfruit replied: My Soon to be DH gets ear infections like that. His jaw will hurt so bad he can't even open his mouth and his ear never hurts.

It is an ear infection, we've got Amoxil to clear it up.

We couldn't get a soon enough app't with our doctor so went to the clinic but it was closing so we couldn't get in there. Took her to the ER and we were in, seen and out within an hour!! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif Poor thing had to endure a doctor with REALLY shaky hands, so that hurt her, but she's a trooper.

We stopped at Micky D's and got her a milkshake, which she wanted, but didn't really drink much of. I'm going to keep her up a little late tonight so she can get two doses of meds in her. Hopefully she'll be feeling better by tomorrow and gets more sleep tonight. She barely slept last night and when she did, it sure wasn't restful.

Picked her up some red hair dye as a treat while waiting for her RX, we did her hair last year once and she looks totally amazing as a redhead. It'll be much easier to do since I chopped her hair last week. It was an inch shy of her butt and I cut off about a foot.

I'll post up pix if anyone wants to see it when I'm done. I took before and after pix of her hair cutting, I durned near cried while doing it blush.gif

:.Mrs_Mommy.: replied: Those darn ear infections. I'm so glad you got it figured out. We have to be extra careful in our house, Aaron has had more than one ear infection that has made his eardrum rupture and bleed so if he says his ear hurts bad or if he is acting weird we do everything we can to stop the pain and get him into the dr.

Just a lil FYI...

I get a sandwich bag and a washcloth and a thin towel to make a hot pack for Aaron's ears. Wet the washcloth with very, very hot water and put in the bag with a little bit of water. Seal the sandwich bag trying to keep all/most air out and water in. Then wrap in the thin towel and put on ear that hurts. These seem to work for Aaron.

Teesa®© replied: Thanks, I'll give that a try!

I was hoping to have her stay up a little later to give her a second dose of meds, but she's lying on the couch now trying to sleep. I'm gonna make her that compress and when it's later and time to carry her to bed, I'll give her meds then.

booey2 replied: Glad you were able to be seen so fast at the ER. I know how notoriously slow they can be down there. Hope she feels better soon. hug.gif

Teesa®© replied: Oh, I know! The last time we were at the ER was 4 years ago and DS had a fever of 105.3. We went in at 4.30pm, the triage wouldn't see him until 10.00pm and the doc didn't get to him till 2.30am!!! I'd run in with a limp babe [he was 2 then] and I was screaming and crying. growl.gif growl.gif

What worried me the most was DD's lack of eating. She laid on the couch last night and I tried the compress on her ear, but she didn't like it and kept taking it off. I gave her a Motrin around 9.30 and DH put her to bed when he went at 10. She came back down at about 11 and said she was hungry. I was so happy!! I made her a few things and she sat up with me for a while, giggling and laughing. I was so glad to have my Giggle Grrl back biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

She's all perky this morning so far love2.gif

booey2 replied: Thanks for the update, happy she is back to her happy self. thumb.gif
