Countertop color?
coasterqueen wrote: Ahhhh, I'm going crazy here trying to figure out colors for our kitchen.
Walls - sage green Countertops now are light creme color Floors now are a light creme color Cabinets - medium oak color
We are getting new porcelain ceramic flooring that is a light tan color.
What color countertops would you go with? Ryan really wants to go with porcelain ceramic countertops and I think I'd like it too if we picked out the right color. Our bar downstairs is tiled and I LOVE it. Now that they have grout out there guaranteed not to change color or stain we are thinking of this more. We are still looking at paperstone countertops as well.
Any ideas on color for countertop?
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: Oh, I LOVE sage green! That's my most favorite color. I'd go for a shade of green that's a bit lighter than your walls. I'm no interior designer though .
momofone replied: maybe a light gray color would be nice.
moped replied: I was thinkiing very dark color....
HuskerMom replied: I was thinking maybe a dark gray. Our cabinets are the same color and they go well with the dark gray countertops.
msoulz replied: OMG we have the same colors! My countertop is granite - it's basically black with some gray, green and splashes of iridescent blue in it. I wish I could remember the name of the color - but the dark does look really nice with the tan porcelain tile floor and medium cabinets!!
coasterqueen replied: Thanks ladies. I think I may go a bit darker than my floor, but I tihnk I'm going to go with more earth tones instead of grey, because the rest of my house in the earthy tones, including parts of my kitchen.
Now I have to pick out what I want to do to my counters QUICK as Dh is having the guy bid on it next week. AHHHHHH!
lovemy2 replied: Ahh yeah - I don't know about porcelain but we have off white regular plain old countertops - you know - the standard old kind- and the off white shows every stain, scratch, mess, etc. - its horrible - I can't wait to get something darker....but we have alot of countertop and want corian so....looks like we have to wait for the next president to make a mess of the economy and send us more money for that right now the savings account is more important....
coasterqueen replied: I know what you mean. I'd like to follow through with our design plans for our land, but it's going to take another big rebate check (10 rebate checks ) to do that one.
redchief replied: Maybe granite tiles instead of ceramic? I saw one that looked like it would fit in your kitchen scheme really nicely.

Just an off the wall idea.
Our Lil' Family replied: Although is sounds like you're decided, I kinda agree with Ed on the granite, or quartz. Those types of stone (I believe they are considered stone) will have more colors in them to blend well with everything. Where as ceramic or porcelain will only have a few colors in them. Does that make sense...I'm only working on my first cup of joe.
coasterqueen replied: What coor is that Ed? I like that one.
coasterqueen replied: No, that makes sense. Actually Ryan told me last night he's decided against tile and wants to go with granite or quartz. I think he changes his mind more than I do. I'm hoping to go visit a place at lunch today to look at colors.
jcc64 replied: Granite is infinitely more valuable in terms of resale- ceramic tile is a liability- alot of people don't like it. Pretty much everyone likes or wants granite- I'd go with that. I think darker granite makes the wood cabinets "pop"- but I'd stay away from grey. I think your instinct to stay with something earthier is a good one. The great thing about granite is you can find something that perfectly blends all the existing colors in your kitchen. I'd go with a neutral of some sort, with flecks of sage green and whatever tone your floor is. Have fun!
sparkys2boys replied: A little late chiming in on this one but I am going to add my two cents..lol I would try and go with a more neutral color as to the greens.. your walls will no doubt stay green forever and then the counter color will limnit what colors you will be able to use in the futur.. kwim. I work with colors all day with people picking paint etc and that is the one thing that can make a huge diffrence in what they can do. HTH some
coasterqueen replied: That makes perfect sense.
We actually picked out our color yesterday at lunch. We picked out Tropical Brown. It has browns, blacks, and some other lighter colors. I think it will look perfect. Although we went through all this trouble and Ryan is now thinking he'd rather do our patio right now and hold off on the counters until next year. At least we'll know exactly what we want and color for when we do it.
sparkys2boys replied: Oh awesome!! I am sure the browns etc will serve you much much better and they still go well with what you have now!!
coasterqueen replied: I think so, too. Mainly becasue I know I'll change the kitchen color some day like you said. The rest of my house is in the earth tones/terra cotta/browns, etc - so it will work well. The black will serve for the pieces of black furniture we have through out the house.
sparkys2boys replied: Yup I agree. You have no idea how frustrating it is to have people come in that have say blue counter top and want to hear me say that it's ok to have green walls Then they get mad about it..lol. Earth tones are really the way to go, leaves the door open for more color on the walls.
