Cradle Cap

Have any of your babies have this?
I did some research and it states to wash his hair everyday. I think washing his hair everyday would probably dry it even more.
What do you guys think???
amynicole21 replied: I don't think you need to wash it every day - I agree that it might dry it out too much. I've been told to rub a bit of olive oil (or baby oil) into her scalp then scrape off the scales with a comb or your finger. Nora's get a bit crusty rather than just flaky. Ick!
msoulz replied: Mine is just now getting rid of it. I haven't done anything special as our doc said it is not necessary to do so. With the last one we did olive oil and then Neutrogena T-gel but I was deathly afraid of getting the shampoo in his eyes - but he smelled yummy until we washed him with the shampoo!
I guess what the doc said is it does not bother them so it doesn't need to be addressed as it will resolve itself. Now it has taken 5 months to do so, but it wasn't a really bad case anyway, just some in the eyebrows and right at her hair line.
msoulz replied: OOps, posted twice, sorry!
jem0622 replied: Massage a little baby oil in and then use a baby toothbrush or comb and work it out. It should correct itself in a short period of time.
You can give a bath and not use soap. I did that and sometimes still do for all of my kids because it is part of our nighttime ritual.
Bamamom replied: We used vasaline. Rub a little on the scalp just before the bath and let it sit a few minutes. Then shampoo out. This should loosen the scales. Then use a brush after the bath to help loosen them further. Tripp's case was gone in less than a week. HTH!
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wil had it pretty bad...I used baby oil and then scraped the scales off with a soft baby comb. I wouldn't wash everyday...they just come back that way IMO.
ashtonsmama replied: to what Rae and everyone else said, Ashton had it, not too bad, but noticeably, for about 3 weeks or so after birth...
Our Lil' Family replied: We did the same thing then never used the baby wash to wash his hair again. We never saw the cradle cap again. The pH they use for the tear free formula isn't right for their scalp. We use Dove shampoo for him.
Brias3 replied: I actually used a product called Cradle Cap, I believe the makers are Pure Baby. I found it at the local drugstore and it worked well. Of course, the oil suggested does a good job too.
NEWMOM05 replied: Her ped. recommended reg Selsun Blue. It worked so good. We use it every time she gets her hair washed. It works like a charm.
ilovemybaby replied: Cradle cap is caused by a build up of shampoo or soap. Abbys had it twice and I got rid of it after only doing the baby oil comb thing once. I put baby oil in her hair and then comb out all the flakes. Then I wash her hair. Then I rinse her hair with just plain warm water and make sure the shampoo is thoroughly washed out. Abbys hair gets washed every second or third day. But washing it every day won't cause cradle cap. It's got nothing to do with the skin being dry.
