Crystal, Jen and Karen - Camera Question

My2Beauties wrote: Ok so Karen and Crystal I know you guys just got new cameras and Jen I know you're an expert. Sometime this year, not sure exactly when, but I want to get a new camera. Mine is about 4 years old now. I'm definitely not a photographer so I don't need something extremely fancy but I want something nice, what do you guys suggest? Also, Crystal you were saying post processing, what did you mean by that? Like photoshop or something? just curious, I'm so oblivious to anything that has to do with photography and photo shop etc. I have never edited a pic other than it's size and to crop it a little bit lol!

coasterqueen replied: I'm not an expert at all, lol. I had a Kodak digital camera before and still love it. The kids beat the tar out of it - knocked off the door on the drive, lost my lense cap, scratched the lense a tiny bit, but otherwise I LOVE the camera. We got it when Megan was just a few months old, so it's a little over 3 years old now. I love that it takes video and pictures. I don't have the time or the amount of hands to carry/use a video camera plus a regular camera around. happy.gif The only complaint I have on it is it's a little slow at recovery time between pics and the zoom isn't as far as I would want. That is why Dh got me a Canon one for V-day. It has an awesome zoom and the recovery time is much better than my Kodak.

If you are wanting a camera that you can take picture after picture without recovery time you want an SLR. If you want a camera that can also take video you want a regular digital camera. What kind are you wanting?

My2Beauties replied:
I'm like you I want one that does video as well. My current one does, I have a Kodak but the quality of the video is very poor. I also don't like the lag time inbetween when I hit the button to take the pic and the time it actually takes the pic.

coasterqueen replied: Well I got this one from DH: Canon Powershot 10.0 Megapixel Digital Camera I haven't had it that long so I haven't had a lot of time with it, but what time I have had, I really like it. thumb.gif

moped replied: That is the same one I got Tom for Xmas - he really likes it! thumb.gif

cameragirl21 replied: depends on what you want, LeaAnn. Do you want a DSLR or something small that will fit in your pocket?

My2Beauties replied:
I do sort of want something small but that takes good pics, good video and has software included with it. Karen's is cute, but it's not super super small. Are there any smaller ones that do the same thing?

I know I wasn't asked but here is about the best point and shoot that you can get, Kodaks are terrible, Sony's are OK and pretty much everything else doesn't last very long.

Crystalina replied: Before this one I had a Kodak Z650 and I really like it. I still have it of course except for some reason my memory card won't snap in. It just springs back out. dry.gif

I also have a HP camera. I don't remember what type. It is a great little camera.

The Kodak Easyshare Z712 is one that I would have gotten if I would not have been able to sweet talk dh in my canon. It has great zoom on it. Here's a YouTube video review. Tell you all you need to know.

I hate the lag time in all those cameras though. When you have kids it really sucks. You can't tell them you want a do-over of them being cute. rolleyes.gif

The Z712 is also great because it has image stabilization. thumb.gif

cameragirl21 replied: an SLR will not take any video except for the 5d mark 2 which I'm seriously lusting over.
I'd go for a small canon camera.

luvmykids replied:
I have the Kodak Z712 Crystal mentioned. I really like it so far, you can do a lot with it from point and shoot with great zoom, to messing with settings a little if you decide you want to try things out.

I have noticed without brand new batteries there is some lag between pics, so I'd recommend the rechargeable ones. But otherwise, it's been great so far except that the shutter button isn't working all of the sudden growl.gif Kodak has a one year warranty though.

Crystalina replied:
Yes, when using any camera like that I would recommend rechargeable batteries. If not you just go through batteries WAY too quick and they will die just when you need them. dry.gif Even with rechargeable I would suggest getting some extras, that way you always have batteries ready. There's nothing worse then wanting to use your camera and having to wait for batteries. ohmy.gif

My2Beauties replied: Ok thank you you guys! I appreciate it.
